MIKKI:

Ok. Goodnight Uncle Mase. Thank you for everything.

She gets up and comes to hug him. They embrace tightly.

MASON:

You’re welcome sweetie. Sleep tight. Love you.

MIKKI:

Love you too.

Mikki heads through the sliding glass door and after a few moments turns the lights out. Mason sits and looks out at the ocean. He takes a drink of his beer and then reaches over to grab his phone on the table next to him. He opens his texts and we see he has sent one to Meghan. Mason has kept Meghan posted we see through the thread.

MASON (TEXT)

Hey love. We’re back at the hotel. Gonna sit and stare at the ocean for a while, then get to bed. Flight leaves Honolulu at 10:15 tomorrow. If I don’t talk to you before, I’ll let you know when we land. Love you Sissy.

That was about an hour prior to now. No response. Mason clicks his phone off. He clicks it back on and gets on to Facebook. He opens a person search, Nicole Steinham. A picture pops up of a woman in her later 30’s, brunette. Mason selects her profile and starts scrolling through pictures. The conversation on the plane obviously stirred something in him. He winds up on a picture of Nicole with another man. He looks at the date, one month ago. He clicks his phone off. He clicks it back on. He clicks the Facebook app again, and enters a one word post, “Later.” He exits out and removes the app from his phone. Mason finishes the rest of his beer in one tip of the bottle and gets up to go inside. He disappears into the black of the hotel room and slides the door closed. Moon and ocean can be seen in the reflection of the glass door.

22 - INT. - TOKYO AIRPORT - DAY

Fade in to the Tokyo Airport. From above we zoom down to see lots of unfamiliar. The feeling is clear, we are in another place. Language, signs, the sounds, the people, Mikki is excited and slightly overwhelmed. Mason has his hair up in a bun, this is the first we’ve seen it up. His face is already showing stubble and his general appearance is noticeably changing but the direction is unclear. As he interacts with everyone, he carries the watchful eye of a bodyguard and seems slightly less playful. As he moves around with Mikki at his side, she is always within arms reach and is fully aware of exactly where she is. They are very pointedly headed to the nearest phone upon leaving their gate. Blurry, we see behind them a man walk off a plane in all black with the tengu mask. This figure should be hardly noticeable throughout all scenes. They find a phone and we see Mason has a credit card sized item and his phone and charger in his hand. He picks up the receiver and dials what seems like a lot of numbers.

MEGHAN:

This is Megan, how can I help you?

MASON:

Hey Meg. Aww, I miss you.

MEGHAN:

Mase! Oh my God, is everything going okay? Where are you guys, where’s Mikki?

Meghan is extremely excited. Mason laughs. We see a man that is beginning to work very hard to try to control his environment.

MASON:

Ya, ya, everything’s fine love. Mikki’s right here, we’re in the Tokyo airport, we’re gonna work our way out of this airport and get to our hotel, probably shower, or just clean up. And then I don’t know. But here’s Mikki alright…?

MIKKI:

Hi Mom.

Mikki is suddenly, and only slightly noticeably sad. She will perk up upon hearing her mother’s voice though.

MEGHAN:

Hi baby girl! Oh I miss you so much! Oh my gosh! I told everyone at work that if you called I was gonna drop whatever I’m doing. How are you? Are you having fun?! Uncle Mase hasn’t beaten anybody up yet has he?

MIKKI:

(Laughing) No, not yet. I’m good. This is awesome so far. We just got here and I’m kinda, crazy, like I don’t know, overwhelmed kinda.

MEGHAN:

Aww, Baby, you guys just get to the hotel and relax. Watch some tv, or I don’t know just stay around and get rested. The fun is just getting started I think, ok? Just call me when you can but don’t worry about your mama ok? I know you guys are on an adventure and there’s no one I trust you with more than your Uncle Mase, so yeah, I love you so much. So so much, and I miss you!

MIKKI:

I love you too, Mom. Tell Lee hi, and I miss him too. And ya, I think Uncle Mase wants to talk to you again. I miss you, I love you!

MEGHAN:

I love you baby girl! Miss you!

MASON:

A lady of few words.

MEGHAN:

Oh Mason, I miss her so much already. Look, work hard, get what you need, get done, come home to me. Or ship my baby home at least!

MASON:

It’ll be great Sis, don’t worry. Tokyo is just a little busy. Once we get on the trains and start heading south everything will slow down. It’ll be good, I promise. But look, Meg, we’re here now. Something’s different, and we won’t always have good phone opportunities and we may eventually run out of internet when get to where I think we’re going, but don’t worry, don’t ever worry, at least not about her. Don’t worry about what we’re eating or where we’re sleeping, we’ve got a great plan, and when we get to the unplanned stuff, we’ll walk it out. But the check-ins might be spotty for a while. But I’ll get you a souvenir or two. Hell, if Lee plays his cards right he might just end up with a new pair a chopsticks when I get back.

Mason hates checking in at all. The two laugh together for a moment.

MEGHAN:

Mason? You sound nervous. You okay?

MASON:

I’m okay. Focused is all. Don’t worry. K? We’re not gonna keep ya, we love you very much, miss you lots, and check on Delilah for me, k?

MEGHAN:

Okay, alright I love you guys, have fun.

MASON & MIKKI

Bye, love you Mom! Buh-bye! (Etc)

MEGHAN:

Bye babies! Love you!

Mason hangs up the phone and looks at Mikki.

MASON:

Lets get the hell outta here m’kay?

MIKKI:

Hey!

MASON:

Sorry, sorry. What d’ya say, lets boogie?

MIKKI:

Ya! Tokyo!

MASON:

Tokyo!

The two act like total nerds for a minute then turn to walk away from us. As we zoom out the scope and business of the airport overwhelms the senses and Mason and Mikki fade in to the crowd.

23 - INT. - HOTEL ROOM - DAY

Our two are on separate beds watching tv. Mikki is scrolling. Mason is clearly uninterested.

MIKKI:

Where did you get the name Delilah?

MASON:

Uh…I just liked the name. It’s from the Bible. Samson and Delilah. She was a shiesty little turd, just like mine. But something about her just won old Samson over. I love that story, I read a whole book about it when I was in jail one time. (Chuckles, oopsie)

MIKKI:

You were in jail?!?!?!

MASON:

Just for a few days. After one crazy night, yes, I ended up in the ol’ jailhouse.

MIKKI:

What did you do?!

MASON:

It doesn’t matter! The book, Delilah, the story!

They’re having a great time.

MASON:

Samson was this long haired super man, a hero to his people. But kinda a dufus and a rebel, but fearless. Then he meets Delilah and she’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen, and she’s powerful, rich, popular. And she convinced him that she was everything and he was nothing. Or maybe he convinced himself that she was everything, which made it possible for her convince him that He was nothing.

MIKKI:

Hm. … So you named the dog after her? She doesn’t sound very nice.
