model.

Narrator #1:
And didn’t Silkworm and Miss Spider open their own factory to

make silk stockings?

James:
Yes they’re doing quite well. Oh and Glowworm became the light

inside the torch of the Statue of Liberty. It’s saved New York quite a bit on

their electricity bill.

Narrator #1:
And Grasshopper of course is a member of the New York

Symphony Orchestra.

James:
And Ladybug became quite famous when a nursery rhyme was

written about her.

Narrator #2:
Ah yes I know the one. It starts, “Ladybird, ladybird, fly

away home, Your house is on fire…”

Narrator #1:
Quite morbid.

James:
Oh it’s all a bit of a joke. In actual fact she married the Fire Chief!

Narrator #2:
But James…what about you? And the Giant Peach?

James:
I’ve never left that magnificent Peach. Of course the fruit is all gone,

made into delicious sherbert before it went rotten and given to all the

children in Central Park. Now it’s just the stone that’s left.

Narrator #2:
And where is that?

James:
Why here in Central Park of course. It’s a famous house now, where

all the children come to visit me everyday.

Narrator #1:
So you aren’t lonely anymore James?

James:
Never! I’ve always a playmate. And of course my insect friends come

to visit all the time. (Pause) May I ask you something now?

Narrator #1:
Of course!

James:
What made you decide to tell my story?

Narrator #1:
(holds out a peach.) Well it all started when my friend here

stated that this fantastic piece of fruit was “just a peach”…

(The three friends laugh. The music swells, and the actors take their curtain

call.)
