The Others Page #7

Synopsis: A woman named Grace retires with her two children to a mansion on Jersey, towards the end of the Second World War, where she's waiting for her husband to come back from battle. The children have a disease which means they cannot be touched by direct sunlight without being hurt in some way. They will live alone there with oppressive, strange and almost religious rules, until she needs to hire a group of servants for them. Their arrival will accidentally begin to break the rules with unexpected consequences.

And that was the last time

she ever spoke.

But I couldn't tell you

that before now.

Shall I make us

a nice cup of tea, ma'am?

The intruders are leaving...

but others will come.

Now, sometimes we'll sense them.

other times, we won't.

But that's the way

it's always been.

Ma'am.

NICHOLAS:
Mummy...

Daddy died in the war,

didn't he?

GRACE:
Yes.

Will we ever see him again?

I don't know.

If we're dead, where's limbo?

I don't know

if there even is a limbo.

I'm no wiser than you are.

But I do know that I love you.

I've always loved you.

And this house is ours.

You say it with me.

This house is ours.

NICHOLAS:

This house is ours.

This house is ours.

Mummy, look.

It doesn't hurt any more.

No one can make us

leave this house.

Come along, Victor.
