The others follow Bryan as they travel back south in the arena.
INT. VALLEY-SOUTHEAST SECTION-NIGHT
Little do they know it, but they’re heading closer to a lodge.
VERONICA:
We need to find another safe place to hide.
BRYAN:
Don’t worry. I’m sure that flimsy old cabin isn’t the only thing inside this arena.
Veronica laughs.
But as soon as she does so, something appears behind her and she turns around immediately.
Surely enough, one of the wolves is there.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
Veronica! Come on-keep up.
However, when Bryan turns towards Veronica, he notices the wolf immediately. He watches in terror (for Veronica) as the wolf takes a step towards her. She steps back, but trips over a rock. And the wolf charges towards her, and so does the other wolf which was apparently hiding behind a thick tree.
The fight lasts for less than a minute:
Bryan and Jack (Curtis being injured causes him not to fight) whip out their knives and slash at the wolves until they retreat again. Bryan then surveys Veronica. There’s a huge gash on her left arm.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
Let me see your arm.
VERONICA:
No. I’m sure it’s fine.
BRYAN:
I said let me see.
Veronica holds out her arm reluctantly, and Bryan peers at it closely.
Skin has been ripped to the bone, but there’s no bone damage itself.
CURTIS:
JACK:
I don’t know why they’ve come back for us instead of telling their friends where we’re at.
BRYAN:
(Sighs)
They’re probably just getting tired of using the same strategy as before.
VERONICA:
(Winces with pain)
Yeah, he’s right. We keep heading in a different direction every time they go looking for us.
JACK:
So do we keep heading south?
BRYAN:
I think so, unless someone has a better idea.
They simply shrug at him, and Bryan makes his decision after watching the two wolves follow them everywhere they go.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
Alright. We keep heading south.
And so the group keeps on travelling south inside of the arena. The remaining wolves howl in the distance.
INT. VALLEY-SOUTH SECTION-NIGHT
The group keeps on progressing south.
INT. VALLEY-SOUTHWEST SECTION-NEAR LODGE-NIGHT
Bryan and the others are on the west side of the arena.
BRYAN:
I think I see something.
VERONICA:
Where?
BRYAN:
(Points to the lodge) Over there.
The lodge is about three-hundred-feet away from the group and looks to be twice as large as the cabin.
VERONICA:
I see it.
JACK:
Me too.
CURTIS:
(Greatly relieved)
Thank goodness. We’ll finally have a safe place to be in.
BRYAN:
Then let’s hurry. I don’t want to get eaten by those wolves.
Bryan peers behind himself nervously.
The two wolves are still following the group.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
What are we going to do about those wolves?
JACK:
I don’t know.
However, once Bryan and the others are within a-hundred-feet from the wide, two-story lodge, the wolves disappear behind them.
BRYAN:
Where did they go?
JACK:
Maybe they know we’re going to the lodge. And so, they’re going to tell their friends.
CURTISS:
Then do you think we should risk going inside? I mean, if all the wolves come, then we’ll get cornered and killed.
VERONICA:
(Says to Bryan)
Curtis has a good point. Do you think we should go to the lodge or head in a different direction?
BRYAN:
Of course we go into the lodge.
VERONICA:
But why?
BRYAN:
For many reasons. The most important being, that Curtis needs rest. And the lodge is a safe place to hide in while we stay in one location.
VERONICA:
Ok. Then let’s head into the lodge. Staying out here won’t help us at all.
Then Bryan and the others hurry towards the lodge.
EXT. VALLEY-LODGE-NIGHT
They enter the lodge through the front door. Bryan looks behind him.
There’s no wolf in sight.
INT. LODGE-NIGHT
Inside the lodge, Bryan and the others barricade the doors. Once they’re finished, they plan.
JACK:
Do we head up to the second floor now?
VERONICA:
BRYAN:
I say we all stay as a group.
VERONICA:
(Objects)
But why? What if we’re discovered?
BRYAN:
Then we’ll all have a chance, since we can fight together.
Despite Bryan’s reassurance, Veronica still looks concerned.
VERONICA:
And what about that alpha wolf?
CURTIS:
Yeah. She’s right. I don’t think we can fight it.
BRYAN:
Then we’re screwed.
JACK:
BRYAN:
(Adamantly)
No. We should stay together so that we’ll all know what’s going on as a group.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
For example, if the wolves come here, and we’re in different locations, how will we communicate with each other on where we should go?
VERONICA:
Bryan has a point. We actually should stick together, and then we might have a chance at surviving this.
JACK:
(Looks exasperated) Alright. So where on the second floor should we head to?
BRYAN:
I don’t know. I haven’t checked that floor yet. Have any of you?
The others shake their heads quickly.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
Ok then. Let’s see what’s up there.
Bryan leads the others up to the second floor.
They search the area, and there happens to be a trap door leading to the roof of the lodge.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
Guys, I found a good spot to hide.
The other three, who were searching elsewhere on the second floor of the lodge, join Bryan inside the laundry room. The trap door is located about ten feet above their heads.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
Since we can’t jump up there, we have to use one of the laundry machines and get onto it.
JACK:
So who will be the last to go?
CURTIS:
I will. Since I’m injured.
BRYAN:
Are you sure you can jump?
Bryan peers at Curtis apprehensively.
CURTIS:
I’ll try.
BRYAN:
Now who’s going to keep guard for when the wolves arrive?
JACK:
I will.
BRYAN:
Good. So then we should be set for now.
The four wait nervously inside the laundry room as Jack stares out the laundry room window.
JACK:
I see three of them coming towards the lodge.
BRYAN:
Let me see.
Bryan goes to the window, and then the others join him there too.
They all see the wolves enter the lodge.
There’s the last gray wolf and two of the white wolves.
JACK:
They’re coming inside!
VERONICA:
Where’s the alpha?
BRYAN:
It’s probably testing us. Anyways, we need to lock the laundry room door.
Jack goes over and he locks the door to the room where he and the other three are at.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
Now we wait.
Both he and the other three stand as far away from the door as possible.
Then suddenly, the wolves begin to bang on the door.
Veronica yells, and as soon as she does so, the wolves begin to pound on the door even harder.
And although the other laundry machine is blocking the door, it’s clear that the wolves are strong enough to break through it anyways.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
We need to get to the top of the roof, now!
Bryan and the others step onto the laundry machine and Bryan begins to pick-lock the trap door with his knife.
It snaps open.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
