IN AND ASK HER IF WE CAN COME

IN.

I'LL BE RIGHT BACK.

[ BIRDS CHIRPING ]

[ CHICKEN CLUCKS ]

HELLO.

HI, MA'AM.

WE'RE DOING THE DOCUMENTARY ON

THE OLD HOSPITAL.

OH, YES.

HARLAN'S FRIENDS.

YEAH.

PLEASE, COME INSIDE.

OKAY.

UM...

DO YOU WANT TO JUST TELL US

EVERYTHING YOU REMEMBER FROM

THAT TIME?

WAS THE HOSPITAL REALLY HAUNTED,

OR...

I HAD JUST TURNED 15 WHEN MY

FATHER MOVED THE FAMILY HERE TO

WORK ON THE MINE, IN DECEMBER OF

AFTER THE JAPANESE BOMBED

PEARL HARBOR IN '41, I STAYED ON

AT THE HOSPITAL, EVENTUALLY

BECOMING A NURSE.

FOR THOSE FIRST TWO YEARS, WE

WERE SIMPLY A HOSPITAL CONCERNED

WITH PATIENT CARE.

BY 1950, BOOM TIMES WERE

DEFINITELY OVER.

THAT'S WHEN THIS UNKNOWN DOCTOR

TOOK OVER AT THE HOSPITAL.

UNDER HIM, I WATCHED THE FOCUS

OF THE HOSPITAL CHANGE.

HE HAD AN UNBEARABLE B*TCH OF A

WIFE.

EXCUSE MY LANGUAGE, BUT SHE WAS

JUST AS RESPONSIBLE FOR WHA HAPPENED HERE AS HE WAS, MAYBE

MORE.

THEY WEREN'T INTERESTED IN

CURING ANYONE.

IN ORDER FOR THE HOSPITAL TO

KEEP GETTING GOVERNMENT FUNDING,

THEY HAD TO MAINTAIN A CERTAIN

NUMBER OF PATIENTS ON THE BOOKS.

THAT'S WHEN THE FIRS DISAPPEARANCES WERE REPORTED.

OH, UM, I DIDN'T GET A LOT OF

INFORMATION.

I FOUND A FEW NEWSPAPER

CLIPPINGS.

I KNOW WHAT THE NEWSPAPER

SAID.

I ALSO KNOW WHAT I SAW.

PATIENTS WOULD COME IN AND OU OF THE TUNNELS -- NO PAPERWORK,

NO HISTORY.

IT WENT ON LIKE THAT FOR YEARS.

THAT'S WHEN...HE SHOWED UP.

WHO, MRS. CAMPBELL?

HIS NAME WAS ISAAC.

HE WAS A TYPICAL, LITTLE BOY,

BUT THERE WAS JUST SOMETHING

ABOUT HIM THAT DIDN'T FIT.

HE WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THERE.

I MEAN, HONESTLY, NONE OF THOSE

POOR CHILDREN SHOULD HAVE BEEN

THERE.

ACUTE SCHIZOPHRENIA AND

DEPRESSION, THE DOCTOR SAID.

BUT NONE OF THE SYMPTOMS ON HIS

CHART MATCHED UP.

IT JUST SEEMED LIKE HE WAS

ABANDONED THERE.

SO, I TOOK IT UPON MYSELF TO

LOOK AFTER HIM.

HE WAS BEGINNING TO MAKE

PROGRESS, UNTIL DR. HOSTEDLER

HAD HIM SENT DOWNSTAIRS TO

"THERAPY."

THAT'S WHAT THEY CALLED IT --

THERAPY.

AND I ASKED WHERE HE WAS TAKEN.

THEY SIMPLY SAID THAT HE WAS

TRANSFERRED DOWNSTAIRS AND THA ISAAC WAS NO LONGER MY CONCERN.

AFTER THAT, I NEVER SAW THE BOY

AGAIN.

LATER THAT FALL, RUMORS BEGAN TO

CIRCULATE AROUND THE NURSING

STAFF ABOUT THE BOY'S TRUE

IDENTITY.

ROSIE SHAW, A CLOSE FRIEND OF

MINE AT THE TIME, HEARD THE

DOCTOR AND HIS WIFE ARGUING IN

HIS OFFICE...

THAT ILLEGITIMATE BASTARD

NEEDS TO DISAPPEAR.

DO YOU HEAR ME?

HE COULD JEOPARDIZE EVERYTHING

WE'VE WORKED FOR!

I TOOK CARE OF THE MOTHER WHEN

SHE SHOWED UP AT OUR F***ING

DOORSTEP!

YOU NEED TO HANDLE THIS

SITUATION ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.

JUST HANDLE IT...NOW!

IT'S MY SON.

THAT WEEK I COULDN'T GET I OUT OF MY HEAD.

SO, I SNUCK INTO THE RESTRICTED

LOWER LEVEL TO CHECK UP ON HIM.

WHAT I SAW THERE MADE ME SICK TO

MY STOMACH.

BEFORE I COULD GO ANY FURTHER,

I WAS CAUGHT AND PROMPTLY ASKED

TO LEAVE.

LATER, I HEARD FROM ROSIE THA ISAAC HAD DIED.

DID THE DOCTOR EVER ADMI THAT ISAAC WAS HIS SON?

NO, HE NEVER DID.

WHEN THE DOCTOR WAS FOUND DEAD,

THERE WAS NO QUESTION WHO HAD

DONE IT, NOT IN MY MIND, A LEAST.

I'M SORRY, MRS. CAMPBELL.

EVERYTHING I HAVE READ SAID I WAS A MURDER-SUICIDE.

FORGIVE ME.

BUT I WAS THERE.

I KNOW THE TRUTH.

UM...WHAT IS THE TRUTH,

MRS. CAMPBELL?

THAT THE BOY KILLED THEM ALL.

AND I CAN'T SAY THEY DIDN' DESERVE IT.

THAT NIGHT, I SAW THE BOY AS A

MAN.

I HATE TO THINK OF IT.

BUT HE MUST HAVE GOTTEN OUT AND

BEEN LIVING IN THAT HOSPITAL THE

WHOLE TIME.

THE SHERIFF KNEW MY HISTORY WITH

ISAAC.

WE TRACKED HIM IN THE

HOSTEDLERS' HOUSE, ALL THE WAY

TO THE HOSPITAL GROUNDS.

WHEN WE CAUGHT UP TO HIM, HE WAS

DRAGGING THE BODY OF THAT DAMN

NURSE.

THEY DUMPED HIS BODY IN A

SHALLOW GRAVE.

YOU ASKED ABOUT THE GHOSTS UP

THERE.

I SAW HIM DIE.

I SAW THE ANGUISH IN HIS EYES,

AND I BELIEVE THAT TORMENTED BOY

IS THE GHOST YOU'RE AFTER.

ISAAC DIDN'T DESERVE WHA HAPPENED TO HIM.

THAT BOY WASN'T BORN EVIL.

HE WAS MADE THAT WAY.

I THINK I'M DONE NOW, DEAR.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

HAVE A GREAT DAY.

OH, MY GOD.

HOLY SH*T.

I CAN'T BELIEVE WE JUST GO THAT.

YEAH, PRETTY F***ING CREEPY.

SHE WAS AMAZING.

NOW WE JUST HAVE TO COVER THE

HOSPITAL.

DUDE, I'M NOT EVEN SURE I

WANT TO GO ANYMORE.

OH, COME ON!

WE'RE SO CLOSE.

AND ALL WE NEED IS SOME BUREAU

FOOTAGE AND A LITTLE AUDIO, SOME

"GHOST CHASERS"-TYPE STUFF, AND

I'LL HAVE YOU HOME IN TIME FOR

"SOUTH PARK."

ALL RIGHT, IF YOU SAY SO.

[ DANIEL, ANGEL MOANING ]

AW, IT'S LIKE ON

ANIMAL PLANET, YOU KNOW, WHEN,

LIKE THE AWKWARD WATER BUFFALO

MOUNTS THE GRACEFUL GAZELLE.

IT'S JUST 'CAUSE IT'S YOUR

FIRST TIME SEEING IT.

I MEAN, YOU GET USED TO IT,

REALLY.

ALL YOU NEED IS A BLINDFOLD,

EARPLUGS, LYSOL, AND A BUCKE OF PURELL.

HEY, COOL IT.

WE HAVE TO GET ON THE ROAD.

SH*T, DUDE, CAN YOU JUST WAI FOR, LIKE, 20 MINUTES?

AND I WOULD REALLY PREFER I IF YOU WOULD PAY TO GET THE CAR

WASHED.

THAT'S THE LEAST Y'ALL DIRTY

MOTHERFUCKERS CAN DO.

UGH!

DUDE, YOU GUYS, MOVE OVER.

OH, THAT'S DISGUSTING.

DUDE, IT REEKS IN HERE!

[ SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC PLAYS ]

I TOLD YOU GUYS TO ONLY BRING

WHAT YOU NEED.

COME ON.

WE HAVE TO GET UP THIS HILL.

HEY!

YOU AIN'T SUPPOSED TO BE FOOLING

AROUND OUT HERE.

WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?

YOU'RE UP HERE.

COME ON, SPORT.

THESE YOUNG GIRLS, THEY DON' WANT TO BE MESSING AROUND UP

HERE.

IT AIN'T SAFE.

IT'S NOT THE OLD WEST,

COWBOY.

THESE ARE BIG GIRLS.

THEY CAN TAKE CARE OF

THEMSELVES.

THIS IS A DANGEROUS AREA.

YOU JUST CAN'T GO WANDERING

AROUND HERE LIKE YOU KNOW WHA YOU'RE DOING.

THIS WHOLE AREA'S PEPPERED WITH

ABANDONED MINE SHAFTS, NOT TO

MENTION THE WILD ANIMALS.

IF YOU AIN'T FROM HERE, YOU

MIGHT NOT MAKE IT OUT OF HERE.

NOW GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM

NOW.

I'M SERIOUS.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONCERN,

SIR, BUT WE'LL BE ALL RIGHT.

THANKS, COACH.

IT'S A GREAT TALK.

MM-HMM.

YOU'RE PRETTY F***ING SMART,

AIN'T YOU?

YOU THINK YOU KNOW EVERYTHING.

YOU GOT ALL THE ANSWERS, RIGHT?

WELL, YOU'RE GONNA BE DAMN SORRY

YOU DIDN'T LISTEN TO ME, BECAUSE

THAT F***ING EGO OF YOURS IS

GONNA GET YOUR CANDY-ASS IN

TROUBLE!

F***ING SERIOUS? REALLY?

STOP, DUDE.

YOU'LL ALL BE DEAD BY

MORNING.

OH, YEAH?

F*** YOU, TOO, OLD MAN!

STOP!

DUDE, WATCH OUT.

WHAT THE HELL'S THAT GUY'S

PROBLEM, ANYWAY?

THE F***ER'S PROBABLY...

[ SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC PLAYS ]

THAT THING'S NEVER GONNA WORK.

THEY CUT THE POWER DOWN AT THE

STREET LEVEL.

IT'LL WORK.

MY FRIENDS AND I SNUCK INTO

THE MINE LAST SUMMER.

THE LIGHTS THERE WERE ON.

IT'S ALL TIED TOGETHER.

DAMN, GIRL!

THAT WAS LAST SUMMER.

WHEN THE HELL DID YOU GUYS

GET ENGINEERING DEGREES?

[ ELECTRICITY CRACKLES ]

[ WHIRRING ]

LET THE RECORD STATE THAT THE

PATIENT IS NONRESPONSIVE.

ONLY YOU.

[ SUSPENSEFUL MUSIC PLAYS ]

[ GROANS ]

YOU GUYS, COME IN THIS WAY!

THIS IS LIKE A MAZE...

SO AWESOME.

WHY DON'T WE JUST LEAVE OUR

STUFF IN HERE AND THEN GO TO A

ROOM BEFORE YOU CAN GET CLEAN

EVP.

YEAH. YEAH, SURE.

AND JUST, LIKE, WALK AROUND
