The Stoneman Murders Page #2

Synopsis: After the sudden death of a suspect in custody, Sub-Inspector Sanjay Shellar from Bombay's Special Crime Unit gets suspended. Shortly thereafter the police come across a recently deceased corpse of a homeless person, treat it as a random killing and close the file. But when more pavement dwellers are killed only between the hours of 10 PM and 4 AM in the Sion - Matunga Harbor Line area on Tuesdays and Saturdays, they review their decision and conclude this to be the work of a serial killer. Sanjay approaches A.I.G. Satam and pleads with him to handle this incident but is told that he cannot do so as he has been fired. When he insists, Satam asks him to do this on his own, and if successful, he will approach Mantralaya and have him reinstated. A grateful Sanjay commences his investigation - not aware that soon he will himself become a suspect after police come across evidence linking him to these killings.

something there. Come...

come on! Come on!

- But...

come on!

Kamble, hurry up!

His name is mohammed razak.

He used to work for haji mastan.

Now he drives a cab.

That's ruksana. She's a hot

favourite with haji's men.

How much?

Don't you know? Rs. 50

and if you take too long,

i'll charge extra.

What happened?

She's very shameless sir.

You do it yourself.

Go home.

Only rs. 20

I just need some information.

The rate for that is double.

Sit.

Where can I find mohammed razak?

- How should I know?

Isn't he your customer?

I don't ask my

customers their names.

But, late night cabbies usually...

dine at chhote

miyan's stall in wadala.

That's the only stall that

remains open all through the night.

Give me a chicken roll.

Hasn't mohammed come today?

Who's mohammed?

- That cab driver.

Oh yeah... mohammed, the cab driver

- Yes, him.

No, he hasn't come as yet.

He comes around this

hour everyday. Doesn't he?

Yes, he comes at this hour.

You've got some work with him?

No, not really.

Tell me if you have

some work with him.

I'll pass on your message.

No, no... it's he who told me

about your stall. - I see.

It's very good!

- Thanks.

Hello...

'sanjay! There's

been another murder! '

'Sanjay! Satam here!

There's been another murder! '

'Check it out. I'm hanging up now! '

Yes! Sir! Sir!

There've been 4-5

murders before this too...

but who was this poor guy?

I think it is ghanshu.

- Ghanshu? Who?

Ghanshyam, the drug addict.

Come on! Move! Move!

Move! Move! Go back!

Move! Move! Come on!

Get back!

- Get back!

Start the proceedings.

- Okay sir.

Who is that?

Give me the tape!

- Give me the tape!

Here sir.

5 feet, 4 inches. Send the

dead body for post-mortem.

And quickly call mr. Kedar.

- Okay.

Gaikwad!

Note this in the record

book as a piece of evidence.

And send it to the forensic lab.

- Okay sir.

Tell me something, sanjay...

do you suspect anyone?

Yes.

Who?

Bandra east?

- I'm eating.

Finish your dinner.

We'll move after that.

What time is chhote

miyan's stall open till?

Is it this crowded everyday?

I've heard people come from all

over bombay just for these kebabs.

What?

Stop the car.

Stop the car!

Wait for a moment.

Let me buy a cigarette.

Give me a single panama.

You're still awake?

How did this happen?

Somebody threw a stone in.

What time did it happen?

Who did it? Did you see him?

Why are you interrogating me?

Why don't you fix

these neighbourhood boys?

The great policeman that you are!

This is the third

time this has happened!

The other day their ball came in,

today this stone came in...

are their parents

going to pay for this?

Sir, along with

mohammed's address...

I got some other

info from the rto office.

The rto officials

were saying that...

our senior officers thrashed

this man so badly in the lock-up...

that he lost his mental balance.

And he started behaving strangely.

Now god alone knows

what the truth is.

Where's mohammed?

- I don't know!

Where's mohammed?

- I don't know!

What's going on?

Hey!

What are you doing? What is this?

Where's mohammed?

Where's mohammed?

Where is mohammed?

He's gone away!

- Where has he gone?

He left the neighbourhood.

- When did he leave?

Today, in the morning. He

packed his bags and left.

He left behind the cab too.

He took all the things

inside his cab and he left.

What is this? How many

earrings will you wear?

Sir!

Sir, mohammed has gone missing.

I see. Alright, you continue

your investigation. - Right sir.

What are you doing

here at this hour?

Nothing in particular...

cigarette? It's your brand.

I'm not in the mood.

Come on! Let's have some

free dinner at khurshid's stall.

These are the joys of

being in the police force.

Keeping a watch over the others?

You guys take turns

in keeping a watch?

Do you know anything

about this... stoneman?

Sit! Sit! Sit! I

am a policeman! Sit!

It's crude wool sir. Shoddy wool.

You won't find it in bombay.

Why?

It has to be shipped

in from mahabaleshwar.

The tribal people in

the forests there...

produce it for

their personal use.

Sure?

Sir, this is my bread and butter.

Hello...

sir, sanjay here.

Sanjay, it's good

that you called me.

Commissioner ribiero

has ordered 40 policemen

to be stationed on night duty...

between sion and matunga.

So, i think you should

stop investigating this case.

Sir...

look, kedar doesn't know that

i've asked you to carry out...

a parallel

investigation of this case.

If he finds out,

i'll be in trouble.

Sir, how can kedar harm you?

If kedar files a

complaint against the dept...

i'll be in trouble.

Sir, don't worry about that.

I won't let anyone know,

under any circumstance...

that i'm doing

this with your consent.

Sir, i promise you.

Okay. Fine. But please, be careful.

Okay sir.

Play your move.

At least gamble on rs.10.

Come on, beautiful!

What? Not now?

The weather is romantic.

Sir, check out gaikwad.

- Yeah, he has his hands full.

Look, what he's doing.

Sir, gaikwad had a

good time at charni road.

No sir!

Come on!

What happened?

He's struck again.

Take him to the hospital.

Yes sir. That's what we are doing.

Gaikwad, call for the ambulance.

- Yes.

Calm down! Calm down!

Gaikwad, hand me a handkerchief.

Bandage the wound.

Don't worry. I'm

dressing the wound.

We'll take you to the hospital.

Bandage it! Bandage it!

Come on!

Carry him! Carry him!

Uncle, calm down. We are

taking you to the hospital.

Nothing will happen to you.

It was a ghost sir!

It was a spirit!

He had no eyes. He had no nose.

He had no lips. He had no features.

Oh my god! Oh my god!

Sir, it's pointless.

Everything happened so fast

that he could not see anything.

And whatever he saw,

he does not remember.

Also, it was pitch dark.

After coming this far, we

are again back to square one.

'The notorious

stoneman of bombay... '

'... has yet not been

apprehended by the police.'

'This killer has

claimed seven lives.'

'The residents of...

'... the sion-matunga belt are... '

'... afraid to step out of

their homes after dark... '

'the entire city is

living in fear... '

'the chief minister

of maharashtra... '

'... mr. Vasantrao patil, has asked

the state police commissioner... '

'... mr. J.f. Riberio to

look into this case... '

sanjay

- Yeah?

Where exactly do

you go every night?

I go to work.

Where else would i go?

Sanjay, what work?

I'd told you that mr. Satam

has allotted a case to me.

I go for work

connected to that case.

But the entire night?

You come home at 6 in the morning.

So what's new? I've

worked 36 hours at a stretch.

It's part of my job.

Yeah, but you never stayed out...

all night like this.

This case is like that.

Can't be helped.

Sanjay, what

goddamned case is this!?

What's come over you?

What case is this...

what case is this...!?

Manali, you know that in

our special crimes unit...

we are not supposed to

discuss cases with our families.
