(MAN PANTING)

(NATIVES YELLING)

(BEAST RISES UP OUT OF BRUSH IN FRONT OF CLOAKED AND VEILED MAN FLEEING FROM NATIVES-MAN YELLS-BEAT ROARS-MAN STUNS BEAST-SECOND MAN APPEARS AS BEAST FALLS TO GROUND-SECOND MAN TAKES OFF HIS VEIL)

BONES:
Nailed it, man! That was our

ride! You just stunned our ride!

KIRK:
Oh, great.

(NATIVE YELLS-KIRK GLANCES BEHIND HIM AND DASHES OFF)

KIRK:
Run!

(NATIVES YELL AS THEY CHASE AFTER THEM)

BONES:
What the world did you take?

KIRK:
I have no idea,

but they were bowing to it.

-Kirk to Shuttle One.

Locals are out of the kill zone.

You are clear. Repeat.

Spock, get in there, neutralize the

volcano and let's get out of here.

(RUMBLING AS CAMERA PANS UP TO REVEAL A VOLCANO ABOUT TO ERUPT-SCENE SWITCHES TO A SHUTTLE FLYING THROUGH THE SMOKE ABOVESULU IN COCKPIT OF SHUTTLE TAKES OFF SEATBELT AND STAND UP)

SULU:
We have to do this now!

I told the Captain

the shuttle wasn't built

for this kind of heat.

SPOCK(IN SHUTTLE DRESSED IN HEAT PROOF SUIT): Captain, did the indigenous

life forms see you?

KIRK(STILL RUNNING THROUGH RED WOODS): No, Mr. Spock, they did not.

SPOCK:
The Prime Directive clearly states

there can be no interference

with the internal development

of alien civilizations.

KIRK:
I know what it says!

Which is why I'm running

through the jungle wearing a disguise!

Now drop off your super ice cube

and let's go! Kirk out!

UHURA:
(FINISHED DRESSING SPOCK) You're good.

SULU:
(COMING OVER TO SPOCK WHO HAS JUST OPENED A CASE WITH THE VOLCANO STOPPER INSIDE) If we're gonna do this,

we've got to do it now!

This ash is killing our coils.

UHURA:
(PUTTING SPOCK'S HELMET ON): You sure you don't want me

to go instead?

SPOCK:
That would be highly illogical

as I am already outfitted...

UHURA:
Spock, I was kidding. You got this.

SULU:
(FROM BACK IN COCKPIT) Guys! We have to go! Now!

(SCENE SWITCHES BACK TO MEN IN FORREST WHO ARE STILL RUNNING FROM THE YELLING NATIVES WHO BEGIN TO THROW SPEARS AT THEM)

BONES:
They're trying to kill us!

They're trying to kill us, Jim!

UHURA:
(TO SPOCK BEFORE SHE LEAVES AND GOES TO COCKPIT TO DROP HIM INTO VOLCANO) I'll see you in 90 seconds.

SULU:
(TO UHURA) Do it, do it!

(THEY DROP SPOCK DOWN INTO VOLCANO FULL OF SPARKS AND FLAMES AND ORANGE-RED LIGHT-LOWERING HIM TOWARD SOME ROCKS NEAR THE RIM)

SHIPS AUTOMATED MALE VOICE: Prerequisite change, 2-7-3…

(SHIP'S ENGINE IS OVERHEATING)

SULU:
I can't hold this position.

Spock, I've got to pull you back up.

SPOCK:
Negative. This is our only

chance to save this species.

If this volcano erupts, the planet dies.

(SOMETHING ON THE SHIP EXPLODES AND THE SHIP WOBBLES BEFORE REGAINING BALANCE)

SULU:
Pull him back up. Now!

(UHURA PULLS LEVER AND SHIP BEGINS TO RISE - SPOCK IS BEING PULLED UP WHEN THE CABLE SNAPS AND HE FALLS TO THE ROCKSHE LOSES HIS GRIP ON THE CASE AND BOTH BOUNCE AROUND A BIT-CASE COMES OPEN)

UHURA:
Spock, are you okay?

(SPOCK GETS TO HIS FEET- HE IS ON A SMALL ISLAND OF ROCK IN THE MIDDLE OF A SEA OF LAVA)

SPOCK:
I am,surprisingly, alive. Stand by.

UHURA(TO SULU):
We have to get him back.

I'll suit up. I'm gonna go down.

SULU:
We have to abandon the shuttle.

- We can't just leave him, Sulu!

- We don't have a choice!Uhura, I'm sorry.

UHURA(TO SPOCK AS SHUTTLE FLIES UP AND AWAY FROM VOLCANO) Spock, we're going back to the Enterprise.

We'll get you out of there.

(SULU TAKES OFF HIS OUTER UNIFORM TO REVEAL SWIM SUIT BELOW AND TALKS TO KIRK OVER THE COM)
