INT. BADER'S HOUSE - DAY

Bader, Slim Z, and Shaikha are eating dinner with their babysitters, Annie and Caleb.

SLIM Z:
"Hey, Caleb, can I get an allowance?"

(Everyone stops eating and looks at Slim Z)

BADER (V.O.):
"I know it sounds like an innocent enough question but here is what he heard..."

CUT TO:

INT. CALEB'S MIND - DAY

Slim Z appears in front of Caleb.

SLIM Z:
"Since you work like a slave all day and didn’t have any time to enjoy your own money? Can I have it?"

CUT TO:

INT. BADER'S HOUSE - DAY

Caleb looks at Slim Z with a raised eyebrow.

CALEB:
"Dude, you do understand that I’m not your dad, right? and plus I already allow you to do a bunch of things at home. How about you come with me to deliver papers tomorrow and we'll see how that goes?"

SLIM Z:
"Fine, I guess I could use the extra cash."

BADER (V.O.):
"Meanwhile, after our school closed for repainting, Caleb Johnston and I engaged in a game of 'dares.'"

CUT TO:

INT. SCHOOL - DAY

Bader and Caleb Johnston stand in an empty classroom.

CALEB JOHNSTON:
"I dare you to drink this hot-sauce shake."

BADER:
"Are you sure that's a good idea?"

CALEB JOHNSTON:
"Of course! I've had it before, it's not that bad!"

(Bader takes a sip)

BADER:
"Oh my God, this is terrible! Why did you make me do this?"

CALEB JOHNSTON:
"I don't know, man, I'm sorry!"

BADER (V.O.):
"Caleb ended up in the emergency room with a stomach flu."

CUT TO:

INT. DOCTOR'S OFFICE - DAY

Bader and Caleb Johnston are sitting in the waiting room.

CALEB JOHNSTON:
"I'm sorry, Bader. I didn't know it would make me sick."

BADER:
"It's fine, man. Just don't drink any more gross stuff."

CUT TO:

EXT. NEIGHBORHOOD - DAY

Slim Z and Caleb are delivering papers.

SLIM Z:
"This sucks. When do we get paid?"

CALEB:
"At the end of the month."

SLIM Z:
"Are you kidding me? That's like six months from now!"

CALEB:
"Well, we get paid every month. So you should have enough for that leather jacket you want in six months."

SLIM Z:
"Ugh, I guess it's better than nothing."

FADE IN:

INT. Caleb Reynolds’s Car - Day

Slim Z and Caleb Reynolds are delivering papers. The car stops at a curb, and Slim Z gets out, running to a house.

Slim Z knocks on the door and waits. A grandpa with a white beard appears.

Grandpa:
“What can I do for you?”

Slim Z hands him the paper.

Slim Z:
“Here’s the news.”

Grandpa:
“Thanks, son.”

Slim Z runs back to the car.

Caleb Reynolds:
“How much did he give you?”

Slim Z:
“Uh, nothing.”

Caleb Reynolds:
“What? Come on. You have to ask for payment.”

Slim Z:
“Oh, okay.”

Slim Z opens the door.

Slim Z:
“Uh, excuse me?”

Grandpa looks up.

Slim Z:
“Do you have any payment?”

Grandpa:
“Oh, I’m sorry, son. I don’t have any cash on me right now.”

Slim Z looks disappointed.

Slim Z:
“Oh, okay. Thanks.”

Slim Z closes the door and walks back to the car.

Caleb Reynolds:
“What did he say?”

Slim Z:
“Nothing.”

Caleb Reynolds:
“What do you mean?”

Slim Z:
“He didn’t pay me anything.”

Caleb Reynolds:
“You didn’t ask for payment?”

Slim Z:
“I did, but he didn’t have any cash on him.”

Caleb Reynolds chuckles.

Caleb Reynolds:
“Welcome to the world of work.”

BADER (V.O.):
"Slim Z made enough money for his leather jacket and became one of the hottest kids in school. And his crush, Emily Dobson, started to flirt with him."

CUT TO:

INT. SCHOOL - DAY

Slim Z and Emily are standing in the hallway.

EMILY:
"Hey, Slim Z, that jacket looks really good on you."

SLIM Z:
"Thanks, Emily. I got it with my hard-earned paper-route money."

EMILY:
"I'm impressed. You're kind of a bad boy now, huh?"

SLIM Z:
"Well, I wouldn't say that..."

BADER (V.O.):
"And that's when we flashbacked to kindergarten, where Slim Z had a crush on a girl."

CUT TO:

INT. KINDERGARTEN - DAY

A young Slim Z is standing in front of a girl, nervously shaking her hand.

YOUNG SLIM Z:
"Hi, my name is Slim Z."

GIRL:
"Hi, Slim Z."

(The girl's friends start screaming and cheering)

GIRL'S FRIEND: "Shake my hand too, Slim Z! Shake my hand!"

BADER (V.O.):
"And one of the girl's friends started to stalk him."

CUT TO:

INT. BADER'S HOUSE - DAY

Bader, Caleb Johnston, Slim Z, and Annie are sitting on the couch.

ANNIE:
"So, Slim Z, did you like working with Caleb?"

SLIM Z:
"Eh, it was okay. I just wish I didn't have to work so hard for the money."

CALEB JOHNSTON:
"Well, life isn't always easy. Sometimes you have to work for what you want."

BADER:
"Yeah, and sometimes you have to drink hot-sauce shakes and go to the doctor."

(Everyone laughs)

FADE OUT.
