My name is Acheron, I’ve been the senior partner of this firm for a little over a decade, I run this place with Gabriel, the grandson of Lord Gabriel, founder of the firm. We go by the name of Acheron, Gabriel & Co. You may be interested in knowing that most of our clients are extremely wealthy, as you can imagine they have the sort of money problem the average man or women won’t have. All our Lawyers abide by a code of loyalty, we look after each other. You see our clients are very wealthy, so we cater for their needs in a unique way. Not all indictable offences lead to a conviction; most people simply perish in hell. I’d like you to know as to date, no one has ever left us alive, no one.
Tania – Good morning, Mr Acheron.
Acheron – Morning Tania.
Tania – Mr Ahriman left a message for you.
Acheron – Thank you forward it to me please.
Voice message – Acheron this is Ahriman, it is regarding the settlement fee, the divorce papers came through, my ex-wife is asking for three million dollars in full, please get back to me as soon as possible.
Acheron – Tania did you forward the court documents to Mr Lauren as I asked you.
Tania – Yes, I did, he called to say that he will investigate the legal remedy and will arrive at your office tomorrow morning.
Acheron - Ok thank you, can you make me coffee please, no sugar, just milk.
Mr Lauren is a young intelligent Lawyer a barrister, hired by Acheron, Gabriel & Co as part of their legal research team and to represent their clients in court.
Abigor – Please follow me, Acheron has been expecting you, let me take your coat.
Lauren – Tania what happened to his eye.
Abigor’s left eye pupil is discoloured, it appears as white and grey, he also has a scar on his left cheek.
Tania – I’m not sure, he won’t say, he has been with the firm for many years, he keeps an eye on the place, makes sure everything is running smoothly. I think he lost his left eye in an incident with a previous client, we try and not ask too many questions.
Lauren appears a little shaken at the sight of Abigor.
Acheron – Welcome Mr Lauren please take a seat, tea or coffee.
Lauren – Tea would be just fine thank you, you said it is urgent.
Acheron – It is regarding Ahriman.
Lauren – The casino owner.
Acheron – That’s right, his wife asked for a three-million-dollar divorce settlement fee a week ago, last night I received a call from Mr Ahriman’s business associate, he said that Ahriman is in great distress, they found his wife in his second home pool, she had drowned.
Lauren – Sorry to hear that.
Acheron – So am I, I can’t save him this time Lauren.
Lauren – What do you mean.
Acheron – I mean the case isn’t looking too good, Ahriman has already been acquitted of a previous murder charge, but this one the jury is going to see right through.
Lauren – You suspect he is guilty; we can try to reduce the sentencing if he pleads guilty.
Acheron – He won’t, I need you to take the case, Ahriman is a long-standing client of ours.
Lauren leaves Acheron’s office.
Ophelia – Mr Lauren, my name is Ophelia I am an intern, I was told that I would assist you as part of my internship here this year.
Lauren – Oh yes of course, here is my business card, I’m in a little hurry, call me.
Tania – Mr Lauren your coat.
Lauren – Thank you.
Lauren returns to his chamber/office begins work right away he is chauffeured, curtesy of Acheron, Gabriel & Co.
Scene Change, Ahriman attends a meeting with detective Radcliff Marsh.
Radcliff Marsh – I’m glad you made it, they know, the ministry of justice know you have blood on your hand.
Ahriman – What am I going to do,
Radcliff Marsh – Well, we’re going to have to cut a deal with the judge, we know who’s taking your case, a young trial Attorney, Mr Lauren, we just need to keep an eye on him, but for now stick to the story, you don’t know anything, you came back home the police broke the news to you.
Ahriman – Right, look I’m shaking.
Radcliff Marsh is a crooked cop, he works for the ministry of justice, he has business dealings with the criminal underworld.
Ophelia – Mr Lauren I hope I didn’t call at a bad time.
Mr Lauren – No not at all, you’re the intern.
Ophelia – Yes that’s right, I was wondering if you need assistance with your case, I need to acquire the credit to pass my internship.
Mr Lauren – Well I’m, sort of.
Ophelia – Great how about I make my way to your office tomorrow, around two O’clock.
Mr Lauren – Ok sure, two O’clock.
Ophelia is an ambitious intern, a little shy but very intelligent.
Scene Change, scene at the firm.
Acheron – Tania can you bring Abigor to the office.
Abigor – Mr Acheron.
Acheron – Please take a seat, I need you to keep an eye on Mr Lauren, monitor his day-to-day activity, I need to know where he goes shopping, who he meets with, what he does on his rest day, everything.
Abigor – Ok, you want me to place a tracker device on his car.
Acheron – Yes, we need access to his land line, keep a record of all his incoming and outgoing phone calls.
Abigor leaves the office, he is expressionless, a lightly built middle aged man, softly spoken a sinister character, keeps a gun with himself everywhere he goes.
Tania – Ophelia, Mr Lauren left a message, he said he’d like you to bring the files on Ahriman with you today, all his previous cases.
Ophelia – Where are they kept.
Tania – I will give you the keys to the volt.
Ophelia can’t seem to gain access to the files, the key doesn’t seem to work, the security code is also unavailable.
Ophelia – Tania can you help me with this.
Tania – Strange, they must have changed the locks, I’ll investigate.
Ophelia makes an effort with her appearance and makes her way to Lauren’s Attorney office.
Ophelia – Hello my name is Ophelia I’m here to see Mr Lauren I have an appointment.
Receptionist – Come in.
Mr Lauren – You made it on time, would you like anything to drink.
Ophelia – No thanks, I couldn’t get access to the files you requested regarding Mr Ahriman.
Mr Lauren – Not to worry, I need to prepare for the trial, can you open a file for Mr Ahriman, and can you call his business associate, find out everything you can about the accident.
Ophelia – I’ll get right on it, one last thing, how can you represent someone you know is guilty of murder.
Mr Lauren – Well that’s my job.
Scene change, a meeting is held at Acherons office, Ahriman, Abigor and Gabriel along with another senior partner of the firm is present, Tony Wielder.
Ahriman – I don’t know why I just lost control.
Acheron – Calm down, ok so you had an argument regarding the prenuptial agreement, then what.
Ahriman – Well she started shouting, called me a bastard and threatened to turn me over to the police, tell them everything about my money laundering venture.
Acheron – Ok, how did she end up in the swimming pool.
Ahriman – I strangled her, she lost consciousness, I realized she wasn’t breathing anymore so I throw her into the pool, got into my car and drove off.
Acheron – Your business associate, what was he doing in your house.
Ahriman – I told him what happened over the phone, so I asked him to make his way to my house and call the police, so he did.
Tony Wilder – It is an open and closed case; I’m going to have to make a few phone calls to the serving judge.
Gabriel – The police won’t take too long to link the murder to you, fingerprints, the lead up, you know how it’s going to look in trial.
Ahriman – I know, my life is on the line, Gabriel, say something.
Gabriel – It is standard procedure, Mr Lauren has to be kept in the dark, the Jury and Judge, leave that to us, they’ve worked for us in the past, we’ll cut a deal.
Tony Wilder – Abigor, we need you to take care of the witness.
Abigor – Ahriman’s business associate.?
Tony – Right, get the story straight, we need him alive pretrial.
