A Perfect Chord Page #4

Synopsis: Cadence (Malia Flack) has an incredible gift for music. The only problem is no one knows it. Overcome with stage fright, Cadence has hidden her talent away only to show it in the comfortable confines of her school music room, after hours of course, and only for the ears of her best friend Lizzy (Avery Noel). As the daughter of successful sound engineer parents, Cadence feels the pressure to be heard. Mika (Elina Odnoralov) comes from a classically trained musical family and must contend with her piano genius brother. She struggles to deal with the weight of expectations, as she wrestles with her talent and the style of music her heart yearns to play. A Perfect Chord is an inspiring film about overcoming fears, living up to expectations, the power of friendship and using ones gifts and talents to inspire others.

THEY WANT US TO PLAY

A SHOW OR SOMETHING.

I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW

FREE I FEEL RIGHT NOW.

[MUSIC]

WELL, COME ON!

[MUSIC]

SCREAMING, OUT LATE, RUNNING

DOWN THE STREET...

CAN'T SAY HEY...

CAN BARELY BREATHE...

SO DARN BUSY...

ALL I FEEL IS HEAT...

MAYBE IT'S A BREAK THA WE GOTTA TAKE...

SLOW IT DOWN A LITTLE BEFORE

THE BEAUTY FADES...

AWAY...

I'LL JUST SIT DOWN...

FEEL THE BREEZE:

BEFORE IT COMES...

TOES IN THE SAND...

HOLD A LOVING HAND...

FORGET ABOUT THE

CRAZINESS...

FORGET THE CARES I

GOTTA FACE...

I JUST WANT TO:

SOAK IT IN...

BECAUSE THIS LIFE IS

A MASTERPIECE...

I CAN FEEL THE:

JOY WITHIN...

AS THE SUN KISSES

MY SKIN...

IT FEELS SO GOOD TO BE

LOSING TRACK OF TIME...

YEAH, THIS IS A

BETTER LIFE...

SO I'LL JUST SIT DOWN...

FEEL THE BREEZE:

BEFORE IT COMES...

TOES IN THE SAND, HOLD

A LOVING HAND...

FORGET ABOUT THE

CRAZINESS...

FORGET THE CARES I

GOTTA FACE...

I JUST WANT TO:

SOAK IT IN...

I'LL JUST SIT DOWN, FEEL

THE BREEZE BEFORE IT COMES...

TOES IN THE SAND...

HOLD A LOVING HAND...

FORGET ABOUT THE

CRAZINESS...

FORGET THE CARES I

GOTTA FACE...

I JUST WANT TO:

SOAK IT IN...

BECAUSE THIS LIFE IS

A MASTERPIECE...

[WHISTLING AND MUSIC]

I JUST DON'T KNOW

ABOUT THIS VERSE.

WHY? I LIKE IT.

BECAUSE THE TWO:

AREN'T ...NOT THIS AGAIN.

WHAT IS IT?

OH, COME ON. YOU GUYS

WOULD BE GREAT!

WHAT?

IT'S AN OPEN MIC NIGH AT THE CHURCH COFFEE HOUSE.

THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!

RIGHT?

YOU KNOW I'M NOT GOING

TO SIGN UP FOR THAT.

YOU WOULDN'T BUT...

YOU DIDN'T.

OH, YEAH. IT'S TIME.

NO. I CAN'T, AND YOU KNOW IT.

YES, YOU CAN. YOU BOTH CAN.

YOU'RE GREAT.

HOW COULD YOU?

WHY DOESN' SHE WANT TO DO IT?

SHE'S AFRAID

OF PERFORMING.

LIKE SHE GETS DIZZY

AND SHE CAN'T BREATHE.

WHEN WE WERE YOUNGER,

SHE TRIED TO DO A TALEN CONTEST, BUT SHE PASSED OUT.

IT WAS REALLY SCARY, AND

NOW SHE'S TERRIFIED OF IT.

WHY ISN'T SHE

SCARED TO PLAY FOR YOU?

SHE'S ALWAYS

PLAYED FOR ME.

AND I'VE ALWAYS LISTENED.

AND THEN YOU SHOWED UP, AND

THAT'S THE FIRST TIME IN A

LONG TIME THAT SHE'S

PLAYED FOR ANYBODY ELSE.

AND THAT'S THE FIRST TIME

SHE'S EVER PLAYED WITH

SOMEBODY ELSE.

I JUST THOUGHT SHE WAS

STARTING TO NOT BE AFRAID.

[MUSIC]

[KNOCK AT DOOR]

[CRICKETS CHIRPING]

OH, HEY, LIZZY.

THANKS FOR CALLING

AND FOR COMING.

COME ON IN.

SHE'S UPSTAIRS.

I'M SORRY

THAT I UPSET HER.

OH, IT'S OKAY, HONEY.

WE'VE ALL TRIED SO HARD TO

HELP HER GET THROUGH THIS.

I'M JUST GLAD SHE HAS A

FRIEND LIKE YOU THAT'S THERE

TO ENCOURAGE HER.

THANKS. I GUESS I'LL GO UP.

OKAY.

[KNOCK AT DOOR]

MOM, I DON' WANT TO TALK.

LIZZY:
YOU DON'T HAVE TO

TALK, BUT WILL YOU LISTEN?

WHAT DO YOU WANT?

TO SET UP ANOTHER GIG

WITHOUT TELLING ME?

YOU OF ALL PEOPLE.

I KNOW. I'M SORRY.

I SHOULD HAVE TALKED TO

YOU FIRST, BUT...

NO. NOT BUT.

IT WASN'T OKAY.

YOU OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD

KNOW I CAN'T GET UP THERE.

YOU'RE MY BEST FRIEND.

YOU'RE SUPPOSED

TO UNDERSTAND.

I KNOW, BUT ...BU YOU'RE MY BEST FRIEND, TOO.

I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU

AFRAID OF THIS ANYMORE.

YOU'RE LIKE A SISTER TO ME,

AND I CAN'T HELP BUT WONDER

IF I'M ENCOURAGING

YOU OR ENABLING YOU.

ENABLING?

YES, ENABLING.

FRIENDSHIP ISN'T ABOU AGREEING ALL THE TIME.

IT'S ABOUT BEING HONEST AND

HELPING EACH OTHER

WITH YOUR FEARS.

YEAH? AND WHAT FEARS

ARE YOU FACING?

LOSING MY BEST FRIEND.

LOOK, I KNOW SIGNING YOU UP

FOR THE OPEN MIC WAS...

SELFISH? RUDE? BETRAYAL?

I WAS GOING TO SAY RASH,

BUT SMOTHERED IN LOVE?

YOU HAVE THIS:

TREMENDOUS GIFT.

SOMETHING THAT OTHERS

LIKE ME WON'T EVER HAVE.

I THINK YOU SHOULD SHARE IT.

YOU KNOW I CAN'T.

I KNOW YOU'RE SCARED.

I KNOW YOU'RE AFRAID

OF WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN.

BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE ANYMORE.

YOU CAN'T HIDE

FROM EVERYONE.

YOU NEED TO LET IT OUT.

WHAT FOR?

WHY DO YOU CARE SO MUCH?

I... I CARE ABOUT...

BEING FAMOUS?

NO. AS NOT EXAMPLE.

AN EXAMPLE? FOR WHAT?

HOW TO FREEZE ON STAGE

AND LOOK LIKE A MORON?

TELL ME, WHO AM I SUPPOSED

TO BE AN EXAMPLE FOR?

YOU? THE MARVELOUS MIKA?

MY PARENTS?

NO!

FOR HIM.

YOU WERE GIVEN THIS ...THIS

AMAZING GIFT TO SING AND

MAKE MUSIC.

YOU GET TO WORSHIP HIM IN A

WAY THAT INSPIRES OTHERS

TO WORSHIP.

EVERY TIME YOU PLAY I

SEE HOW MUCH YOU LOVE IT.

I SEE IT IN YOUR EYES.

I HEAR IT IN YOUR VOICE.

I FEEL IT IN YOUR WORDS.

IT JUST BREAKS MY HEAR THERE'S A WHOLE WORLD OU THERE WHO HASN'T BEEN

TOUCHED BY THIS GIFT.

THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW WHA THEY'RE MISSING OUT ON.

DON'T LET FEAR ROB YOU OR

MIKA OR THE REST OF US OF

THE WONDERS OF GOD'S GIFT.

[MUSIC]

CADENCE, COME DOWNSTAIRS!

YOUR BREAKFAST IS

GOING TO GET SOGGY!

CADENCE, CAN YOU HEAR ME?

CADENCE:
YEAH. I HEAR YOU.

WHAT'S THE MATTER?

NOT HUNGRY?

I MADE IT MYSELF.

THERE SHE IS.

YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT?

NOT REALLY.

OKAY.

THIS WOULDN'T HAVE ANYTHING

TO DO WITH LIZZY, WOULD IT?

DAD.

I'M JUST SAYING, YOU

GUYS HAVE BEEN FRIENDS

FOR FOREVER.

THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU'VE

EVER HAD A FIGHT LIKE THIS.

IT MAKES ME THINK

SOMETHING'S GOING ON.

YOU KNOW, SHE CALLED ME LAS NIGHT BEFORE SHE CAME OVER.

GREAT. NOW YOU GUYS ARE

GOING TO START ON ME, TOO.

WELL, SHE JUST SAID YOU

GUYS HAD A DISAGREEMENT.

SHE WANTED TO MAKE IT RIGHT.

SO SHE DIDN' TELL YOU THEN?

NO, SHE DIDN'T TELL

US WHAT IT WAS ABOUT. NO.

WHAT DIDN'T SHE TELL US?

SHE SIGNED ME UP

FOR AN OPEN MIKE.

I MEAN, CAN YOU

BELIEVE THAT?

HOW COULD SHE?

WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS?

SHE THINKS SHE'S YOUR

FRIEND, AND HONESTLY, SHE'S

GREAT AT IT.

YOUR MOM'S RIGHT.

LIZZY HAS ALWAYS

BEEN THERE FOR YOU.

SHE'S ALWAYS HAD YOUR BACK.

SOMETIMES BEING A FRIEND IS

ENCOURAGING EACH OTHER TO

STEP OUT IN FAITH.

I'M SURE ALL SHE WANTED

IS WHAT'S BEST FOR YOU.

THEN WHY WOULD:

SHE DO THAT?

BECAUSE SHE:

BELIEVES IN YOU.

AND THAT'S WHA FRIENDS DO, RIGHT?

THEY BELIEVE IN EACH OTHER.

[MUSIC]

HEY.

HEY.

HEY.

UM, I'M GOING TO SAY

SOMETHING, AND I'M NO REALLY SURE HOW TO SAY IT SO

PROBABLY GOING TO MESS THIS UP.

HERE GOES.

I DON'T LIKE THE IDEA OF

PLAYING IN FRONT OF PEOPLE.

I'M TERRIFIED

OF IT, ACTUALLY.

JUST I DON'T EVEN KNOW

HOW TO OVERCOME IT.

JUST THE THOUGHT OF STANDING

ON A STAGE IN FRONT OF

PEOPLE MAKES ME DIZZY.

IT'S OKAY. I JUS WANT YOU TO...

LIZ, JUS LET ME FINISH.

ALL THAT SAID, I DON' WANT TO BE AFRAID ANYMORE.

WHAT'S THIS?

THIS IS REALLY GOOD.

YEAH, I LIKE

IT A LOT SO FAR.

THAT'S JUST IT.

IT'S NOT FINISHED, AND I

DON'T THINK IT WOULD BE GOOD

TO PLAY AN IN COMPLETE

SONG AT OPEN MIC NIGHT.

WAIT. WHAT?

WHAT?

WELL, IT'S GOING TO

BE HARD ENOUGH TO PLAY.

THE LAST THING WE NEED

IS ONLY PLAY HALF A SONG.

YOU AREN'T KIDDING

RIGHT NOW, RIGHT?

BECAUSE THAT WOULD

BE REALLY MEAN.

NO. WHY WOULD I KID ABOU SOMETHING AS SERIOUS AS MUSIC?

YOU WERE RIGHT. I CAN'T HIDE.

THANK YOU.

YOU KNOW WHAT THIS NEEDS?

WHAT?

PIANO.

[GIGGLING]

[PIANO COVER THUMPS OPEN]

THE LYRICS ARE GREAT, AND

THE CHORD STRUCTURE IS GOOD.

I JUST THINK I NEEDS A LITTLE LIFE.

[PIANO MUSIC]

GRAB YOU'RE GUITAR.

WE'VE GOT A SONG TO WRITE.
