How convenient for you

521

00:
58:57,393 -- 00:59:00,384

Because you love her,

I will forgive you for that

522

00:
59:00,463 -- 00:59:03,660

Once You say that again,

and we're not brothers

523

00:
59:07,136 -- 00:59:09,161

Once!

524

00:
59:13,109 -- 00:59:15,668

You know you can't make her happy

525

00:
59:15,744 -- 00:59:17,610

I'm gonna try

526

00:
59:20,115 -- 00:59:21,708

You will fail

527

00:
59:36,131 -- 00:59:38,066

I'll be leaving today

528

00:
59:48,811 -- 00:59:51,109

I wish you both all the best

Good luck

531

01:
00:31,686 -- 01:00:34,780

September 7, 1915

532

01:
00:34,856 -- 01:00:36,790

Dearest Mother:

533

01:
00:36,858 -- 01:00:41,454

I think I may have found

my place in this world

534

01:
00:41,529 -- 01:00:45,966

Helena is a city

turned modern overnight

535

01:
00:46,034 -- 01:00:49,094

bursting with all the energy

and vitality

536

01:
00:49,170 -- 01:00:51,138

of our times

537

01:
00:51,206 -- 01:00:53,606

I feel alive here

538

01:
01:01,883 -- 01:01:03,783

There is much opportunity

for anyone

539

01:
01:03,852 -- 01:01:06,821

willing to dedicate himself

to his labors

540

01:
01:06,888 -- 01:01:11,154

Already, I have acquired a reputation

for honesty and fair dealing

541

01:
01:11,226 -- 01:01:16,630

and I am pleased to call some of

Helena's most influential citizens

542

01:
01:16,698 -- 01:01:18,665

my friends

543

01:
01:18,733 -- 01:01:22,829

They are determined to see

this city grow, as am I

544

01:
01:22,904 -- 01:01:25,372

We're proud of you

545

01:
01:27,408 -- 01:01:30,845

Mother, thank you

for your kind letter

546

01:
01:30,912 -- 01:01:32,504

You knew my hopes

547

01:
01:32,580 -- 01:01:37,175

That you understand my disappointment

is a great comfort to me

548

01:
01:38,753 -- 01:01:42,518

Every night I pray for the grace

to forgive Tristan

549

01:
01:43,591 -- 01:01:45,524

I know you understand

550

01:
01:45,593 -- 01:01:48,027

Your loving son, Alfred

551

01:
02:45,486 -- 01:02:46,020

Quit it!

552

01:
02:46,020 -- 01:02:47,078

Quit it!

553

01:
03:03,337 -- 01:03:04,769

Goddamn it!

554

01:
03:41,707 -- 01:03:45,804

If we have a boy,

I'd like to call him Samuel

555

01:
03:47,047 -- 01:03:49,811

And if it's a girl, Isabel

556

01:
03:52,886 -- 01:03:55,649

I'll still love you

557

01:
03:55,721 -- 01:03:59,316

You'll tolerate me

because of how much I love you

558

01:
04:13,406 -- 01:04:14,839

Nothing

559

01:
04:28,421 -- 01:04:31,185

I heard from your mother

560

01:
04:31,257 -- 01:04:35,421

She says Alfred has hooked up

with those damn O'Banion brothers

561

01:
04:35,495 -- 01:04:41,331

- He's doing well

- Alfred's gonna do well wherever he is

562

01:
04:41,399 -- 01:04:44,927

- Except here with us

- That's my fault

563

01:
04:45,004 -- 01:04:48,735

- I didn't say that

- Couldn't save Samuel either, could I?

564

01:
04:48,808 -- 01:04:51,902

Don't you dare say that

That was in God's hands

565

01:
04:53,945 -- 01:04:55,537

Was it?

566

01:
04:57,617 -- 01:05:01,383

Colonel! Lost a couple calves

near Camas Canyon

567

01:
05:01,454 -- 01:05:03,887

- Might be a grizzly

- My grizzly?

568

01:
05:19,472 -- 01:05:22,565

- You take him, Tristan

- Damn right I will

569

01:
05:41,993 -- 01:05:46,953

I don't know why Tristan

did not kill that damn old bear

570

01:
05:47,832 -- 01:05:49,322

The Old Ones say:

571

01:
05:49,401 -- 01:05:51,461

"When a man and an animal

572

01:
05:51,537 -- 01:05:53,629

have spilled each other's blood

573

01:
05:53,706 -- 01:05:55,935

they become one '"

574

01:
05:57,509 -- 01:05:57,709

I said four beers,

Mr. Sachtleben

575

01:
05:57,709 -- 01:06:00,303

I said four beers,

Mr. Sachtleben

576

01:
06:00,378 -- 01:06:02,279

And I said no Indians

577

01:
06:05,217 -- 01:06:09,176

- He's quite civilized, I assure you

- Yeah?

578

01:
06:09,254 -- 01:06:11,119

- Give him a beer

- Stay out of it

579

01:
06:11,190 -- 01:06:13,852

- My father said four

- He heard me

580

01:
06:13,926 -- 01:06:15,916

We're about to reach an understanding

581

01:
06:15,994 -- 01:06:18,121

Just give him a goddamn beer!

582

01:
06:18,196 -- 01:06:20,960

Stay out of it!

583

01:
06:21,032 -- 01:06:23,967

Damn you

You're a damn fool

584

01:
06:24,035 -- 01:06:26,833

You're spoiling for a fight

with a man who outweighs you

585

01:
06:26,905 -- 01:06:30,204

As we speak, he's searching

for some kind of a weapon

586

01:
06:30,275 -- 01:06:31,798

Isn't that right?

587

01:
06:31,876 -- 01:06:35,141

To split your stupid skull

and kill you and good riddance

588

01:
06:35,213 -- 01:06:36,646

Leave it!

589

01:
06:37,716 -- 01:06:41,277

- Yes, sir?

- I want four beers, now

590

01:
06:43,555 -- 01:06:47,389

The lousy owner says

he doesn't want to serve Indians

591

01:
06:51,630 -- 01:06:53,393

Get back

592

01:
06:54,499 -- 01:06:56,660

Do you see this man?

593

01:
06:56,735 -- 01:07:01,000

Do you?

His name is One Stab

594

01:
07:01,071 -- 01:07:05,201

He's a venerated elder of the Cree and has

counted coup on hundreds of his enemies

595

01:
07:05,276 -- 01:07:08,302

He is our friend

He's thirsty

596

01:
07:35,105 -- 01:07:40,544

I think it was the bear's voice

he heard deep inside him

597

01:
07:40,611 -- 01:07:44,604

growling low

of dark, secret places

598

01:
09:29,553 -- 01:09:32,487

Were you going to say good-bye?

599

01:
09:43,900 -- 01:09:45,664

How long will you be gone?

600

01:
09:47,236 -- 01:09:49,796

Not long

A few months

601

01:
09:55,579 -- 01:09:58,172

I can make it better for you

602

01:
10:04,754 -- 01:10:06,415

If we'd had a child

603

01:
10:10,259 -- 01:10:13,160

or if I were pregnant,

would you still go?

604

01:
10:16,098 -- 01:10:17,531

Yes

605

01:
10:20,636 -- 01:10:22,536

Just give me a chance

606

01:
10:22,605 -- 01:10:24,038

Don't do that

607

01:
10:30,812 -- 01:10:32,747

Look at me

608

01:
10:37,619 -- 01:10:39,884

Please, look at me

609

01:
10:52,802 -- 01:10:54,735

I'll wait for you

610

01:
10:56,471 -- 01:10:58,463

However long it takes

611

01:
11:03,513 -- 01:11:06,277

I'll wait for you forever

612

01:
11:25,667 -- 01:11:28,102

Will he come back?

613

01:
11:28,169 -- 01:11:30,967

I don't know I don't know

614

01:
11:36,511 -- 01:11:38,911

Stab says yes

615

01:
12:19,220 -- 01:12:21,518

April 20, 1918

616

01:
12:21,590 -- 01:12:23,648

Dear Tristan:

617

01:
12:23,724 -- 01:12:26,819

It has been months now,

and still no word

618

01:
12:28,729 -- 01:12:30,493

The only sign

that you are alive

619

01:
12:30,564 -- 01:12:35,332

is a tattered parcel that arrived today

from New Guinea

620

01:
12:35,403 -- 01:12:36,995

covered with strange writing
