INT. ARRIVAL - A MOMENT LATER
BUNYOD (LEANING OVER AND LOOKING AT AZIZ)
The plan is to go to the mountains and there we will already plan how to enter the gates of the city.
LOLA (SHOCKED)
Of the city?
BUNYOD (LOOKING INTO HER EYES)
Yes, we're going to the city.
LOLA:
me too?
BUNYOD:
Yes.
LOLA (HYSTERICAL) How do we get in there? And what are we going to do there?
BUNYOD (FROWNING) We'll go in there and find a way, and then you'll get rid of the professor.
LOLA (ANGRY)
I won't do that. Deal with your problems yourself, I'm here temporarily and I'm not going to kill anyone.
BUNYOD:
You have to.
LOLA (LIFTING HER CHIN UP)
What if I don't? Will you make me? Or will you kill me?
AZIZ (RAISES HIS HANDS TO CALM THEM DOWN) Let's get to the mountain first and then we'll discuss the rest, okay?
Lola and Bunyod glare at each other. Bunyod, turning away, goes up the stairs to another floor. The sounds of banging on the metal door are heard. Lola rolls her eyes. She pulls her hair back, looks at the floor, walks back and forth. Aziz and Madina look at her with pity, she sits down, leans the back of her head against the walls, hugs herself by the shoulders and lies down on the ground hugging herself.
INT.CORRIDOR
DARKNESS:
MADINA is 14 YEARS OLD, uncovered, walking in gray clothes with her hair down, holding food for her brother. CROWLEY is walking across from her. When he sees Madina, Crowley stops, smiles and starts walking towards her with a slow gait. Madina slows down. Looks at him. And she will start going faster. Crowley stops her.
CROWLEY:
To whom did you come?
MADINA (QUIETLY)
To my brother, he serves here. Mom handed him the food.
CROWLEY (LOOKING HER UP AND DOWN)
And where is she?
MADINA (LOOKING DOWN)
Got a little sick.
CROWLEY (PAUSING) Okay, go.
Crowley lets her through. She runs to the room opposite.
INT.SERVICE ROOM
Aziz and Bunyod are sitting and laughing. Madina comes in and smiles at them.
BUNYOD (SMILING) Haven't seen you for a long time.
MADINA (SMILING BACK)
2 years have passed.
AZIZ (RUNS UP TO HER AND HUGS HER JOYFULLY) Little Sister. Why didn't Mom come?
MADINA (LOOKING AT HIM AND STANDING IN AN EMBRACE)
She is sick, nothing serious, she has passed the examination, there is no virus.
AZIZ (HOLDING HER BY THE SHOULDERS)
Okay. Let her recover. And you've grown up. Say hello to everyone from us. Take care of mother and take care of our sister.
MADINA (SMILING) Don't worry. Okay, see you later.
Madina looks smiling at Bunyod and he nods, smiles back. Aziz hugs her again and walks her to the door. She leaves the room.
Aziz and Bunyod run up to the bowl, open it and look at the food, smile. They pounce on food, joking and pushing each other, laughing.
INT.CORRIDOR
Madina is walking down the corridor. The corridor is empty. She goes and when she passes through the doors of Crowley's room, the door opens and Crowley's hands close Madina's mouth, dragging her to the room. She resists.
We see in slow motion how her hand squeezes hard and lets go of the door. The door closes. We approach the door slowly.
After 5 seconds, Crowley leaves the room. There's sweat on his forehead, he's wiping it off. Looks around. He's leaving.
Two guards come and drag Madina by her legs and arms, whose front part of her clothes is torn. She is not conscious, there are traces of tears on her face. BLACKOUT
INT.ENTRANCE 1ST FLOOR – NIGHT
Lola opens her eyes, sits down, someone else's jacket is thrown on her, the jacket rolls down. Aziz and Bunyod are sleeping. Madina sits and looks through the crack. Looks at Lola for a second.
MADINA (LOOKING THROUGH THE CRACK QUIETLY) How does it feel to live in your time?
Lola watches in silence for 3 seconds. She doesn't know how to answer.
LOLA (POINTING WITH HER HANDS AROUND)
We don't have all that. Although, perhaps there is. I don't know. I didn't watch the news, I didn't have time. You know, after work.
Lola stops talking and looks at Madina, she doesn't understand a single word.
LOLA:
In general, we have a lot of things, even more, we are constantly celebrating something, walking the streets, quietly creating families.
MADINA (INTERRUPTING HER AND SIGHING AND LOOKING AWAY AND AT HER) I wish I could live there. With my family, with my brother, with my sister, with my mom and dad. Especially I would take my mother with me.
She pauses. Both are silent.
LOLA How old are you?
MADINA (QUIETLY AND WITHOUT LOOKING AT HER) 20.
LOLA:
And how long have you been here?
MADINA (A LITTLE ROUGHER) For 6 years now.
Lola is silent. She understands that she annoys Madina with questions.
MADINA (LOOKING AT HER AND ALREADY SOFTER)
Are you interested in how I ended up here?
LOLA (AVOIDING HER GAZE)
If you don't want to, you can keep quiet.
MADINA (LOOKS AT HER UNBLINKINGLY) I was raped.
Lola looks up sharply and looks at her.
MADINA (SMOOTHLY LOOKS AWAY)
And they threw me out like a garbage dump next to the mountains. Our people saved me. I didn't know about the existence of religion before. In the city it is forbidden to transfer knowledge to women. And my mother wasn't religious either. I understand she was afraid like everyone else.
Lola pats her hand and smiles awkwardly. She wants to comfort her. Madina looks at her hand and smiles gratefully.
LOLA (SLOWLY WITHDRAWING HER HAND)
Did you get hijab in the mountains?
Madina nods, looks away at Bunyod and Aziz. She looks through the crack.
LOLA (NODDING HER HEAD TOWARDS THE GUYS) Are you with them?
MADINA (LOOKING THROUGH THE CRACK)
I am always on the side of justice.
Lola looks at her.
EXT. STREET OF A 2–STOREY BUILDING - MORNING
They come out. They look around. Madina gives Lola a small knife in her hands. Lola looks at her hand where the knife is lying and looks up at Madina. Madina purses her lips.
EXT. DESERT
Heroes eat.
EXT. FOOTHILL MOUNTAINS
EXT. HIGH MOUNTAINS
EXT. FOOTHILLS OF THE MOUNTAINS
Lola looks down and recoils back in fright. Skeletons of people lie on the ground. Aziz will pat her on the shoulder. Bunyod and Madina climb the narrow path leading up. Lola looks at them. Aziz offers her his hand. She leans on it. They begin to rise. Aziz helps Lola to get up with him. Lola walks with difficulty. Aziz holds her back. Bunyod turns around and frowns at them and then at their hands. His muscles are twitching. Turns away and starts to climb faster. He's jealous.
Aziz looks after him and walks on with a grin. Lola looks after him and then looks at Aziz. She doesn't understand his reaction. Then they rise.
INT. ENTRANCE TO THE MOUNTAINS
Bunyod and Madina come in. They walk past two guards nodding to them and smiling. Then Aziz comes in and helps Lola in. Lola is suffocating. Holding her knees, she tries to catch her breath back to normal.
Looks at TWO ABOUT 40-year-olds with a gun on their shoulders. They smile at her and at Aziz. They nod to each other and Aziz and Lola go inside.
It's light inside. Lola is looking for a light source with her head. On top of the solar panels made of glass. Light comes inside, which brightens the space. We quickly go around the interior of the mountains. There's a harvest down here. People are working on them. They go back and forth. Two women over 50 are eating towards them while talking. Everyone is dressed in grayish shades, many women are covered. She looks at her clothes and feels them with her fingers. They keep going. There is a pregnant girl of 14-15 years old and follows them with her eyes, she does not smile. Lola looks at her, slows down. What she sees shocks her.
Lola looks at Madina. Madina nods her head. Lola covers her mouth with her hand, looks contemptuously straight, tears in her eyes. Two more pregnant 15-year-old girls are talking to each other. They're laughing. Lola looks at them and stops. Madina too.
