Dear John

Synopsis: South Carolina US Army Special operations soldier John is on summer leave from his German base, visiting his widowed father. Being gallant on the pier, he befriends college student Savannah, a college student, and her buddies, a terminal father and his angelic son. John falls in love with Savannah, who diagnoses his beloved, gentle but weird father as mildly autistic. He plans not to sign up again, but 9/11 changes that, and she won't wait idly while their friends desperately need help.

And you and l could,

35

00:
02:59,726 -- 00:03:01,159

RAND Y:
Oh, sh*t!

SAVANNAH:
Oh, no!

36

00:
03:01,328 -- 00:03:03,421

Oh, no, Randy, no!

l'm sorry. l'm--

37

00:
03:03,597 -- 00:03:06,430

l'll get it, l'll get it,

l'm on it. l'm sorry.

l'm sorry.

38

00:

Okay? l'm on it.

39

00:
03:07,901 -- 00:03:09,232

My whole life

40

00:
03:09,402 -- 00:03:11,632

l got it. l got it.

41

00:
03:14,508 -- 00:03:15,634

[GASPS]

42

00:
03:33,827 -- 00:03:35,351

You got it.

43

00:
03:43,236 -- 00:03:45,864

Dude. l was

gonna get that.

44

00:
03:46,039 -- 00:03:47,666

Yeah, l just--

l mean, thanks for jumping in.

45

00:
03:47,841 -- 00:03:48,865

Yeah, no problem.

46

00:
03:49,042 -- 00:03:51,374

But l mean, hey, l'll take it.

47

00:
03:51,912 -- 00:03:53,880

Thank you so much!

48

00:
03:55,081 -- 00:03:56,343

RAND Y:

Who jumps off a 20-foot pier?

49

00:
03:56,516 -- 00:03:58,575

Wow. Ugh.

50

00:
03:58,752 -- 00:04:02,848

Gosh, l'm a mess.

You are a lifesaver.

l'm Savannah.

51

00:
04:03,023 -- 00:04:04,888

John.

John.

52

00:
04:05,058 -- 00:04:09,392

Brave man.

Uh, this is my life

in here, so l owe--

53

00:
04:09,563 -- 00:04:11,497

l owe you.

Don't worry about it.

54

00:
04:11,965 -- 00:04:13,694

Nice to meet you, John.

Nice to meet you too.

55

00:
04:13,867 -- 00:04:15,334

Y'all have a good night.

56

00:
04:16,236 -- 00:04:18,704

Yeah, thanks. l was

in the water for that.

57

00:
04:19,272 -- 00:04:21,240

l was seriously

getting it for you.

58

00:
04:21,408 -- 00:04:23,239

[i/i]

59

00:
04:23,410 -- 00:04:25,275

RAND Y:
This guy's crazy.

JOHN:
Yeah, no, l swear l'm not.

60

00:
04:25,445 -- 00:04:29,074

l'm not stalking you.

l just gotta get my board.

61

00:
04:29,249 -- 00:04:30,773

SAVANNAH:

Um, are you staying here?

62

00:
04:30,951 -- 00:04:32,543

JOHN:
Yeah, yeah,

l'm from around here.

63

00:
04:32,719 -- 00:04:36,280

SAVANNAH:

Hey, John, do you want to--?

My house is right over there.

64

00:
04:36,456 -- 00:04:38,321

We were actually

going back right now.

65

00:
04:38,491 -- 00:04:40,118

Do you want to join us?

66

00:
04:40,293 -- 00:04:41,385

We're just gonna

have a barbecue.

67

00:
04:41,561 -- 00:04:44,689

No, it's okay. l don't want to,

you know, intrude on y'all.

My dad's making dinner, so...

68

00:
04:44,864 -- 00:04:46,354

Okay.

69

00:
04:46,533 -- 00:04:50,731

Well, l could at least give you

a beer for the walk home.

70

00:
04:52,172 -- 00:04:53,196

[CHUCKLES]

71

00:
04:53,373 -- 00:04:54,965

Where is it?

Right over there.

72

00:
04:56,710 -- 00:04:57,734

[SAVANNAH LAUGHS]

73

00:
04:57,911 -- 00:04:59,242

[JOHN CHUCKLES]

74

76

00:
05:22,302 -- 00:05:23,963

You in the military or something?

Yeah.

77

00:
05:24,871 -- 00:05:26,202

Really?

Mm-hm.

78

00:
05:26,373 -- 00:05:28,466

What branch

are you in?

79

00:
05:28,642 -- 00:05:30,940

Army,

Special Forces.

80

00:
05:31,111 -- 00:05:33,944

Oh, Special Forces.

That's, uh...

81

00:
05:34,114 -- 00:05:36,173

That's impressive. That's...

82

00:
05:38,218 -- 00:05:41,881

ls that like a Special Forces

ring they give you?

ls that what it says on it?

83

00:
05:42,055 -- 00:05:43,955

lt looks nice on you.

84

00:
05:44,124 -- 00:05:47,582

Aren't you supposed

to be wearing a hat too?

Like a French hat, a beret.

85

00:
05:47,761 -- 00:05:49,490

Right? That's what it's called?

SAVANNAH:
Randy. Randy?

86

00:
05:49,663 -- 00:05:50,925

What? l'm just joking with him.

87

00:
05:51,097 -- 00:05:52,291

You shouldn't

make fun of a guy

88

00:
05:52,465 -- 00:05:54,126

who can kill you

with his bare hands.

89

00:
05:54,300 -- 00:05:58,168

Oh-ho! Ooh. Ooh!

Big guy.

90

00:
05:58,338 -- 00:06:00,636

Rock them, sock them,

let's go.

91

00:
06:00,807 -- 00:06:02,331

How about that?

92

00:
06:03,343 -- 00:06:05,641

You know,

l'm gonna go get a beer.

93

00:
06:05,812 -- 00:06:08,576

Soldier. Pleasure.

94

00:
06:11,217 -- 00:06:13,549

[BOTH CHUCKLE]

95

00:
06:13,720 -- 00:06:16,518

l'm sorry about him.

He thinks he likes me.

96

00:
06:16,690 -- 00:06:18,715

Yeah, l think

he likes you too.

97

00:
06:18,892 -- 00:06:23,056

No, l'm not his type.

He just doesn't know it yet.

98
