Professor Lorrin – I think we have a genius here today.

Professor Howard – I don’t think I’ve heard this kind of playing for Lesly’s audition thirty years ago.

Professor Lorrin – What do you think Charles.

Professor Charles – I’m lost for words; this boy is a miracle.

Elderly lady – Thank you Arthur, you can make your way back to your mother.

Maria – How did it go.

Arthur – I don’t know, they didn’t say much.

Maria – I’m sure you did fine, lets go back home, I must make lunch.

Scene change, one month later a letter arrives, Maria opens the letter and is seen crying with joy.

Maria – Arthur, come downstairs.

Arthur – What is it, I’m busy.

Maria – It’s the Royal College of music.

Arthur – What did they say.

Maria – Here you have a read.

Arthur reads through the letter out loud.

Arthur – After careful consideration we have decided to welcome Arthur on our Piano course for gifted children this September, we feel it is appropriate to grant Arthur the scholarship he deserves.

Maria – Congratulation Arthur, wait until your father hears the good news.

Scene change, Edward returns home from work and is greeted by Maria at the door.

Maria – You’ll never guess.

Edward – You look happy, I guess you’ve missed me.

Maria – That to, Arthur has been accepted by the College of Music.

Edward – That’s great news, and the scholarship ?.

Maria – Including the scholarship.

Edward – Where is he, Arthur come downstairs.

Scene change, Arthur is now eighteen years old, he has graduated from the College of music for gifted children and has passed all his school exams. Arthur is at his piano lesson with Olga, he is playing the Coda from Beethoven’s appassionato Sonata.

Olga – Arthur you have really become a great artist, it is time we arranged a private concert for you, I know just the right people that will be willing to help you financially.

Arthur – What about the Royal Academy of Music audition?.

Olga – What about it, you will audition for that this academic year, but you need to start your career sooner rather than later, oh Arthur time goes by very fast. A pianist’s career can be over sooner than you think if they’ve not been signed by a major label or given a recital at the Wigmore Hall by the age of twenty-three,

Arthur – That gives me five years, you really think I could become that successful.

Olga – Of course I do, I have a lot of confidence in you. Now we need to put a program together for your recital, it must showcase your talent, Liszt’s Paganini Etude, Bach’s French suit, you know how I like your Bach playing, Chopin’s Nocturne and lastly Beethoven’s Appassionato Sonata, you’ve become quite the Beethoven interpreter.

Arthur – Lets hope they don’t get bored.

Scene Change, a recital has been organised for Arthur, at the home of a wealthy music patron, the guests include high society people, musicians, Artists, fund raisers, as well as editors for a classical piano magazine.

Olga – Welcome everyone, I hope you have all enjoyed your dinner, as you know we have a very promising artist on the rise, Arthur Bremann, Arthur has been accepted at the Royal Academy of Music and this evening he will performing for us. As you know the life of the artist depends on the support of people who love music, so as you take your seats you will find a form, please take it home with you and support Arthur by donating however little it maybe to the Arthur Bremann scholarship. Please make your way to the music, Arthur will perform at seven, have a great evening.

Scene change, a grand piano with seats around the piano consisting of the guests, Arthur makes his way to the piano and begins to perform his program. The scene consists of Arthur playing his program, with a final applaud and Arthur exiting the music room, Olga looks very happy. The eighteen-year-old Arthur is now a student at the Royal Academy of music, he is house sharing with several other musicians, he has his upright piano, his books, and albums with him. It is a typical student dwelling; his flat mate is violinist Izac and singer Clara. Izac chain smokes and drinks a lot of beer, he is very talented but wild, and restless. Clara is very attractive, and Arthur shows signs of being attracted to Clara.

Izac – You know what your problem is Arthur.

Arthur – I didn’t know I had a problem.

Izac – You don’t know how to have fun.

Arthur – I don’t, well that’s a relief, Izac we’re here to study.

Izac – You see that’s exactly what I mean, you almost sound like my dad.

Arthur – He sounds like a great guy; I wouldn’t mind meeting him one day.

Clara – Guys can you keep the noise down, the neighbours will have us evicted.

Izac – Are you telling me Bach is getting on their nerves.

Clara – It’s not the Bach, it’s your bad violin playing.

Arthur bursts out laughing, Izac blows a smoke in the air.

Izac – I’ll have you know; no one has ever complained about my violin playing. So how about it Arthur, I know this great club in London, you’ll love it.

Arthur – I think I’ll give it a miss.

Izac – Suit yourself.

Izac has a dark secret, he takes drugs, his time away from home has got him mixing with the wrong crowd, as well as that he suffers from mild bipolar, he takes drugs to lift his mood.

Scene change, Izac is out at night, he is meeting a group of men who supply him with drugs.

Drug dealer – it’s clean, you won’t find a better quality anywhere.

Izac – How much.

Drug dealer – A pound a puff.

Izac – What, that’s one hundred pounds for two minutes of smoke.

Drug dealer – Take it or leave it buddy, I’m giving you a great deal here.

Izac – Ok, here is the money.

Drug dealer – We’ll do business again sometime.

Izac – I have your number, this better be good.

Izac walks off into the distance, he finds a quiet spot looks around and starts smoking his drug, he gets high, he gives a sigh of relief.

Scene change, the lecture hall, Izac enters the lecture late, he sits near Arthur.

Arthur – What’s the matter you don’t look well, I tried waking you up, but you weren’t in your room this morning.

Izac – I went for a walk last night, stayed with a girl I met at a bar, what is professor Simens talking about.

Arthur – Counter point in Bach

Izac – Hell.

Professor SimensWelcome back Izac, I hope I’m not interrupting your conversation.

Izac – Not at all, I was just making notes.

Professor Simens – Right, where were we.

Scene change, Izac, Clara, Arthur and Hector are seated at the Academy canteen, Hector is a close friend of Izac, he takes composition class at the Academy.

Hector – Pass me the sault.

Clara – What happened to please.

Hector – Please, you guys heard the news going around.

Izac – What news.

Hector – The caretaker found drugs in the toilets, he thought it was sugar, takes it to the canteen, chef has a fit, calls the principle, the principle calls the police.

Arthur – I don’t believe it; they are that strict with sugar consumption.

Hector – Anyway, the quantity is too small for the police to get involved allegedly, so they won’t investigate. I think I know why; the board doesn’t want to attract negative press; it will ruin the reputation of the academy. So instead, they are looking for the suspect.

Clara – I hope they find him, or them.

Hector – It could be she; Clara be honest.

Arthur – well who ever it is bad luck to them.

Hector – Right, here is the catch, there is a reward for whom ever reports the suspect.

Izac – How do you know this.

Hector – Check your email, they’ve sent out an email to everyone.

Izac – This is a load of bull, look we’ve got five minutes before class, I need to use the toilet.
