[Phone speaking]

Charlie Brown:
Hello, Information?

Yes. I'd like to talk

to a certain Little Red-Haired Girl.

No, I already have her number.

I was hoping you could tell me

something else.

What do I say

when she answers the phone?

[Phone muttering angrily]

Linus:
Call her, Charlie Brown.

[Charlie Brown dials the Little Red-Haired Girl’s number, another house phone rings]

Marcie:
(on the phone) Hello? This is Marcie speaking.

Charlie Brown:
Good grief, I dialed the wrong number.

Marcie:
(on the phone) Is that you, Charles?

It sounds like your voice.

If it is, how have you been?

If it isn't,

what do I care how you've been?

Marcie:
(from the other end of Charlie Brown’s phone) I'll bet you dialed my

Marcie:
(on the phone) number by mistake,

didn't you, Charles?

I'll bet you meant to call

Peppermint Patty.

[Peppermint Patty enters]

She just happens to be right here

beside me. I'll put her on.

Charlie Brown:
No, no. Wait, wait. I...

Peppermint Patty: (from the other end of the Charlie Brown’s phone) Hi, Chuck.

Finally got up the nerve to call me, eh?

Peppermint Patty: (on the phone) I bet you called to invite me

to your Valentine dance.

Well, I accept.

[scene fades to where Charlie Brown is getting ready for the dance]

[Men shouting on TV]

Sally:
Where are you going, big brother?

Charlie Brown:
Well, I finally got up the nerve to call

that Little Red-Haired Girl...

...but I called Marcie by mistake

and got a date with Peppermint Patty.

Sally:
I think you're too wishy-washy,

big brother.

Charlie Brown:
It's not a lost art.

[scene cuts to where Charlie Brown gives Snoopy his food bowl]

I'm feeding you early

because I'm going to a dance tonight.

[Charlie Brown puts Snoopy’s food on the ground]

I'm hoping I get to dance

with the Little Red-Haired Girl.

[Snoopy is shown wearing a red bow tie, he jumps down from his dog house]

Charlie Brown:
I didn't know you were coming along.

Who invited you? How will I get you in?

[Snoopy Laughs and Dances]

Boy:
Hold it right there, dude. This is a dance.

The dog can't come in.

Charlie Brown:
There was a misunderstanding.

This little kid here thought

it was gonna be a costume ball...

...so he wore a dog suit.

Boy:
Okay. Go on in. Have a great time.

[Charlie Brown and Snoopy enter the dance room]

Linus:
Hi, Charlie Brown.

Welcome to the dance. Everyone is here.

Charlie Brown:
I hope we're not too late.

Linus:
See, there she is, Charlie Brown.

There's the Little Red-Haired Girl

just waiting for you to ask her to dance.

Charlie Brown:
I wish I were sophisticated

like guys you read about in stories.

[Girls Giggling]

[Snoopy kisses a Girl twice]

Girl:
Wow!

[Snoopy kisses another girl once]

Linus:
It's now or never, Charlie Brown.

Charlie Brown:
I can't believe I'm doing this.

I'm walking toward

the Little Red-Haired Girl.

I'm going to ask her to dance.

I'm getting closer. I'm almost there. I'm...

Marcie:
Come on, Charles.

Peppermint Patty: Hey, Chuck, we've been looking for you.

[Marcie and Peppermint Patty start dancing with Charlie Brown]

Charlie Brown:
Good grief.

[UP-TEMPO MUSIC PLAYS OVER SPEAKERS]

[Charlie Brown falls down, Marcie and Peppermint Patty start to dance with a boy and Franklin, Linus enters]

Linus:
Charlie Brown, quick.

It's the last dance. You've got to...

Oh, no. She's taken.

Charlie Brown:
Good grief.

[the Little Red-Haired Girl is shown dancing with Snoopy, Pigpen enters]

[UP-TEMPO MUSIC PLAYS OVER SPEAKERS]

[ALL COUGHING]

[scene fades to Marcie and Peppermint Patty in front of the Brown’s house

Peppermint Patty: The Valentine dance wasn't very romantic,

Chuck.

Marcie:
And I saved you the waltz, Charles.

Peppermint Patty: How about the limo, Chuck?

We never saw a limo either.

Marcie:
And how come you fell down

during the dance?

Peppermint Patty: Don't invite us to any more dances,

Chuck.

Marcie:
Many a heart is broken after the ball.

[scene cuts to Schroeder’s house, Schroeder is playing a piano, and Lucy is leaning on it]

Lucy:
I know that you didn't send me

a valentine this year.

I have the feeling

that it was not an oversight.

I have the feeling that it was deliberate.

However, if I am wrong,

and it was merely an oversight...

...or if the valentine

that spoke so eloquently...

...of your love for me

was lost in the maiI...

...then I want to express my appreciation

for the thought.

Schroeder:
It was not an oversight.

It did not get lost in the mail.

Lucy:
I see.

Well, you know the old saying.

Schroeder:
What old saying?

Rats.

[scene cuts to Sally in front of the Van Pelt’s house, Sally rings the doorbell, the door opens to Lucy]

Sally:
I've come to see my sweet babboo.

Linus:
(off-screen) I am not your sweet babboo.

Sally:
I just wanna thank him for the valentine.

Linus:
I never sent her a valentine.

Sally:
Don't you know sarcasm

when you hear it?

[scene cuts to Charlie Brown and Linus]

Charlie Brown:
I dreamed about that Little Red-Haired Girl

again last night.

If I could have had

just one dance with her.

Now I'll be thinking about her all day

and be depressed.

Linus:
I think I know how you feel,

Charlie Brown.

You'd like to cry, but you're too macho.

Charlie Brown:
I am?

[Snoopy walks by with a wagon of valentines, he gives one to Charlie Brown]

[SNOOPY LAUGHS]

Linus:
Happy Valentine's Day, Charlie Brown.

[Charlie Brown has a big smile, a right sided diagonal red heart appears behind him]
