Go North Page #3

Synopsis: A few years from now, something will happen that will change our world. A global event that causes pandemonium, chaos, and death. Life as we know it will never be the same. Left behind are abandoned buildings, empty streets, and other painful reminders of a better yesterday. Not a single adult remains, all victims of this global catastrophe. The only survivors are teenagers and children, living on the streets in the hollowed out shell of a once great city. This is their world now. They make their own rules and enforce their own laws. Some are merely trying to survive, while others rule by force.

we're good.

So where are you two headed,

anyway?

No, no, no, no, no, no, no.

What?

My map, it's in my bag.

Sh*t! If they find my bag, they're

gonna know where we're going.

We're lost.

How you lost if you're here?

I don't know the way

without the map.

Just keep moving forward.

Maybe the way will find you.

We're not lost.

What are you talking about?

I know where we are.

I know where to go.

Where?

Over there.

All right.

This is as far as I take you.

Hey, look.

Things gonna happen.

Things always happen.

Whether it is good or bad,

things always happen

for a reason. Hmm?

Oh, and hey...

Be careful.

- Are we going the right way?

- Yeah, we are.

See those chimes?

My dad and I used to

walk by them all the time.

Okay.

Ugh!

We reek.

Come on.

What, you're gonna get in the

pool with your clothes on?

Oh!

Come on.

I'm not a very good swimmer.

I'm not going to let you drown.

If you do, it's on you.

I got you.

Okay.

- You're good?

- Yeah.

So f***ing cold.

It's not that bad.

What was that?

- Don't tell me that's a f***ing flat.

- Sh*t. It's flat.

F***!

F***.

We have a spare?

Please tell me we have a spare.

No. No.

No. There's no way.

So stupid.

Can't believe I thought

they'd still be alive.

This doesn't mean anything.

That's why we're going north.

It's gonna be okay.

- Just turn around.

- We can't.

- Just go back home.

- Let's just go back home.

- We can't!

We can't go back.

Emergency broadcast.

Stay indoors

until further notice.

Seek shelter,

don not travel south.

Evacuation points

will be announced...

Go north. Go north.

Go back to that. What was that?

I don't know.

Did you hear that?

My nose is bleeding.

Dad, watch out!

This is it. Home.

Let's go inside.

Should have just stayed here.

Way better

than where we ended up.

Batteries still work.

This was my dad's favorite song.

I haven't heard music

in forever.

Jessie!

They're here.

Where did you get that?

Quit it.

Josh. No!

Hey!

Watch out!

What the f*** was that?

You just killed a dog, man.

We gotta get the f***

out of here.

Go.

Drive around them.

Turn the light off.

Turn the light off.

Josh?

Josh. Josh!

- I'm here. I'm here.

- Where were you?

- I...

- You can't just do that.

- You can't just disappear.

- Jess...

What if something happened

to me?

- Jess, I... -What if

something happened to you?

I'm sorry.

I wanted to surprise you.

Come on.

I wanna show you something.

- Josh, this is stupid.

- Don't peek.

I can't see anything.

You're covering my eyes.

Okay, come here.

- Okay, you ready?

- Hmm... ready.

Okay.

I was gonna get you a cake,

but all the stores were closed

this morning.

Why did you do this, Josh?

It's your birthday.

Yeah, but you know

we don't celebrate birthdays

and...

I don't like surprises.

Well, I mean,

I just thought that...

You thought what?

Why the f*** would I celebrate

one year closer to dying?

- You don't know that.

- Neither do you.

Oh, no.

What the f*** is that, man?

Sticks and bones.

Holy sh*t.

Spooky.

Hey, guys,

maybe we should just...

Maybe we should just what?

Look, look at this sh*t.

- Let's just go back.

- We're not going back.

Why not, man?

Skulls and bones in the middle

of the place, man.

- Get out of the f***ing car!

- What the f***?

- Just get out of my damn car!

- What the f***, man?

- Get out, you little punk!

- What's your problem?

F*** off! Just f*** off!

What's your problem, man?

Gentry, what the f***

are you doing?

They are dead weight.

You wanna find your f***ing

sister? Let's just go.

- I'm f***ing serious.

- F***.

- Wait for me.

- Come on. Keep walking.

I'm sorry.

- No. You were right.

- No, I wasn't.

Thank you.

It was really nice.

Hey, stop the car.

Stop the car! Just stop.

There's a river up ahead.

I should get out here.

If you move up and around it,

we can cut 'em off.

You sure?

Mmm-hmm.

All right.

Gentry?

Don't do anything

until I get there.

I won't.

Hurry up.

- Hurry.

I miss ice cream the most.

- What flavor?

Well, that's easy. Mint chocolate chip.

What about you?

I'd settle for a warm shower.

We're almost there.

We're not coming back.

Well, he's not. You...

I don't really

care if you do or not.

Hey, look. Just don't hurt

her. I'll come back.

I'll walk the line.

Walk the line?

You don't get it, do you?

I am the line.

Jessie, get up

and go to the car.

No! He stays.

Caleb, please.

He didn't take me. I left.

I left.

Just like him.

Oh.

Where did you get this, gentry?

How many?

All of them.

Jessie, get up

and go to the car.

Uh-uh.

Jessie, go!

No.

Gentry, stop. I'll do it.

You don't kill people.

Caleb!

Caleb!

No!

Maybe there is no god,

like they say.

I figure

it's like mother nature.

We really don't make

much difference to her.

We're here for a while

and then we're gone.

At first there were a lot

of us in the world.

Now, there's a lot less.

And tomorrow? Who knows?

Maybe there won't be a tomorrow.

That doesn't mean I can't hope.
