Homeless man – Spare change sir.

Stanley – Sure here.

Homeless man – So long as you’re paying.

Stanley and the homeless man make their way to the restaurant.

Stanley – Table for two please.

Waitress – would you like the menu.

Stanley – Yes please.

Waitress – You do know we have a policy here; we can’t let anyone that doesn’t meet our code of hygiene.

Stanley – Can you make an exception this one time, this man served his country, he fought for our freedom.

Waitress – I’ll have to ask the manager.

Stanley – Come on please, just this one time.

Waitress – Ok we have tables outside, how about I bring you the menu outside, sit outside.

Stanley – Ok that would be fine.

The waitress brings the menu, they place their order, the food is served.

Homeless man – I appreciate what you’re doing for me.

Stanley – Don’t mention it, how long have you been sleeping rough.

Homeless man – Twenty years Sir.

Stanley – I see, you’ve never been offered shelter.

Homeless man – In America, you must be dreaming.

Stanley – Too bad, you don’t have family.

Homeless man – My only family was my dog, he died, I live on hand outs.

Stanley – You beg.

Homeless man – That’s right.

He makes his way to Lola’s apartment as he promised earlier, bought a bunch of flowers, chocolate and a “I love you card”, for a belated Valentines day. He knocks on Lola's front door. Stanley begins to make the connection between the physical symptoms and his general attitude.

Lola – Who is it.

Stanley – It’s me, let me in.

Lola – Do I have to.

Stanley – Please.

Stanley is invited in.

Lola – Are those for me.

Stanley – Yes of course it is, who else.

Lola – Thank you, now that you’ve regained consciousness, that’s if you have a conscious, I think you should know, it’s over between us.

Stanley – Don’t say that you know I love you.

Lola – Me and two other women by the look of things.

Stanley – Look they mean nothing to me, I won’t ever see them again, I promise.

Lola – Promises promises promises, why should I believe you.

Stanley – Because I mean it, look I want to take you out for a meal this evening, how about it.

Lola – Let me think about it, ask me again some other time.

Stanley – Ok, so you forgive me.

Lola – I didn’t say I forgive you, I just need time to think, plus I told Leon I’ll see him this evening.

Stanley – Who is Leon.

Lola - some one I met on my way home from hospital.

Stanley – Don’t lie to me baby.

Lola – Ok I won’t, I need time, now go away please I have work to do.

Stanley makes his way out of her apartment; he makes extra effort not to lose his temper with anyone.

Scene change, Stanley is at a caffe, he’s reading a news paper when he receives a call on his mobile phone, it’s Doctor Hakeem.

Doctor Hakeem – May I speak to Stanley.

Stanley – Speaking.

Hakeem – Can you make your way to our surgery tomorrow morning ten AM.

Stanley – Sure, is it good or bad news.

Hakeem – I can’t discuss anything over the phone.

Stanley – Right, ten AM, I’ll be there, by the way I seem to be on the mend.

Hakeem – That’s good news, we still need to see you.

They hang up the phone.

The next day.

Hakeem – Please take a seat, all the doctors were puzzled, the result of the test indicates that there is nothing wrong with you Stanley, you’re in good health, and by the look of things your colour has returned to normal, except one thing.

Stanley – What is that one thing.

Hakeem – They found traces of poison in your blood, were you bit by a spider, or a snake, did you eat something poisonous by accident, like a mushroom.

Stanley – Not that I can think of, ah, except this one incident, I was bit by a bumble bee.

Hakeem – Well that explains it, I’m sure it’s nothing serious, but you’ll need to come back for a check-up in two weeks.

Stanley – Thank you Doctor, you don’t know how great I feel.

Stanley makes his way to the parking bay, where he finds a parking ticket on his car, he’s one minute late, the parking inspector is standing nearby.

Stanley – hey what do you think you’re doing.

Inspector – You’re late sir.

Stanley – by one minute, there are laws against people like you.

Inspector – No sir, you have two weeks to pay the fine.

Stanley – Listen you son of a b*tch, you cancel that fine or I’ll break your nose.

Inspector – You have two weeks to contest the fine, there are camera’s here, you’ll lose you case.

Stanley – You have a horrible day Mr.

Stanley looks at his hand he notices, it has changed colour again, it turned blue. He gets into his car and drives off.

Stanley – Oh no, what have I done.
