All three men hoist Veronica onto the roof. And now it’s Jack’s turn. Once Jack goes, it’s Bryan’s. Then it’s Curtis’s.
The door to the laundry room is almost open.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
Come on, Curtis.
It takes a few tries for Curtis to leap to the opening on the roof.
And when he does so, the wolves make their way in.
It’s a tug-of-war between Bryan, Jack, and Veronica, and the three wolves.
However, the people win and Curtis is on the wolf after his right leg gets mangled even further from the wolves’ bites.
EXT. LODGE-NIGHT
The wolves disappear from sight.
VERONICA:
Where are they now?
BRYAN:
I think they’re going towards the balcony to get onto the other side of the roof.
Both Bryan and the others watch the balcony.
And the wolves end up leaping off of the balcony and onto the roof.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
(With a sense of urgency) We need to get off the roof now.
JACK:
But where do we go?
Bryan looks around.
A lower part of the roof lies about fifteen feet from where the group is currently situated at.
CURTIS:
Should we try to fight them off?
BRYAN:
I don’t think that’s a good idea.
The wolves charge towards the group.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
RUN!
Both Bryan and the others run towards the edge of the roof.
Curtis lags behind and is the last to jump off of the roof. All four people appear to be winded from the jump.
And therefore, they take a few seconds to get back up, except for Curtis, who can’t get back up at all as he injures his right leg too much from the jump.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
(Says to Curtis)
Come on, man. We need to hurry.
CURTIS:
You guys go on without me.
At this, the four look up at the rooftop. The wolves are seen running to the edge.
And it’s clear by their speed that they will not slow down enough to not jump off the roof.
BRYAN:
(To Jack and Veronica) We need to go now.
Bryan hesitates for a second, and then he runs off.
Meanwhile, the wolves leap off the roof and Curtis tries to fight them off.
But it’s no use.
They overwhelm him quickly.
INT. VALLEY-SOUTHWEST SECTION-NEAR LODGE-NIGHT
Bryan turns his head in the direction of the lodge, where Curtis is heard screaming.
BRYAN:
Oh no.
And then he turns back towards where Jack (who’s running the fastest) is headed.
He looks behind at Veronica, who’s catching up to him.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
Come on. Hurry up. I don’t want the wolves to catch up to you and kill you.
VERONICA:
BRYAN:
Save that for later. Now, let’s go.
As soon as Veronica catches up to Bryan, they keep heading on forward.
VERONICA:
(Anxiously)
And what about Curtis?
BRYAN:
There’s nothing we can do for him.
And the two keep progressing on towards the mountainside, where Jack is heading towards.
INT. VALLEY-SOUTHWEST SECTION-FAR FROM LODGE-NIGHT
The three remaining survivors are far from the lodge. Bryan looks behind himself.
There’s no wolves in sight.
BRYAN:
Thank god, we’re out of range.
JACK:
What do we do now?
BRYAN:
We go up the mountain.
VERONICA:
But why? It’s not like we can get a better vantage point from up there. (Pauses for emphasis) It’s dark!
BRYAN:
Of course. But, we stay up there. And at dawn, we’ll be able to see the wolves.
JACK:
And what if they get to us before we go up the mountain?
BRYAN:
(Grimly)
Let’s just hope that doesn’t happen.
And Bryan and the other two head towards the mountainside.
Somewhere behind them, four of the wolves (the alpha isn’t present) follow them from about a hundred feet away.
INT. VALLEY-SOUTHWEST SECTION-NEAR MOUNTAINSIDE-NIGHT
Bryan, Jack, and Veronica close in on the mountain on the west side of the arena.
BRYAN:
I think we should pick up our pace.
VERONICA:
Well then, let’s make sure that we don’t make too much noise.
As soon as the three move at a faster rate, their footsteps can be heard.
Meanwhile, the wolves inch their way closer to the people each minute.
JACK:
I just hope that alpha doesn’t come to get us.
BRYAN:
(Frowns)
It will eventually.
JACK:
What do you mean?
BRYAN:
I mean, we won’t be safe forever.
JACK:
Then what do we do when it decides to come after us?
Bryan shrugs.
He has no answer for Jack.
BRYAN:
Then we fight the wolf.
JACK:
Us three? I guess we have a chance.
VERONICA:
(Joins the conversation) That’s if we’re careful.
BRYAN:
I think I see something.
The other two turn in the direction that Bryan is pointing at.
And the three squint at four pairs of yellow eyes. The wolves are now fifteen feet away from them.
Bryan steps protectively in front of the others.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
I think we are in trouble.
JACK:
Knives out?
BRYAN:
Absolutely.
The three survivors tremble as they watch the wolves creep up on them.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
(Whispers)
I think there’s four of them.
JACK:
And there’s five total.
VERONICA:
Let’s hope the alpha isn’t with the group.
BRYAN:
Let’s hope.
As soon as Bryan steps back, the wolves charge at the group.
The fight lasts approximately one-and-a-half minutes, and here’s how it plays out:
Bryan kills one of the wolves by stabbing it, while Veronica, another (slashes its throat).
And Jack begins to get overwhelmed and receives enormous cuts on his arms and chest before the others help scare off the remaining two wolves.
JACK:
BRYAN:
Remain seated.
Jack keeps an upright position on the ground, and Bryan takes out his first-aid-kit.
Veronica keeps an eye out for the wolves.
She has a slash-mark on her face that is situated next to her left eye and runs down near her ear.
Meanwhile, Jack seems to lose it.
JACK:
(Repeats 2x)
There’s blood everywhere.
BRYAN:
Calm down, please.
Bryan observes Jack’s body, and then he lifts Jack’s shirt.
He searches all around his upper body, and then he sighs with relief.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
There’s nothing serious.
JACK:
What are you-a doctor? How do you know?
BRYAN:
My parents wanted me to be one, and even though I never became a doctor.
JACK:
(Says darkly)
Then I can only hope that you are right.
BRYAN:
Trust me.
JACK:
Well, there is blood all over me. So “trust” is a hard thing for me to do right now.
BRYAN:
What else can I say?
JACK:
I don’t know.
And Bryan grabs a hold of Jack’s hand and helps him to his feet.
Jack coughs out blood.
BRYAN:
Any sign of the wolves?
VERONICA:
No.
BRYAN:
Then I say we keep moving forward.
JACK:
Are we still heading towards the mountain?
BRYAN:
Actually, no. The wolves might expect us to head towards the mountain.
VERONICA:
You’re right. They’re smarter than we originally thought.
JACK:
Ok then. I’d like to go now.
BRYAN:
(Glares at Jack)
What do you think I’m trying to do?
Bryan approaches Jack, then Veronica separates the two men.
VERONICA:
(Calmly)
Let’s not kill each other out here before we have a chance to see if we can survive against the wolves.
JACK:
She’s right.
Jack laughs cruelly, and Bryan glares at him even more.
VERONICA:
(Says to Bryan) Just ignore him.
Bryan shakes his head then turns away from Jack, who looks impatiently at the two.
JACK:
So where do we go?
BRYAN:
We keep going north, but we’ll no longer head towards the mountain.
