Gimme Shelter Page #6

Synopsis: 16 year old street-wise Apple (Vanessa Hudgens) has never had an easy life. Her mother, June Bailey (Rosario Dawson), is an addict and prostitute, is verbally and physically abusive, and is grooming her daughter to follow in her footsteps. Apple knows the streets, alleys and motels like the back of her hand but wants more from her life. She possesses a tenacious, tough, indomitable spirit, and will not surrender to fate. Apple runs away from her mother and tracks down her father whom she has never known, as he was only 19 when he got Apple's mother pregnant. Apple begs her now Wall Street Broker father, Tom Fitzpatrick (Brendan Fraser), to take her in. In the few days under her father's care, she learns she's become pregnant by a kid from the streets she met on the train, who now wants nothing to do with her. She is forced to leave her father's home because of her choice to give birth to the baby she is carrying. Apple runs away again, and is eventually taken under the wing of Father M

Can you do this?

He can come see the baby, but

I don't want to talk to him.

Okay. Okay.

"I'm sorry it worked out this way."

"I never really meant

for this to happen."

"My name is Tom."

"I'm your father, but we'll

probably never know each other."

"I just found out you're

going to be a girl."

"June and I barely

know each other."

"We just went out a few times."

"It's not like we planned this."

"You just happened."

"You showed up unexpectedly."

"I'm living at home

with my parents."

"I'm about to start college."

"I can't disappoint them."

"I have no choice."

"June is stubborn."

"I can't talk to her."

"I'll never see her again,"

"so I guess I'll never see you."

"That hurts."

"I would have liked

to be your father,"

"but I'm just not ready."

"I guess I'm hoping that you

may someday understand"

"and forgive me..."

"and that maybe"

"you would be apple of my eye."

"I'm sorry. Tom."

Shh. Shh.

- He's so cute.

- A baby!

Thank you guys so much for coming.

Apple!

Ha ha!

Congratulations.

Thank you.

You look good, too.

Thank you. Thank you.

Good feet.

Good foundation.

We got some presents for you.

And flowers.

And I spelled your name right.

Julian, go ahead and

say hi to Hope.

You go right ahead and

walk right over to them.

Julian, hi.

Play date.

Let's have a play date here.

I just love you guys.

They're all proud of you.

Oh, look at her stretch.

- She's out.

- Yeah.

I'm going to feed her before

she really passes out.

Come here, baby.

It's okay.

She's out like the light.

Want me to take that?

I'm going to go to the restroom, and

you two can have some quality time.

Shh.

You want to hold her?

Yes.

Here.

Sweet little baby.

I never got to do this with you.

I didn't understand.

Here, let me... I'll take her.

There you go.

You know something?

She was born one day before I was.

Which reminds me. We're having a...

a little party tomorrow afternoon.

Joanna's put it together.

It's at the house, and, um...

if you're not doing anything,

we were hoping that maybe

you two would come by.

Unh!

Come on.

I'll show you the

new place. Come on.

She's so cute.

Apple!

It's a baby!

There is a house

built out of stone

Wooden floors, walls,

and windowsills

Tables and chairs worn

by all of the dust

This is a place where

I don't feel alone

What do you think?

Nice?

It's all for you and for Hope.

- For us?

- Yes.

We want you to come

and live with us.

- Can I blow out...

- I want to!

One, two, three.

Yeah!

I:

Built

A home

Is that how you cut the cake?

Who's going to butter Daddy's nose?

No, just a birthday.

Just a birthday.

Hey, who's got a

napkin for me, huh?

Keep it on there as

a midnight snack.

...disappeared

From me

From you

And now

It's time

To leave

And turn

To dust

You're really leaving us?

What about the Jersey

Shore next week?

Yeah. We can't go without you.

It won't be the same.

Look, it's-it's...

It's real hard for me to

tell you guys how I feel.

Thank you guys so much for... for

caring and being there for me.

You've all been like sisters to me.

I'm never really going

to leave you guys.

Friends for life.

We're going to miss you.

See you suddenly.

Stop the car.

Tom, stop the car.

What's wrong?

Just the people there.

I mean, the girls and...

and the housemothers, they...

they make... they make you

feel like you're family.

Like you're loved.

Like...

like you're worth something, and...

and you can achieve

a lot of things.

You know, it's... it's...

It's crazy how you can go

and live with strangers

and feel... feel so much joy

and not feel like...

like you're any different.

And... and... and not...

not feel unwanted.

And feeling you can go

places in your life and...

and succeed in life.

Apple

it's okay.

It's all right.

It's all right.

Come here.

All right.

I understand.

I understand.

Look, I know I could be

your daughter someday,

but I just need some time.

Can you give me that?

Yep, I can do that.

Apple! Apple!

Oh, my God! Apple!

Apple!

Oh, my God! Apple!

Oh, Apple!

Oh, Apple!

I pray you'll be my eyes

And watch her where she goes

And help her to be wise

Help me to let go

Every mother's prayer

Every child knows

Lead her to a place

Guide her with your grace

To a place where she'll be safe

I pray she finds your light

And holds it in her heart

As darkness falls each night

Remind her where you are

Every mother's prayer

Every child knows

Need to find a place

Guide her with your grace

Give her faith so

she'll be safe

Lead her to a place

Guide her with your grace
