KOFI:

I’m surprisingly not tired. I’m just going to sit here and rest my head.

Kofi leans against the trunk of the Hareeri tree, his eyes heavy with fatigue. With a contented sigh, he falls asleep. Watching him with a sense of awe, Foz's heart swells with affection for her companion.

FLASHBACK. EARLY MORING

Outside their humble hut, bathed in the warm glow of the morning sun, young Foz and her father sit together, savouring the simple pleasure of sharing a cup of tea.

FOZ’S DAD

(laughs)

Steady, that’s a lot of sugar.

LITTLE FOZ I love sugar.

FOZ’S DAD

You know sugar isn’t healthy, it may come from plants, but it’s still not healthy.

LITTLE FOZ:

(gasps) Sugar comes from plants?

Lost in thought, Foz gazes into her cup.

FOZ’S DAD

Yes, it comes from cane.

Those long sticks, I’m sure you’ve seen it.

It grows in your uncle’s farm up in the North.

LITTLE FOZ:

(giggles) Wow!

Sugar grows? That’s funny.

FOZ’S DAD

Now you know.

You’re very smart.

With a playful grin, Foz's father lifts her onto his lap, his arms enveloping her in a warm embrace. With a mischievous twinkle in his eye, he begins to tickle her gently, eliciting giggles and laughter from his daughter.

EXT. - UNDER THE HAREERI TREE - MORNING

Foz stretches herself, with a soft tap on Kofi's shoulder,

she rouses him from his slumber.

FOZ Wake up.

KOFI I’m up, I’m up.

FOZ:

We need to go.

Let’s collect our things.

KOFI:

(yawns)

Oh, when did I sleep?

FOZ:

Like two hours ago.

Now we have the journey back. (takes a deep breath)

Come on, we can do this.

Foz and Kofi extinguish the flickering flames of their campfire and gather their belongings.

A brilliant blue light descends from the sky, illuminating the Hareeri tree. To their amazement, the tree's trunk parts and expands, revealing a portal with a clear view of home.

KOFI:

Wow, this is amazing.

It’s our way home!

FOZ Oh my God!

KOFI Shall we go in?

FOZ Yes, why not?

This is one miraculous-helpful tree. And after all a very magical journey!

KOFI:

(pats the tree’s bark) Thank you, tree!

With a quick step in, they teleport into their neighbourhood.

EXT. - BEHIND THE FAMILY HUT - MORNING

Foz and Kofi teleport safely, arriving right behind the family hut.

KOFI:

That was out of this world.

FOZ:

Oh, it’s so good to be home.

INT. - THE HUT - MORNING

Foz rushes inside the family hut to find her father.

FOZ:

(quietly) Dad. How are you?

FOZ’S DAD

(frail)

I’m ok, I’ll be fine. I’m glad you’re safe.

FOZ:

Yes, you’ll be fine. I’ve found the Yi’ib fruit. Well, me and Kofi did.

FOZ’S DAD

That’s good. But remember, only God heals. It may or may not work.

FOZ:

I know. There’s nothing wrong with trying and hoping for the best.

FOZ’S DAD Yes, you’re right.

You’re brave, smart, and I’m very proud to have you as a daughter.

EXT. - OUTSIDE THE HUT - SUNSET

As the sun dips below the horizon, Foz and her grandmother gather by a clay stove outside the family hut. With practiced hands, they chop up the fruit into small pieces.

They place the chopped fruit into a small pot, the sweet aroma of the yi’ib filling the air as it begins to simmer over the flames.

Foz takes up a large wooden spoon and begins to stir the contents with practiced ease. Kofi joins them by the stove, his gaze fixed intently on the bubbling mixture.

KOFI:

It’s producing a lot of liquid.

Is that good?

FOZ:

I think so. It says to make a drink.

KOFI:

Great, let me get a cup.

Foz ladles the steaming bluish liquid into a cup, the aroma of the yi'ib fruit filling the air as she carries it inside the family hut.

FOZ:

(sniffs) It smells like tea.

GRANDMA:

Yes, it does, take it in, give it to your dad. Be careful.

INT. - INSIDE THE HUT - NIGHT

The soft glow of the lantern casts a warm light around the room. With care, Foz places the lantern next to her father's bed.

Approaching her father's bedside with a loving smile. She assists him in sitting up, her hands gentle and supportive as she helps him settle into a comfortable position.

FOZ’S DAD Thank you.

FOZ:

You’ll get better soon. Hopefully with this tea. Don’t know how long it takes effect.

Kofi steps into the hut.

KOFI:

How are you uncle? How does it taste?

Foz looks at Kofi.

FOZ:

(whispers)

How long does it take to take effect? Does it say anything about time in the book?

KOFI:

Let me check it again.

Kofi reaches for the book nestled in Foz's backpack, his fingers tracing lightly over the worn cover and weathered pages.

KOFI (CONT'D)

It doesn’t say anything about how long it might take.

FOZ:

We’ll just wait then. And hope for the best.

KOFI:

Yep, we will. I need to go home, goodbye uncle. Hope you feel much better tomorrow.

As Foz's father catches Kofi's gaze, with a gentle smile and a wave of his hand, he acknowledges Kofi's presence.

Returning the smile, Kofi nods respectfully to Foz's father before stepping outside the hut.

EXT. - OUTSIDE THE HUT - NIGHT

Under the stars, Kofi makes his way towards Foz's grandmother. The distant chatter of neighbouring families

fills the air.

GRANDMA:

Kofi? Is that you? Where are you going?

KOFI:

Hello Grandma. I’m going home.

GRANDMA:

I see, just wanted to say… (she pauses)

Thank you for taking care of her on this spontaneous journey.

KOFI:

It was nothing. Besides, she took care of me more than you may think.

GRANDMA:

(smiles)

She is one brave girl. Well good night, dear.

KOFI:

Good night grandma, I’ll see you tomorrow.

EXT. - OUTSIDE THE HUT - MORNING

The bright sun rises over the grasslands. The air is filled with the sound of children's laughter as they play outside their huts. Nearby, goat herding boys exchange cheerful greetings as they gather their flocks and prepare to head out into the fields.

Foz’s dad, adorned in a bright red chequered shuka, moves gracefully through the village, his presence commands attention.

Meanwhile, Foz sits by a faucet on the ground, her hands

gently pouring water into a cup.

FOZ’S DAD Hello my dear.

Foz slowly turns her head to look back, her eyes widening in astonishment at the sight before her. Filled with an overwhelming sense of joy and gratitude, Foz leaps from her seat, her heart brimming with excitement as she reaches out for a hug.

FOZ:

(in awe)

Oh dad, it’s you, you’re better.

(gasps) How are you feeling?

FOZ’S DAD

I’m feeling good. I’m so proud of you, and we’ll be fine.

FOZ:

Take it easy dad, take a seat.

Would you like some tea?

FOZ’S DAD

Yes please.

(laughs)

I can’t say no to tea.

Foz reaches for the stool beside her, a silent invitation for her father to join her. Together, they sip tea. Just then, Kofi joins them, his presence adding to the warmth and camaraderie of the moment.

KOFI:

You’re looking good uncle. How are you feeling?

FOZ’S DAD

God is great, I’m doing much better.

KOFI:

I’m so glad to hear. The miracle fruit worked.

As the locals gather around, their faces filled with amazement and joy, Foz's father stands among them. Whispers of disbelief and wonder ripple through the crowd. Words like "he's walking" drift through the air, spoken in hushed tones. As the crowd grows larger, the chatter of voices begins to fade into the distance, replaced by a sense of unity and shared purpose.
