JENNA (CONT’D)

She thinks you aren’t yourself.

Haven’t been since you had that

‘accident’. And she thinks you’ve

been spending a disproportionate

amount of time staring at something

on your laptop which, at best

guess, isn’t work related... how

would you rate her assessment?

On Joe. Pretends to think.

JOE:

Six out of ten...

Jenna stares at him, tough now.

JENNA:

Sales are down thirteen percent on

last year. Thirteen.

JOE:

Unlucky for some

JENNA:

(she smiles a fraction)

Joe... I need you focused. Doing

what you do best - so whatever’s

going on in your life... and if

it’s something I can help with,

tell me -please, sort it out.

She goes... We hold on Joe. Looking at that laptop.

Joe in a computer shop, Computer guy looking at his laptop.

COMPUTER GUY:

It might need a start up repair or

it could be a loose connection...

JOE:

How quick can you do it?

COMPUTER GUY:

Pick it up tomorrow.

On Joe. Fine. Makes to leave, then doubles back...

JOE:

You don’t go into the programmes or

anything... it’s not porn or...

it’s just work stuff and...

Joe eating, looking at his family... eyeing them as theystare at their devices...

JOE:

Joe working away. Laptop on desk. Closed. Trying not to

look at it. Focusing on his work.

79 INT. COOPERS. CALL CENTRE - DAY 8 11.30 79

Joe giving a sales speech. Being funny. Laptop behind on

the desk. Joe trying to ignore it.

80 EXT. COOPERS. ROOF TERRACE - DAY 8 14.00 80

Roof terrace.

Smoking area. Joe smoking a fag alone. Drag after drag. On

his face. The addiction to the laptop is too strong...

screw it, he stubs the fag out. Heads away...

81 INT. COOPERS. TOILETS - DAY 8 14.05 81

Toilets. Joe staring at the laptop. Presses VIEW LIVE

option (seed this earlier) and waits as it scrolls into view.

And suddenly we see, in his house...

A man on the couch... good looking... no one he recognises...

staring at a computer... his wife (dressed tough, hair

dragged back, jeans and jacket) enters... they are all

discussing something... then the woman from the other day

appears... they are talking earnestly...

What the hell is this? He is watching, compelled... The man

produces A VIDEO CAMERA. On Joe... He eyes all the camera

views... as Belinda goes and grabs a bag to put it in. The

man produces a street map/A-Z (or computer print out)...

They’re going somewhere...

On Joe, decision made.

82 INT. COOPERS. CALL CENTRE - DAY 8 14.07 82

Joe marching through the call centre. Passing everyone.

HOLLY:

Where’s he going?

83 INT. JOE’S CAR - DAY 8 14.20 83

Joe driving like a lunatic to get home, super fast. Taking

all kinds of risks...

84 EXT. JOE’S HOUSE. STREET - DAY 8 14.38 84

Joe’s car pulls up to his street, but as he does, he sees the

man and the woman leaving his house, where ANOTHER MAN waits.

He stops. They head towards their cars ... then his wife

exits and goes to her car.

Joe watches. WTF...

As a convoy they all leave...

Joe decides to follow at a distance.

85 EXT. CITY CENTRE - DAY 8 14.48 85

The cars drive into the city centre. Joe following at a

subtle distance. They all head through the lights, which turn

red, but he can’t lose them, he ploughs on through the red

light and gets yelled at for his trouble...

86 EXT. MULTI-STOREY CAR PARK - DAY 8 14.50 86

The two cars park. Belinda and the others (men and woman)

get out. They confer. They agree something and then,

Belinda takes the video camera and heads off with Man One.

Man Two and the Woman head off in a different direction. Joe

watching from his car.

He quickly parks and sets off in pursuit of Belinda and Man

One. They head into the shopping area and weave through day

time crowds...

Joe following.

87 EXT. THE BROOKFIELD HOTEL - DAY 8 15.00 87

...and still following as Belinda and Man One arrive outside

a cheap IBIS type hotel right in the heart of the city, a

Costa type coffee place is outside. They linger.

Joe holds back. Belinda looks around, eyes scanning. Which

means she looks straight in this direction -

Joe dodges out of the way.

He watches as Belinda and Man One confer, they look across to

a man who is loitering outside Costa. He is in his 50s,

greying hair, bomber jacket, slim...

Belinda hands the video camera to man one and they go.

Joe follows, making sure he isn’t seen.

He manages to get close behind them as they approach the man

outside the cafe. What is happening...

Joe watches as Belinda approaches GREY HAIR MAN. Man One

immediately starts to film the encounter...

BELINDA:

Can I speak to you for a minute sir

-don’t worry, you’re not under

arrest - can I speak to you about

the reasons you are here Grey

Hair Man looks startled by what’s unfolding.

GREY HAIR MAN:

I’m just out shopping

BELINDA:

You’re not here to meet a fourteenyear-

old girl - if I call your

mobile right now it won’t ring

GREY HAIR MAN:

(eyes darting, rising

panic)

It might do...

BELINDA:

So you’re here to have sex with a

fourteen-year-old girl

GREY HAIR MAN:

(outraged)

What? NO.

On Joe, watching...

BELINDA:

(shows him a photo on her

phone)

Can you confirm that is your

profile picture...

GREY HAIR MAN:

(looks)

Yes...

The guy wants to bolt, but can’t, eyes the video camera,

knows his bolting would signify guilt.
