And Now, Back to Puzzle CityFADE IN:
The park is a canvas of greenery and laughter. A gentle breeze rustles through the leaves of the towering trees. The sun shines warmly, casting dappled shadows across the well-trodden paths. The chirp of birds and distant children's voices mingle with the sound of a distant ice cream truck.
NURSE PENNY CILLIN, a young, attentive, and slightly skeptical 26-year-old, sits on a bench next to LITTLE JENNY, a sprightly 17-year-old with a penchant for the extraordinary. Jenny's eyes sparkle with excitement as she watches a group of professional tap dancers perform on a makeshift stage.
JENNY:
(Turns to Penny) "It's so cool, isn't it? The way they make the rhythm with their feet!"PENNY:
(With a knowing smile) "It does look like fun, Jenny. But remember, it takes years of practice to be that good."JENNY:
(Pouts) "But I want to do it now!"Penny's gaze lingers on the dancers before she glances down at her bag. Inside, her hand brushes against a wand, a relic from a world she tries to keep hidden. She looks back at Jenny, her curiosity piqued.
PENNY:
(Teasingly) "Well, maybe I know a little shortcut."Jenny's eyes widen with excitement.
PENNY:
(Standing up) "But only if you promise to keep it our secret."Jenny nods vigorously.
Penny stands and takes Jenny's hand, leading her to an open space in the grass. She pulls out the wand from her bag and twirls it playfully.
PENNY:
(With a wink) "Ready?"JENNY:
(Eagerly) "Ready!"Penny whispers the magic words, "Shuffle shuffle step!"
Suddenly, a magical aura envelops the area. The air crackles with energy, and everyone around them, from the passersby to the children playing on the swings, find themselves wearing tap shoes. They all begin to move in sync, their feet tapping out an unexpected rhythm on the concrete paths.
PENNY:
(Surprised) "Oh no! I didn't mean for that to happen!"The parkgoers look around, bewildered, as their bodies start to sway and their feet begin to dance.
JENNY:
(Panicking) "Make it stop, Penny!"PENNY:
(Concentrating) "I'm trying!"The music from the stage seems to amplify, the beat dictating the speed of the impromptu dance. The tap dance fever spreads like wildfire.
PENNY:
(Panicking) "I think I've made a mistake!"The tap dancing becomes frenzied. Parents chase after their tap-dancing toddlers. Dogs in tap shoes bark in confusion. A soccer game morphs into a tap dance match.
INT. THE PARK STAGE - CONTINUOUS
On stage, the professional dancers stop in their tracks, watching the chaotic scene unfold before them. The music abruptly halts as the band members look around, bewildered.
Transition to Music Hall
INT. PUZZLE CITY MUSIC HALL - EVENING
MISS CHAMOMILE, a breathtaking 28-year-old with a powerful, sultry voice, stands in the wings, dressed in a stunning gown that shimmers with every movement. She runs through the lyrics of "Dat's Love" in her head, her heart racing with a mix of nerves and excitement.
The lights dim, and the orchestra strikes a dramatic chord. The audience falls silent. The conductor, JOHN WILLIAMS, a legendary maestro known for his flair and intensity, raises his baton.
JOHN WILLIAMS:
(Shouting over the orchestra kids) "Places everyone! The show must go on!"Miss Chamomile takes a deep breath and steps into the spotlight. Her eyes scan the crowd, searching for a familiar face as orchestra kids laughs at him.
Miss Chamomile:
(singing operatic)Love’s a baby that grows up wild
And he don’t do what you want him to
Love ain’t nobody’s angel-child
And he won’t pay any mind to you
One man gave me his diamond stud
And I won’t give him a cigarette
One man treats me like I was mud
And what I got, dat man can get
Dat’s love, dat’s love, dat’s love, dat’s love
You go for me and I’m taboo
But if you’re hard to get, I’ll go for you
And if I do, then you are through
Oh, my baby, that’s the end of you
…. So take your cue, boy
Don’t say I didn’t tell you true
…. I told you truly, if I love you
Dat’s the end of you!
When your love bird decides to fly
There ain’t no door that you can close
She just pecks you a quick good-bye
And flicks de salt from her tail and goes
If you listen then you get taught
And here’s your lesson for today
If I choose you, then you get caught
But once I got you, I go away
Dat’s love…
Audience applause for Miss Chamomile fills the Music Hall. She bows gracefully, her eyes still searching the sea of faces. Spotting Penny and Jenny in the second row, she winks and gives a knowing smile.
Transition to Park
The park is now a tap dancing extravaganza with people of all ages joining in, their laughter echoing through the trees. Bob the Builder, sweaty but enjoying the spectacle, wipes his brow with his sleeve.
BOB:
(Calling out) "Penny! Have you got a spell for this?"PENNY:
(Shaking her head)The tap dancing frenzy shows no signs of slowing. The park is a whirlwind of flying feet and laughter. The music has taken on a life of its own, the rhythm pounding through the night.
PENNY:
(Panting) "I... I can't reverse it! The spell's got a mind of its own!"JENNY:
(Panic rising) "What do we do?"Penny's gaze falls on the exhausted children. RT TROLLIE, LUCIA BECKER (3), CAMILA GLORIA (7) and BRAD BOLLER (9) sit on the bench, their tap shoes still tapping away despite their drooping shoulders.
PENNY:
(Determined) "We need to find the original source of the magic. Maybe a professional Buck Trollie can help."JENNY:
"But where do we find one?"PENNY:
(Thinks for a moment) "There's gotta be one in the phone book."They rush to the nearest payphone, Penny flipping through the yellow pages with trembling fingers.
PENNY:
(Finds the listing) "Here! 'Buck Trollie'... a magician. It's gotta be him!"JENNY:
"What do we do?"PENNY:
(Nods decisively) "We call him."Penny drops in a coin and dials the number. The phone rings for what feels like an eternity.
