Dear John Page #3

Synopsis: South Carolina US Army Special operations soldier John is on summer leave from his German base, visiting his widowed father. Being gallant on the pier, he befriends college student Savannah, a college student, and her buddies, a terminal father and his angelic son. John falls in love with Savannah, who diagnoses his beloved, gentle but weird father as mildly autistic. He plans not to sign up again, but 9/11 changes that, and she won't wait idly while their friends desperately need help.

202

00:
11:19,592 -- 00:11:21,355

White sheep.

203

00:
11:22,128 -- 00:11:25,097

lt's fine. We make it work.

204

00:
11:26,499 -- 00:11:28,490

l'm up here on the left.

205

00:
11:38,144 -- 00:11:40,476

TlM:

Hey, uh, John.

206

00:
11:40,646 -- 00:11:44,104

For the record, if you do

anything to hurt Savannah,

207

00:
11:44,283 -- 00:11:46,376

l'm gonna

have to break something.

208

00:
11:46,552 -- 00:11:49,817

Something in your leg.

Some-- One of the bones

in there.

209

00:
11:49,989 -- 00:11:51,013

[CHUCKLES]

210

00:
11:52,025 -- 00:11:53,151

Okay.

211

00:
11:53,326 -- 00:11:58,559

lt's just l know her father

and he would expect me

to say something like that.

212

00:
11:58,731 -- 00:12:02,497

lt'd just sound a lot more natural

coming out of his mouth.

213

00:
12:02,668 -- 00:12:04,033

lt sounded fine.

214

00:
12:04,537 -- 00:12:06,528

lt sounded fine.

215

00:
12:07,240 -- 00:12:08,571

No, it--

Yes, it did.

216

00:
12:08,741 -- 00:12:10,641

No, it didn't.

lt did. lt really did.

217

00:
12:10,810 -- 00:12:12,038

lt didn't. But thank you.

218

00:
12:12,211 -- 00:12:14,509

ALAN:
lt really did.

TlM:
You think so?

219

00:
12:14,680 -- 00:12:16,272

ALAN:
Yeah, it did.

TlM:
Okay.

220

00:
12:16,449 -- 00:12:17,643

[TlM & ALAN CHUCKLE]

221

00:
12:17,817 -- 00:12:19,045

[HORN HONKS]

222

00:
12:19,218 -- 00:12:21,379

TlM:
Hey, don't honk

the horn, it's nighttime.

223

00:
12:21,554 -- 00:12:23,021

ALAN:

Vroom, vroom!

224

00:
12:23,189 -- 00:12:24,417

[JOHN CHUCKLES]

225

00:
12:24,590 -- 00:12:27,024

TlM:
Good night, John.

JOHN:
Good night, Tim.

226

00:
12:27,193 -- 00:12:28,592

[ENGlNE STARTS]

227

00:
12:28,761 -- 00:12:31,697

Thanks for the ride.

Yeah, no problem.

228

00:
12:31,764 -- 00:12:34,096

[i/i]

229

00:
13:05,264 -- 00:13:06,561

[TlMER DlNGS]

230

00:
13:07,200 -- 00:13:11,466

Hey, Dad, l'm not,

uh, gonna be able

to stay for dinner.

231

00:
13:11,637 -- 00:13:13,901

Well, l made

lasagna.

232

00:
13:14,073 -- 00:13:16,371

l know you made lasagna.

lt's Sunday.

233

00:
13:16,542 -- 00:13:17,907

Um...

234

00:
13:18,277 -- 00:13:19,972

Can l borrow the car?

235

00:
13:29,055 -- 00:13:30,454

Thanks.

236

00:
13:33,793 -- 00:13:35,226

SAVANNAH:

Best seafood you'll ever have.

237

00:
13:35,394 -- 00:13:36,418

Heh. Yeah, l know.

238

00:
13:36,596 -- 00:13:38,393

l used to come here all the time.

Really?

239

00:
13:38,564 -- 00:13:41,431

Are you sure you don't

wanna go somewhere,

l don't know, nice?

240

00:
13:41,601 -- 00:13:44,263

Nice? No, l wanna go

somewhere good.

241

00:
13:44,904 -- 00:13:46,269

Okay.

242

00:
13:46,439 -- 00:13:49,306

[THE DONKE YS'

''EX CELSlOR LAD Y''

PLAYlNG OVER SPEAKERS]

243

00:
13:49,475 -- 00:13:51,306

What the hell

you doing here?

244

00:
13:53,946 -- 00:13:56,710

Come on, Steve.

lt's been three years already.

245

00:
13:57,950 -- 00:13:59,474

l don't want

any trouble here.

246

00:
13:59,652 -- 00:14:02,120

JOHN:

You're not gonna

get any. l promise.

247

00:
14:03,156 -- 00:14:04,623

All right.

248

00:
14:04,790 -- 00:14:06,223

Thank you.

249

00:
14:10,630 -- 00:14:12,598

What happened

with that guy out there?

250

00:
14:12,765 -- 00:14:14,790

What guy?

What's the story with him?

251

00:
14:14,967 -- 00:14:16,366

No story.

Really?

252

00:
14:16,536 -- 00:14:17,628

Yeah.

253

00:
14:18,104 -- 00:14:19,969

He's an old buddy of mine.

254

00:
14:22,909 -- 00:14:24,501

What?

255

00:
14:25,878 -- 00:14:27,175

[CHUCKLES]

256

00:
14:31,384 -- 00:14:34,012

Your dad get mad

at you for coming

home late last night?

257

00:
14:34,987 -- 00:14:39,219

No. Uh-uh. He's not really

the type that gets mad.

258

00:
14:39,392 -- 00:14:41,053

What kind of guy

is he then?

259

00:
14:41,227 -- 00:14:42,660

Um...

260

00:
14:43,196 -- 00:14:44,424

Quiet one?

261

00:
14:45,798 -- 00:14:49,199

Could be worse, l guess.

l guess.

262

00:
14:49,635 -- 00:14:51,193

And your mom?

263

00:
14:51,871 -- 00:14:54,101

Nope, just me and my dad.

264

00:
14:54,974 -- 00:14:57,135

Did he raise you

all by himself?

265

00:
14:58,544 -- 00:14:59,943

Yeah.

266

00:
15:01,113 -- 00:15:02,842

Why do you wanna know

so much about my dad?

267

00:
15:03,015 -- 00:15:04,573

Just curious.

268

00:
15:05,484 -- 00:15:07,281

Curious about

where you come from.

269

00:
15:07,453 -- 00:15:10,445

[RYAN ADAMS'

''ANSWERlNG BELL''

PLAYlNG OVER SPEAKERS]

270

00:
15:13,392 -- 00:15:15,087

l wanna meet

your dad.

271

00:
15:15,895 -- 00:15:17,294

Tonight.

272

00:
15:22,635 -- 00:15:25,866

JOHN:
Look, you're--

You're not gonna get

very much out of him.

273

00:
15:26,038 -- 00:15:29,201

So, l don't know,

just don't take it

personally, okay?

274

00:
15:32,311 -- 00:15:33,869

Hey, Pop.

275

00:
15:35,147 -- 00:15:36,739

l got somebody

l want you to meet.

276

00:
15:38,317 -- 00:15:39,545

SAVANNAH:

Hey.

277

00:
15:39,719 -- 00:15:40,913

JOHN:

This is Savannah.

278

00:
15:41,087 -- 00:15:42,384

Hi.

279

00:
15:42,555 -- 00:15:45,023

lt's nice to meet you,

Mr. Tyree.

280

00:
15:45,558 -- 00:15:47,389

Um... Hm.

Wow.

281

00:
15:47,560 -- 00:15:48,754

Wow.

He-- This is my--

282

00:
15:48,928 -- 00:15:51,624

He collects coins.

He, um-- lt's kind of

like his big hobby.

283

00:
15:51,797 -- 00:15:53,788

This is amazing.

284

00:
15:53,966 -- 00:15:56,491

You have so many coins.

How did you get started

in all this?

285

00:
15:56,669 -- 00:16:00,161

Uh... Uh...

Through John, actually.

286

00:
16:01,073 -- 00:16:02,700

But it's not his

thing anymore.

287

00:
16:02,875 -- 00:16:04,399

Hey, you know, we should

probably maybe go.

288

00:
16:04,577 -- 00:16:06,636

SAVANNAH:
What is this coin?

MR. TYREE:
Uh...

289

00:
16:06,812 -- 00:16:10,407

That's a-- That's a

Sacagawean mule.

290

00:
16:10,583 -- 00:16:13,177

lt's actually...

Wow, it's a mule.

291

00:
16:15,755 -- 00:16:20,658

Do you want to see some more?

Absolutely, yes, if you don't mind.

292

00:
16:20,826 -- 00:16:22,384

Put this, uh,

glove on then.

293

00:
16:22,561 -- 00:16:23,892

Thanks.

294

00:
16:24,930 -- 00:16:29,526

MR. TYREE:

This is a humorous one.

This is a satirical coin.

295

00:
16:29,702 -- 00:16:30,794

This is massive.

296

00:
16:30,970 -- 00:16:33,632

Yeah, William Jennings Bryan,

when he ran for president,

297

00:
16:33,806 -- 00:16:36,969

he was-- He believed in--

No, don't turn it over.

298

00:
16:37,143 -- 00:16:38,405

Leave it here.

299

00:
16:38,577 -- 00:16:42,638

Do you remember that he had

the free silver policy. You remember.

300

00:
16:42,815 -- 00:16:44,009

Oh.

301

00:
16:44,183 -- 00:16:47,949

And McKinley was his opponent

and he's-- Wait, here.

302

00:
16:48,120 -- 00:16:52,557

Now see, that's a real silver dollar.

That's the size of a silver dollar.

303

00:
16:52,725 -- 00:16:55,523

And McKinley said that

Wow. That's so weird.

304

00:
16:55,695 -- 00:17:00,189

if Bryan had his way,
