for a night swim. - Where is it?

Wanna go?

- Yes!

...the pedestrian's brain

just exploded on the street...

...cops were picking up pieces,

and seagulls snacked on the remains

I'm leaving

Hey, I'm really sorry.

- Who cares

The night's still young.

- Yeah, right. But I'm leaving now

How about tomorrow?

- Forget it. Forget the whole summer

I haven't got swimming trunks.

- Are you chickening out?

No, just thinking

Of what?

- Nothing

Listen. What a beautiful sound

Sounds a bit like gears humming

What are you thinking about?

About how Eetu is going to react to this

The two of you will

just have to talk things through

It won't be easy after this

I'll call him in the morning.

- I can call him as well

No, I'll talk to him first

I'm so happy.

- So am I

Eetu called at 3 am.

Give him a call. Mom

Great laps you're doing!

Where's K?

- Making notes, I guess

I've been wracking my brain

over the tactics for the race

I had planned that Eetu

would help K to win

But it may not be the smartest plan

So I'll make an exception:

You can both race for first place

On one condition. That you won't

screw up each other's chances

Piril, is checking both of you

It would be great if one of you

gets lucky

And hey, maybe you'll both be

on the national team in the fall

Let's go for a swim after work.

- Can't make it

Hell, we have the best team

for twenty years

Mr. Ski is totally mind-boggled.

He thought you were history

Could be

You called on Saturday.

- Yeah

For a while I suspected you were

hitting on Oona behind my back

But I knew you would never

do a thing like that to me

Especially at a time like this

C'mon, of course not

That's what I thought

I was going to tell Eetu about us

today, but I can't. Not now

His ego is totally shattered.

If you see him... - Then what?

I don't want to

break the team balance

Don't try that crap on me.

You need Eetu's help

And he needs mine just the same.

- He called me

Apologized for his behavior.

- And?

Said he felt stupid for suspecting.

- And?

And I told him!

- About us?

What do you think!

About us of course

Why would I lie to him.

I feel stupid enough as it is

He'll make me pay for this

Sure, if you didn't have the

guts to tell him

And you had nothing to do with it?

That's not what I meant

See this enlargement here?

The blood runs from the heart through

this main artery... - The aorta

In your case it should be 3.8 cm wide

But you have a 3 mm enlargement here

There was no sign of it

in the tests last spring

It can only be due to

excessive training

Your heart has to be operated on

Is it a major operation?

- Yes, and difficult

September suits me.

- K. It's not the way it goes

If you were on the National Team,

maybe...

But in your case it'll have to

wait until the spring

A whole season wasted.

- I'm sorry

I have the Nationals on Sunday.

- And I forbid you to take part

If this artery is torn-

you have fifteen minutes to

make it to the operating table

Ask your coach to call me

The conduction medium

of muscle fibers branches-

into the ventricles, carrying

the impulse through the entire heart

Consequently, the ventricles contract

Inexhaustibility is distinctive of

the cardiac muscle

in its whole life span it only

gets to rest 0.5 seconds

However, it goes

through several pauses

Time's up

The heart is a mysterious organ

Seemingly lacking a will,

yet able to react to-

somatic and psychological changes

rapidly, unexpectedly...

Hi there

Am I bothering you?

- No

Looks like my exam went really well.

- I'm glad to hear it

Thanks again for the tapes.

- You're welcome

Maybe we should talk

Or?

- Why not

Should we go some place?

- I have to finish this

Have you talked to Eetu?

- No

Don't you think you should?

We'll deal with it our own way.

Don't worry

Are you mad at me?

- Dunno, you were probably right

I didn't mean it exactly that way.

- That's OK. I am what I am

High hopes are resting on Mattson

0nly a minute to go...

Here they are, 40 hungry racers,

ready to give their best shot...

A few names stand out as promising

How's it going?

- Fair enough. And you?

Busy as hell.

- Is the National Team all settled?

One man missing. Which of them

is in better form?

My guys will settle it

on the road

He came second to K. Naakka

in the District Championships-

who is number 15 in this race

Keep an eye on this promising rider,

only 19 years old

Oona!

10- 9-8- 7...5-

4- 3- 2- 1- Go!

Come on Chain Mates!

Go for it K!

Here come Mattson and Valve.

We're doing great time

And here come Vilander and Naakka

Let's go!

We've got a good lead now.

- No reason to ease up

Any drink left?

- Lf I had, I wouldn't give you any

Thanks

They're coming!

K! Are you OK.?

Just go!

- Will you be all right?

I'll just catch my breath

Eetu Vilander is the National Champion.

What an incredible ride!

Hello

I'm glad to see you eating again.

- Why am I packaged up like this?

You have a discogenic dislocation

But the doctors want your heart

to recover from surgery first

That's why you've got to keep still

My legs? They're numb

Your doctor believes

there's a good chance of recovery

You can tell me the truth

You'll start rehabilitation soon

If it's temporary spinal shock,

as the doctors believe-

you should be moving your legs

in a month's time

But you'll never become a top athlete

And frankly, to me it's a relief

Everyone keeps calling.

Eetu, Coach and Oona

They want to visit you.

I told them I'd ask you first

I don't want to see anyone

We're in a hurry

Hi!

Never seen parallel bars this long

I asked the staff to set them up

I left it to the very last moment,

but I came anyway

I'm not getting out for a while

I'm leaving for Holland

With the Under Twenty-three

National Congratulations

I wouldn't have made it without you.

- Just thank yourself

No, I'm thanking you

Got to go. Or we'll miss the plane

Keep an eye on the sports pages

Not exactly my favorite reading

nowadays

Eetu!

I'm glad you made it

I wish you all the best

I think Oona would be happy

if you gave her a call

I can manage on my own.

- Take it, just in case

Certainly not

Hey, why don't you leave

Mom! Will you just get lost!

You're walking like a pro.

- It's coming along

But they won't let me cycle

for a year

Strange how distances take

twice as long as they used to

How's the heart?

- Still beating

How are things with you?

- I passed the exam.

By the skin of my teeth.

- Wow. Congratulations

It must have been the sure bet

Don't you remember?

The heart is a mysterious organ

Seemingly lacking a will,

yet able to react to-

somatic and psychological changes

rapidly...

Unexxc... unexpectedly.

- Unexpectedly

I want to apologize

I really didn't treat you right

That was then

Docking the kayak for winter?

- Just about to do it

Or should we go out one last time?

- That would be nice

If you feel like it.

- Let's go
