Salt of the Earth Page #4

Synopsis: Based on an actual strike against the Empire Zinc Mine in New Mexico, the film deals with the prejudice against the Mexican-American workers, who struck to attain wage parity with Anglo workers in other mines and to be treated with dignity by the bosses. In the end, the greatest victory for the workers and their families is the realization that prejudice and poor treatment are conditions that are not always imposed by outside forces.

this morning.

00:
28: 49,800 - 00: 28: 52,920

When they saw the picket

they turned

00:
28: 54,160 - 00: 28: 56,080

Not seem so scary.

00:
28: 56.240 - 00: 28: 59.720

Mr. Hartwell, some

They are brave men.

00:
28: 59.880 - 00: 29: 02.080

Especially the leader

the picket line.

00:
29: 02.240 - 00: 29: 03.880

How is it called?

00:
29: 04.040 - 00: 29: 05.640

Raymon, or something.

00:
29: 05.800 - 00: 29: 07.880

Yes, I know him.

00:
29: 17,160 - 00: 29: 18,920

This is the main picket.

00:
29: 19,400 - 00: 29: 21,880

They have another on secondary road ...

00:
29: 22,080 - 00: 29: 24,120

... and patrol the area.

00:
29: 24,280 - 00: 29: 26,120

The land is in the company.

00:
29: 26,280 - 00: 29: 28.120

Why not throw them?

00:
29: 28.480 - 00: 29: 30.960

Everything is of the company,

Mr. Hartwell.

00:
29: 31,280 - 00: 29: 33.480

The shop houses ...

00:
29: 33,680 - 00: 29: 34.960

... everything.

00:
29: 35.160 - 00: 29: 37,160

Where would miss them?

00:
29: 37.320 - 00: 29: 39.240

And who would?

00:
29: 39.560 - 00: 29: 42,800

Do we let go?

Sooner or later.

00:
29: 42.960 - 00: 29: 46,080

Just want to impress

with his power.

00:
29: 46.240 - 00: 29: 48,640

Why do not you let go

these gentlemen?

00:
29: 48,800 - 00: 29: 50,600

Do you know who will

in that car?

00:
29: 50.760 - 00: 29: 53.080

The cashier brings us

Moscow gold.

00:
29: 53,240 - 00: 29: 56.160

No, it's the president

of the company.

00:
29: 56.320 - 00: 29: 58.920

Comes to appoint Jenkins

Managing Director

00:
29: 59.080 - 00: 30: 00.920

Come on, let him go.

00:
30: 01.360 - 00: 30: 04.400

How childish!

They are like children

00:
30: 04.960 - 00: 30: 08.280

Sometimes you have to pamper them,

... other must scold

00:
30: 08.480 - 00: 30: 12,040

... and others have to punish them without eating.

00:
30: 12,200 - 00: 30: 14,200

Here comes my saying.

00:
30: 14,360 - 00: 30: 15,840

It is quite a character.

00:
30: 16,000 - 00: 30: 19.120

He claims that his grandfather

owned land mine.

00:
30: 20,280 - 00: 30: 22,320

Want to go to your office

Mr. Alexander?

00:
30: 22,480 - 00: 30: 25,280

Sure, I have not stopped

for coffee.

00:
30: 25.440 - 00: 30: 27.880

To that we can invite.

No thanks.

00:
30: 28,840 - 00: 30: 31,200

Men want to know who is

this gentleman.

00:
30: 31,360 - 00: 30: 34,240

- It is not his business

- Leave it, it's not a secret.

00:
30: 34,400 - 00: 30: 37.240

My name is Hartwell,

work in the offices of this.

00:
30: 37,400 - 00: 30: 40.280

- In Delaware?

- No, in New York.

00:
30: 40,720 - 00: 30: 43.640

By any chance are you

the president of the company?

00:
30: 43,800 - 00: 30: 44.960

- no

- What a shame.

00:
30: 45.120 - 00: 30: 47,520

The man always wanted

see President

00:
30: 47.680 - 00: 30: 49.680

He could resolve the strike.

00:
30: 49,840 - 00: 30: 51.280

Is that possible?

00:
30: 51.440 - 00: 30: 53,800

Yes, negotiating.

00:
30: 54.120 - 00: 30: 56.360

Is a union spokesperson?

00:
30: 56.560 - 00: 30: 58.240

Not exactly.

00:
30: 58,600 - 00: 31: 00.360

I wish it were.

00:
31: 00.640 - 00: 31: 03.920

Know more of mines

puppets with whom we associate.

00:
31: 04.080 - 00: 31: 06.960

Seriously, I've seen

your personal record.

00:
31: 07.160 - 00: 31: 10,800

I was going to promote you to foreman

when the strike began.

00:
31: 11,160 - 00: 31: 13,680

You had future in the company.

00:
31: 13,920 - 00: 31: 16,800

You've been swept by these red ...

00:
31: 16,960 - 00: 31: 18,800

... but you will betray.

00:
31: 19,160 - 00: 31: 21,160

When awaken, Ray?

00:
31: 22.720 - 00: 31: 24,480

Your name is Ray, no?

00:
31: 25,360 - 00: 31: 27,200

Call me Quintero.

00:
31: 27,600 - 00: 31: 29,480

Mr. Quintero.

00:
31: 32,000 - 00: 31: 34.880

Are we allowed to pass or I

to call the sheriff?

00:
31: 36.280 - 00: 31: 38.280

Nothing stops him.

00:
31: 43.080 - 00: 31: 45.840

I was wrong, do not want to

Jenkins CEO.

00:
31: 46,000 - 00: 31: 47.680

I want my!

00:
31: 52.840 - 00: 31: 55.080

You should have heard

to that liar.

00:
31: 55.240 - 00: 31: 57,600

Foreman said he would appoint me.

00:
31: 58.760 - 00: 32: 01.000

- What's the matter?

- It's nothing

00:
32: 01.320 - 00: 32: 02.880

just a cramp.

00:
32: 03.280 - 00: 32: 05.240

Dad, come here!

00:
32: 05.560 - 00: 32: 07.680

What makes Luis here?

00:
32: 07.840 - 00: 32: 09.680

Another time playing hooky?

00:
32: 13,880 - 00: 32: 15,360

Come back here!

00:
32: 15,520 - 00: 32: 17,960

We have seen two scabs

00:
32: 18,120 - 00: 32: 20,120

They have hidden there.

00:
32: 27,560 - 00: 32: 30,200

Wait, fellas.

You three, accompany me.

00:
32: 30,360 - 00: 32: 32,160

The others follow

in line.

00:
32: 35.480 - 00: 32: 37.480

Luis, come back!

00:
33: 04.680 - 00: 33: 06.480

They go by.

00:
33: 38.120 - 00: 33: 40,080

Ramon, listen,

for God's sake.

00:
33: 40,240 - 00: 33: 41,480

You!

00:
33: 41.680 - 00: 33: 43,800

I would have expected from an Anglo.

00:
33: 43.960 - 00: 33: 45,560

I needed the job.

00:
33: 45.720 - 00: 33: 46.960

You, Judas!

00:
33: 47.120 - 00: 33: 48.160

leech

00:
33: 48.320 - 00: 33: 49.480

It was for my kids!

00:
33: 53.040 - 00: 33: 54.680

Do not eat enough.

00:
33: 54.840 - 00: 33: 57.040

Do you think mine itself?

Dirty Rat.

00:
33: 57,200 - 00: 34: 00.480

I know I did wrong

but do not hurt me.

00:
34: 01.600 - 00: 34: 04.120

Do you think I'm going to hit you?

00:
34: 05.480 - 00: 34: 08.120

I would not mess with you hands.

00:
34: 23,920 - 00: 34: 26.960

There comes a child,

warns women, fast!

00:
34: 33,280 - 00: 34: 34,720

Why are we stopping?

00:
34: 35.960 - 00: 34: 39.680

Tell us why agrediste

that boy.

00:
34: 40,200 - 00: 34: 41.840

That's a lie.

00:
34: 44.360 - 00: 34: 46.960

Do not talk to

a white.

00:
34: 48.720 - 00: 34: 51.480

Go back and then produce a

blanket to move it.

00:
34: 54.440 - 00: 34: 58.160

Did not you say this torero

had much stamina?

00:
34: 58.440 - 00: 34: 59.880

No one would say now.

00:
35: 00.040 - 00: 35: 01.960

The chile gives

much energy.

00:
35: 04,000 - 00: 35: 08,200

Like as it prepares

your "tiny" Pancho?

00:
35: 11,680 - 00: 35: 14,640

We need a doctor soon,

that woman will give birth

00:
35: 15,280 - 00: 35: 17,720

Do you take me for the driver

an ambulance?

00:
35: 18,120 - 00: 35: 20,120

Notify your physician of the company.

00:
35: 20,280 - 00: 35: 22,160

Nobody here has a car.

00:
35: 22,400 - 00: 35: 25,800

The company doctor will not attend

Picket anyone.

00:
35: 35,200 - 00: 35: 38.520

No time to take her home,

Put it in there

00:
35: 46.480 - 00: 35: 49.480

Raise your head Pancho,

that's no way to sit.

00:
35: 51.480 - 00: 35: 54,480

Do not you go out with

your pigs.

00:
35: 54.640 - 00: 35: 56.360

You like what you have searched.

00:
35: 56.760 - 00: 35: 58.120

OMG!
