As the others get excited, Bryan seems to have a feeling that something’s not quite right, judging by his facial expression.
Veronica notices this almost immediately.
VERONICA (CONT'D)
What’s wrong?
BRYAN:
(Shakes his head) Something’s not right.
VERONICA:
What is it?
BRYAN:
Why were there no survivors the first two games?
VERONICA:
What do you mean by that?
BRYAN:
I’ve read articles on the game, since they don’t broadcast them anymore. And it seems as though the game makers like to interfere with the game.
A few seconds pass, with the others inside the cabin appearing to look worried as well.
VERONICA:
Shoot. If what you say is true, then the game makers can find a way to bring the wolves closer to us then.
BRYAN:
That’s exactly my point.
JACK:
But we can’t worry about that.
CURTIS:
I would. I mean, Bryan and Veronica are correct. If something doesn’t happen soon, then we might have a problem.
JACK:
Do you seriously think that the game makers will change things?
BRYAN:
(Grimly)
Yes, they can easily add more wolves because the game right now isn’t challenging enough for us.
JACK:
This is ridiculous. We already lost one member. Adding more challenges doesn’t make sense at this point.
BRYAN:
I’m just saying.
JACK:
You’re assuming that something bad is going to happen.
BRYAN:
Well, it’s a likely scenario if it’s already happened twice.
JACK:
Then do you want to leave the cabin?
Now Bryan loses his temper. His face turns red.
BRYAN:
What do you mean by that?
JACK:
If you think it isn’t safe in here and that the game makers will make sure that they bring the wolves to where we are, then we should really leave, or split into groups.
BRYAN:
Yeah, but it’s not safe to leave the cabin.
JACK:
Then we should split into two groups. One group leaves the cabin and the others stay.
BRYAN:
But then the game makers will send wolves to both of our locations. So we should stay as one big group.
JACK:
I guess we’ll have to vote then.
VERONICA:
Well, I am staying inside the cabin. It’s the only safe place we’ve found, so why not stick to it?
The others give their own opinions as well.
CURTIS:
I’m definitely staying in here.
AMY:
(Shakes with fear) Me too, I guess...
BRYAN:
And of course, I’m staying.
Jack doesn’t appear to be very pleased with this vote, and he rolls his eyes. His body sags back against the wall of the cabin.
JACK:
Whatever you guys say.
BRYAN:
Yes. And now, what should we do? I guess we could do nothing for now.
VERONICA:
That’s not a good idea. We should be prepared in case we’re attacked.
CURTIS:
(Thoughtfully)
I saw some knives in the kitchen.
VERONICA:
(Beams)
Perfect! Then we can defend ourselves with those, and with other things if we find other things that we can use as weapons also.
BRYAN:
Good idea. Let’s arm ourselves in case something happens.
The five remaining survivors head to the kitchen and they start to gather supplies.
INT. CONTROL ROOM-OUTSIDE OF ARENA-DAY
There are four game makers situated inside of a control room that is located a couple of miles outside of the arena.
One game maker named ERIC watches the screens that show the people inside the arena, while the other three sit at a table which controls the drones.
ERIC:
It looks like the wolves are headed in the opposite direction.
The other game makers turn towards Eric and peer at a screen situated in the top left corner, which shows the people at the cabin.
And then they switch their gaze to a screen in the top right corner of the room.
AMANDA:
I think we should get the wolves to be closer to them.
ERIC:
Alright. Get the drones ready.
AMANDA:
Yes, sir.
Eric is clearly the leader of the group. He watches the screen 24/7.
AMANDA (CONT'D)
And do you want all of the wolves to be near the cabin?
ERIC:
No. Half.
AMANDA:
And how close do you want them to be?
ERIC:
About a quarter-of-a-mile away, and in the valley, not up in the mountains where the wolves can see the people automatically.
Otherwise, it’ll be too easy for the wolves to pick the people apart. (Pauses) I want a challenge. I want the game to be fair.
AMANDA:
Ok, I will make sure everything is alright. (To the others) Let’s get the drones to pick up the wolves and bring them towards the direction of the people.
Amanda and the two men working on the control panel get the drones to move towards the arena at a rapid pace.
ERIC:
(Smiles to himself) This should be good.
From inside the control room, the drones can be seen exiting a shed next to the room itself from a side window.
INT. CABIN-DAY
The people inside the cabin hide inside a bedroom on the second floor.
VERONICA:
(Suddenly appears alarmed) I think I see something.
Veronica peers at something out of the window. And the others look out too.
BRYAN:
Drones.
Surely enough, nearly half-a-dozen drones approach, each carrying one wolf with them.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
I see five of them.
AMY:
(Says shakily)
I knew this was going to happen.
BRYAN:
Will you quit panicking, please? Thank-you.
Amy cries as five wolves are dropped somewhere that’s in close proximity to the cabin.
BRYAN (CONT'D)
At least there’s only half of them.
JACK:
Yeah...where’s the alpha wolf?
BRYAN:
It’s not here. (Adds) I can see far away. There were three gray wolves and two white.
VERONICA:
That’s still nothing to laugh at. We have to plan.
CURTIS:
What if we block the doors with furniture from the cabin?
BRYAN:
Good idea. Let’s get to it before it gets dark.
The five remaining survivors head to different parts of the cabin and they put different pieces of furniture in front of each door that leads to the first floor of the cabin.
Once they’re finished with the first floor, they’re about to proceed to the second.
VERONICA:
Now we go to the second floor?
BRYAN:
No. The second floor is too high for the wolves, so they can’t enter up there anyways. Plus, we need a way to get out if we’re in trouble.
JACK:
So what do we do now?
BRYAN:
We wait.
Hours pass by.
Then the wolves emerge about five-hundred-feet from the cabin, from a thicket of trees.
The people inside the cabin look absolutely alarmed.
AMY:
(Quivers) What do we now?
BRYAN:
No. We should probably head out on top of the roof if they see us.
AMY:
But do they see us right now?
BRYAN:
It doesn’t appear like it.
Bryan watches closely as the wolves creep up on the cabin. They’re on the prowl.
AMY:
I don’t know what’s going to happen to us.
BRYAN:
(Very irritated) Shut-up!
AMY:
What? It’s true.
BRYAN:
You’ve been mostly complaining the whole time. Now please try to help us out.
Amy is seated in the corner of the bedroom, her eyes searching her surroundings frantically as she loses it.
The others observe her behavior and become worried.
JACK:
What’s wrong with her?
BRYAN:
She’s just scared, like all of us.
JACK:
Yes, but to a bigger extent, apparently.
BRYAN:
Ok. Let’s focus on what we need to do now, rather than only on Amy’s fear of the wolves.
AMY:
They’re getting closer...
Amy peers out of the window with the others. And surely enough, the five wolves are now within a hundred feet of the cabin.
