Reservation Road Page #6

Synopsis: On a warm September evening, college professor Ethan Learner, his wife Grace, and their daughter Emma are attending a recital. Their 10-year-old son Josh is playing cello - beautifully, as usual. His younger sister looks up to him, and his parents are proud of their son. On the way home, they all stop at a gas station on Reservation Road. There, in one terrible instant, he is taken from them forever. On a warm September evening, law associate Dwight Arno and his 11-year-old son Lucas are attending a baseball game. Their favorite team, the Red Sox, is playing - and, hopefully, heading for the World Series. Dwight cherishes his time spent with Lucas. Driving his son back to his ex-wife, Lucas' mother Ruth Wheldon, Dwight heads towards his fateful encounter at Reservation Road. The accident happens so fast that Lucas is all but unaware, while Ethan - the only witness - is all too aware, as a panicked Dwight speeds away. The police are called, and an investigation begins. Put your arms together.

Go. Look away. Turn away.

Okay, go. That car.

Don't look. Just go.

Listen to me.

Don't do this.

Stay there.

Don't look at me.

Don't do this.

Turn around.

Take me to the police.

Take you to the police?

So you can weasel

your way out with

I swear to God,

you get in the...

Take me to the police,

Ethan.

Why? So you can f***ing

deceive and manipulate?

Take me to the police. Take...

Get out.

Turn me in.

Just turn me in!

Get out.

Oh, God, don't shoot me.

Please don't shoot me.

Get out. Out!

Get out! Out!

Please don't shoot.

You f***ing animal!

Get out or I'll kill you

Get out!

Come on, it was an accident.

Shut up. Shut up! Go.

Jesus Christ!

It was an accident.

It wasn't an accident.

You don't drive away

from an accident!

You just left!

I was scared!

I'm telling you,

don't do this.

Don't ruin your life

the way I've ruined mine.

Turn around.

You robbed me

of my life.

You left my boy

on the side of the road

You have ruined my family!

And you look at me in the face

and you deceive me

You deserve to die.

You killed my son!

You killed my son!

Stop it. Stop it!

It's over. It's over.

Get up. Get up. Get up!

You want me to kill myself?

Tell me to do it! Tell me!

Not a f***ing day goes by

where I don't see

hitting my car

and going off into the dark!

I wish it were me.

Tell me to do it.

Please, tell me to do it.

Please, tell me to do it.

Please.

I'm dead anyway.

I'm dead.

Oh, God,

please don't leave me here!

Please forgive me.

Please forgive me.

I'm sorry.

I can't.

I can't. Please.

I miss him so much.

I know.

I'm sorry.

I'm so sorry.

Let's go inside.

I left that night because...

...I was really afraid

that I was going to lose you.

That's no excuse.

What I did was wrong.

I'm going to be

going to prison

and I deserve to go to prison.

I just want you

to remember that

these last days that

we had together

and I feel like

I've been able to be

that you really deserve.

I guess what I'm just trying

to say is that I'm sorry.
