INT. MAYOR'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS
O'Grady, THE MAYOR and a few AIDES watch the Ted O'Hara show on a TV.
THE MAYOR:
You aren't serious about
prosecuting that girl? Are you,
John?
JOHN:
Mr. Mayor, if we let this woman
walk without even an apology, it will send a signal that shooting...
THE MAYOR:
(Perturbed)
John, for God's sake, listen to me. I see an articulate, and attractive woman, who clearly and succinctly explained how she protected her life by shooting a murderer. We must salvage a little goodwill from this debacle. She has the people on her side. You and I will look like fools if you prosecute her.
JOHN:
I will look like a fool if I don't
prosecute.
THE MAYOR:
We have an election in a few
months. A hack you were and a hack you will again become if I don't support your election...and I won't if you don't drop this prosecution.
JOHN But Mr. Mayor...
THE MAYOR:
(raising his voice)
Don't Mr. Mayor me. You know the dirt I have on you. I will use it if you f*** me up with this prosecution.
JOHN:

Tom, I just received a call from the District Attorney's office -- they are not going to prosecute me.
They gave me a complete exoneration.
TOM:
I know. It's all over the news
already.
KAT:
It is? They really want to wash
their hands of this case. Don't they?
TOM:
Your campaign worked. Great job.
TOM:
You have had a rough week. How
would you like to join me for a
weekend at my home in New
Hampshire?
KAT:
Tom, that would be perfect.
TOM:
I will pick you up tomorrow
morning at nine. See you then.

KAT:
Wipe that look off your face,
Opie, and help me with the luggage.
Tom carries her two larger bags; Kat totes her small carry- on. She spoke as they walked to the elevator.
KAT (CONT'D)
Tom, O'Hara offered me a job as
assistant producer with a chance to do some on-air presentations.

KAT:
The uniform?
TOM:
Blue Blazer, khaki pants, blue
button down shirt and tie.
KAT ST. JOHN
I know exactly what to wear.
INT. TOM'S LIVING ROOM - EARLY EVENING
Tom is dressed for dinner reading a magazine when Kat gracefully steps down the stairway. She is wearing a sexy little black dress, a string of pearls and medium-healed pumps that bring her closer to Tom's height. Tom stands. Kat completes her entrance by walking up to Tom, pirouettes then gives him a light kiss on his cheek and steps back.
KAT:
Do you like it?

Unbelievable! I will need to

KAT:
Well, I hope he does!

DR. FORD (CONT'D) You have become a heroine here
after we saw you on television and heard Tom's personal accounts.
KAT:
Thank you, Dr. Ford, that's kind
of you to say but please call me Kat.
DR. FORD
O.K., Kat. I must say that you are
even prettier in person than you were on the O'Hara show.
TOM:
(interjecting)
See Kat, I told you he would fall
in love with you
DR. FORD
I confess. Can you blame me? Our
other guests will be here in a half hour but we would like have you to ourselves for a while. Please come in and meet Mrs. Ford. What are you drinking?
EXT. PATH
Tom and Kat walk arm and arm back after dinner.
KAT:
Thank you Tom, I really enjoyed
evening. I love your parents.
TOM:
You certainly were a hit with
them.
A moment of silence ensue between the two after which Tom looks at Kat. They both appear uneasy.
TOM:
Kat, let's call it an evening and
have a good night's sleep. I'm up by seven and there's always work for me to do -- we'll have breakfast, then plan the day.
Kat smiled, walked over to Tom to kiss him on the cheek.
