National Geographic: Dinosaur Hunters Page #5

our own future
is encoded in these silent
remnants of the past.
The only real knowledge
we have of our distant
biological past
is from the fossil record.
And it gives us
a sense of who we are
and where we sit in the world
and what that world
might become.
Time is the hardest
rock to pierce,
and the story of life,
with its infinite changes,
is the greatest mystery
we have.
But the expedition
has been blessed with luck.
They've gazed into the past
and brought the violent
and tender world
of the Oviraptor
that much closer to our own.
