THIS MUST HAVE BEEN THE PLACE

WHERE THE LITTLE GIRL WAS JUS BEFORE WE FOUND HER.

THIS PAIL SHE WAS CARRYING

MATCHES THESE SAND CASTLES

EXACTLY.

YEAH? WHAT ELSE?

THE FOOTPRINTS COMING DOWN

FROM THE ROAD SHOWS THAT -- I LOOKS LIKE THE TWO ADULTS WERE

HERE, TOO.

YEAH?

AND THE ONES THAT LEAD TO THE

DEBRIS?

ANYBODY ELSE KNOW ABOUT THIS?

WELL, DR. LAWRENCE, AND I

CALLED FRANK'S MOTHER THIS

MORNING.

YEAH? WHAT DID YOU TELL HER?

AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE TILL WE

CAN FIGURE THIS THING OUT.

GOOD.

NOT ANOTHER WORD TO ANYBODY.

SHE'S NOT GONNA KEEP IT TO

HERSELF.

IT'S GONNA BE ALL OVER TOWN BY

THIS AFTERNOON.

OH, THAT'S ALL RIGHT, AS LONG

AS IT DON'T GET OFF THIS ISLAND.

DON'T YOU THINK WE OUGHT TO

CALL THE STATE LABORATORY AND

LET THEM CHECK ON THE --

WE ARE NOT GONNA CALL ANYBODY

UNTIL I SAY SO.

WITHOUT THEM, HOW ARE WE

GONNA GET THE EVIDENCE TO TRY --

NO CALLS, NO STATE POLICE,

PERIOD.

LOOK, I KNOW WE JUST HAD AN

ELECTION AND YOU'RE TRYING TO

KEEP UP APPEARANCES, BUT THIS

THING IS TOO BIG FOR --

I AM THE SHERIFF HERE,

TILLIS, AND NOBODY'S GONNA KNOW

ANYTHING UNTIL I SAY SO.

I CALLED ANOTHER PERSON.

I CALLED JOHN.

YOUR SON-IN-LAW?

WELL, WHAT THE HELL'S HE GONNA

DO?

HE'S A PROFESSOR OF PLAN BIOLOGY.

HE CAN PROBABLY TELL US WHERE

THAT DEBRIS CAME FROM AND MAYBE

EVEN IDENTIFY THE TRACKS.

HE'S ALREADY ON HIS WAY?

HE'LL BE HERE THIS MORNING.

[ SIGHS ]

I DON'T LIKE IT.

LET'S JUST GET HIM TO TELL US

WHAT HE KNOWS AND SEND HIM ON

BACK HOME.

OH, SURE, DOUG.

AND YOU MAKE SURE HE CAN KEEP

HIS MOUTH SHUT.

[ STARTER CLICKING ]

[ BIRDS CHIRPING ]

IT'S STILL DEAD.

THERE'S NOT A CLICK -- NOTHING.

THIS ISN'T GONNA WORK.

WE SHOULD HAVE NEVER TRIED THIS

TOUR.

WE'LL MAKE IT.

WE'LL FIND A MECHANIC IN THE

NEXT TOWN, AND WE'LL GET BACK ON

THE ROAD.

[ BIRDS CHIRPING ]

HERE WE GO.

HEY! HEY, OVER HERE!

OVER HERE!

OH, HE'S STOPPING. COOL.

HI.

HELLO.

YEAH, HEY.

ARE YOU A MECHANIC?

NO, NOT REALLY.

NOT REALLY?

WELL, NO.

I'M NOT A MECHANIC AT ALL,

ACTUALLY.

CAN YOU GIVE US A RIDE, THEN?

YES.

YES, I CAN DO THAT.

GROOVY.

HERE.

LET ME HELP YOU WITH THAT.

I GOT IT.

I DON'T NEED ANY HELP.

THIS ONE'S HEAVY.

THANKS.

I'M JOHN PATTERSON.

CAROL.

JODY.

THEODORA.

I TAKE IT YOU'RE NOT ON A

BEACH VACATION.
