INT. ROOM

David and Detective Cole sit across from each other

DETECTIVE COLE:

Would you like anything to drink?

DAVID:

No not at the moment

DETECTIVE COLE:

Are you comfy?... is it too hot in

here? Should I turn up the AC...? DAVID laughs to himself

DAVID:

I've told you I'm good... why am I

here anyway

DETECTIVE COLE:

Just want to ask some questions

about your relationship with your wife

DAVID Wait..wait..wait...you...think I

killed my wife?

DETECTIVE COLE:

just trying to rule you out as a

suspect

DAVID:

What do you wanna know?

DETECTIVE COLE Where were you at 7:30 pm on

November 24th

DAVID:

I was in the garage smoking

DETECTIVE COLE:

Do you usually smoke in the garage?

DAVID:

Well, my wife never liked when I

smoked inside... so I go out there when I need to?

DETECTIVE COLE:

How often do you go to your garage?

DAVID:

I usually, only go out there when

I'm stressed and need to clear my mind

DETECTIVE COLE:

Were you stressed that night?

DAVID DETECTIVE COLE DAVID

Yeah

We've just been fighting a lot

DETECTIVE COLE Fighting about what?

DAVID Everything

DETECTIVE COLE Money, jobs what?

DAVID:

I just got laid off and we didn't

have enough money to afford the house anymore.

DETECTIVE COLE:

I'm sorry to hear that... I can't

imagine how she reacted to the news

DAVID:

she wasn't too happy that we were

about to lose everything

DETECTIVE COLE How long have you guys been

together?

DAVID About 2 years

DETECTIVE COLE:

My wife and I have been married

for 3 years now

DAVID:

she was my whole world... she saved

my life so many times

DETECTIVE COLE sounds like she was special

DAVID Best girl out there

DETECTIVE COLE:

How long did you stay in the

garage?

DAVID:

About an hour maybe more... I got

distracted

DETECTIVE COLE:

DAVID I don't remember

DETECTIVE COLE You don't remember?

DAVID:

I... Yeah I don't remember

DETECTIVE COLE:

Would you like to take a break

before we continue? Can I get you anything to drink?

DAVID:

Sure I'll take a water

Detective cole exits

David is sitting quietly tapping his fingers on the table and his legs on the floor

INT. ROOM

Detective Cole enters and hands David water before sitting back down

DETECTIVE COLE Did you have enough time to

remember what you got distracted by?

DAVID:

I'm telling you I honestly forgot

DETECTIVE COLE:

what did you do next? David sits up and clears his throat

I went back inside to help finish

DETECTIVE COLE What was for dinner?

DAVID:

I think it was some kind of creamy

chicken and vegetables. It was the first time she ever made it..but it was amazing

DAVID (CONT'D)

My wife was a talented cook and an

even better person.

DETECTIVE COLE How was dinner?

DAVID:

It was going great until

DETECTIVE COLE What question?

David does not respond

DETECTIVE COLE what was the question?

DAVID:

She asked if I was having an

affair.

DETECTIVE COLE:

David stares at the ceiling and does not respond

DETECTIVE COLE (CONT'D) You didn't answer my question,

David clears his throat

How did she take the news?

DAVID Not great

DETECTIVE COLE Why do you say that?

DAVID:

She started crying and telling me

how much of a piece of sh*t I was. and how she wishes that she never met me

DETECTIVE COLE:

That must have been hard to hear

DAVID:

...I tried to get her to stop but

she wouldn't listen

DETECTIVE COLE:

Did it escalate past yelling?

DAVID:

She threw her f***ing fork at me

and said that she was going to kill me if I didn't leave

DETECTIVE COLE How did that make you feel?

DAVID:

I.... I... I don't know

DETECTIVE COLE:

What do you mean you don't know?

DAVID:

I'm saying...I don't...

DETECTIVE COLE You don't what?

David slams the table and stands up

DAVID:

I don't f***ing know

Detective Cole stands up

DETECTIVE COLE:

DETECTIVE COLE David, please sit back down

David sits back down slowly and starts crying

DAVID:

I just need a moment

David starts to cry and mumble to himself

DAVID (CONT'D) I'm sorry for the outburst

DETECTIVE COLE:

I understand that this is a

difficult topic for you

DAVID It's just...

DETECTIVE COLE It's just what?

DAVID:

It's just that I can't control my

anger sometimes

DETECTIVE COLE:

Is that what happened that night

with your wife? Did you lose control of your anger?

DAVID:

I just wanted her to stop...

David starts to cry

Stop what? David does not respond

DETECTIVE David, what did you

stop?

DAVID stop yelling at me.

DETECTIVE Did you try to calm

DETECTIVE:

COLE:

COLE (CONT'D) want her to

COLE:

DAVID:

I tried but she wouldn't listen...

DETECTIVE COLE:

Did you lose your temper when you

saw that she was not going to calm down anytime soon?

DAVID:

I... didn't... mean...to.. it was

an accident...I just wanted her to stop

DETECTIVE COLE What was an accident?

DAVID I didn't know...

DETECTIVE COLE David, what happened?

David starts rambling

DAVID:

I grabbed her... started yelling at

her and threw her across the room, and I should have stopped then but I lost control

DETECTIVE COLE:

What do you mean you lost control?

DAVID:

I started punching her...and

punching her..... and punching her...she was begging me to stop and she kept saying how sorry she was...

DAVID (CONT'D)

I... didn't mean to... I just

wanted her to stop

DETECTIVE COLE:

David, you are under arrest for the

murder of your wife...can you please stand up for me and place your hands behind your back.

Detective Cole handcuffs David and starts to read him his rights

DETECTIVE COLE (CONT'D) Anything you say can be used

against you in a court of law...

DAVID:

I'm so sorry... I loved my wife...

It was an accident
