Toni Collette-Galafassi (born Toni Collett; 1 November 1972), credited professionally as Toni Collette, is an Australian film, television, and stage actress and musician. She is known for her work in independent films as well as support roles in studio films, for which she has received accolades. Her feature film debut was in 1992 and her breakthrough was with the comedy-drama, Muriel's Wedding (1994), for which she earned a Golden Globe Award nomination. She achieved greater international recognition for her role in The Sixth Sense (1999) – the highest grossing horror movie at the time – for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Collette's diverse film genres include period-drama The Hours (2002), drama Japanese Story (2003), comedy The Way, Way Back (2013), horror Hereditary (2017) and mystery Knives Out (2019). She received a BAFTA Award nomination for her support role in About a Boy (2002). Her Broadway performances include the lead role in The Wild Party (2000), which earned a nomination for a Tony Award. On TV she took the lead role in a comedy series, United States of Tara (2008–11), and won a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award.
