INTERVIEWER:
( to audience )
...The Covid-19 pandemic started in December of 2019.
We were unaware of the impact it would have across
the planet. Today, we will be speaking with Bridger
Keane, a 22 year old college student who currently has
outlasted the virus.
INTERVIEWER:
( to Bridger )
...Welcome Bridger, thanks for coming.
BRIDGER:
( to interviewer )
...I appreciate it, thanks for having me.
INTERVIEWER:
( to Bridger )
...When did you find out Covid-19 was present?
BRIDGER:
( to interviewer )
...Back in early 2020, it was the middle of the week and
I had just gotten out of class. I returned home and
was in the kitchen when my Mom called me. That's
when I had first heard of Covid-19.
INTERVIEWER:
( to Bridger )
...Did that come as a shock to you? Did it cause you to
change anything?
BRIDGER:
( to interviewer )
...It definitely did. It never crossed my mind that
something like this would happen. And yes, I did
change the way I went about, well, life. It forced me
to really think about what my habits are and how I
could avoid contracting Covid and spreading it to
other people, especially close family.
INTERVIEWER:
( to Bridger )
...And that seems like something most of the world is
concerned about.
BRIDGER:
( to interviewer )
...Its got to be. Family is something everyone has in
common regardless of politics and status and should
be treated with the utmost respect.
INTERVIEWER:
( to Bridger )
...Is family something you hold at large for who you are
now?
BRIDGER:
( to interviewer )
...One hundred percent. They are like a construction
crew. They built my foundation and gave me the
materials to finish building who I am as a person.
INTERVIEWER:
( to Bridger )
...Skip forward a year proceeding the initial pandemic. After the frantic period of Covid-19, how has your life changed?
BRIDGER:
( to interviewer )
...Well, I always was an extrovert. After all the time
spent staying away from people trying not to
contract it and/or spread it, I found myself growing
the introvert side of myself. I allowed me to really
focus on my classes and myself for the future.
INTERVIEWER:
( to Bridger )
...It seems like you created a positive outlet from the
situation.
BRIDGER:
( to interviewer )
...More than just a positive outlet. All the alone time really allowed me to think about everything. It gave me the time I needed to find the path I want to take. Previously I was pretty lost as of what I want to do with my life or how to get there.
INTERVEIWER:
( to Bridger )
...I'd like to think others have chosen to self reflect like you. Were there any major challenges inside your life that was caused by the pandemic?
BRIDGER:
( to interviewer )
...Without a doubt. Seeing my grandparents was difficult. I would see them every or every other month. It was about a year and 2 months until I saw them.
INTERVIEWER:
( to Bridger )
...Seems like you have a good relationship with them. That must've been difficult for you.
BRIDGER:
( to interviewer )
...It was, but I'm pretty positive that everyone with
family or a relative is in the same situation.
INTERVIEWER:
( to Bridger )
...That could very well be true for many people. One last question before you go.
BRIDGER:
( to interviewer )
...Of course.
INTERVIEWER:
( to Bridger )
...What is the number one piece of advice you would give to your past self or future people who could possibly go through something similar like this pandemic again?
BRIDGER:
( to interviewer )
...Hmm... be selfless and selfish at the same time.
INTERVIEWER:
( to Bridger )
...What specifically would that entitle?
BRIDGER:
( to interviewer )
...Be selfless in the sense of thinking about others instead of just yourself. Help others when its needed. Provide as a human to another human. But take care of yourself. Get your own mental mindset right. Take the time YOU need to better yourself so you can get where YOU want to be. Take care of yourself and treat others with the respect you wish to be treated with.
INTERVIEWER:
( to Bridger )
...That is a wise piece of advice from such a young soul. Thank you again for coming onto the show and sharing your experiences with us. I look forward to our next meeting.
BRIDGER:
( to interviewer )
...Thank you, anytime. I'm looking forward to it as well.
INTERVIEWER:
( to audience )
...This was the insight of the young person from the next generation of what it was like through the Covid-19 pandemic. Thank you all for watching. And until next time, this is Scott Pelley signing off. Have a good night.
