TomKat: Double Impact Page #5

Season #All
Synopsis: We describe our story as Jack Reacher meets Hanna with a touch of Thin Man savoir vivre tossed in. A story that had to be told. A love story of tremendous impact. A story of a small group of people willing to risk everything to stop the most serious threat to Western Civilization in modern history. There comes a time when a citizen must fulfill the requirements of the constitution if the government fails in its obligation. TomKat: Double Impact is one of these stories.

INT. THE FORD HOME -

DAY.

Tom is on

the phone.

TOM:

Yes, I would like to work in

finance...just like Gordon Gecko – greed is good and all those great 1980s principles. I met a girl in London who called me a Randian hero – 'tall, blond, intelligent, ruggedly handsome and well-built.' I took it as a compliment, although she probably didn't intend it as one. She was a communist.

His parents laugh at their son's experience

DR. FORD (turning serious)

You would do well in finance, you only need to get your foot in the door. However, that would be difficult, as you have no college degrees. They do like their credentials.

AMELIA:

Perhaps we can speak to Professor

Gaffney, your old economics tutor, to provide a few leads and a possible recommendation. He always praised your grasp of the subject and urged you to matriculate into the college.

TOM:

That would be great, Mom.

with a Red.

PROF. GAFFNEY

Your first interview is with

Jameson Lorimer of the old-line uber-WASP firm Spence, Brownell and Townsend.

TOM:

It looks like I have to do a

little work to impress Mr. Jameson Lorimer.

24.

PROF. GAFFNEY Absolutely, but he doesn't impress

easily.

TOM:

What else can you tell me about

Jameson Lorimer?

PROF. GAFFNEY

He has two interests aside from

his job and family: The New York Giants and Rubik's Cubes.

TOM:

I'm a Patriot's fan. We'll skip

the football talk. What his thing with Rubik's cubes?

PROF. GAFFNEY

He loves Rubik's Cubes...believes it good exercise for his mind. He

always keeps one on his desk.

TOM FORD:

Very interesting, professor.

Thanks for the information.

INT. SPENCE, BROWNELL & TOWNSEND - RECEPTION AREA - DAY

Tom exits the elevator and walks to a pretty young RECEPTIONIST. A name plate gives him the name of the receptionist

TOM:

Good morning, Miss Wilson. I am

Tom Ford and have an appointment with Mr. Lorimer.

MISS WILSON:

Yes, Mr. Lorimer is expecting you.

The receptionist dials Jameson.

MISS WILSON (CONT'D) Mr. Lorimer, Mr. Tom Ford is here

to see you.

She puts down the phone, smiles and looks at Tom Ford.

MISS WILSON:

Mr. Lorimer will see you. His

office is in that door to the left.

25.

TOM:

Thank you, Miss Wilson.

Tom enters the office and JAMESON LORIMER, an early middle- aged man, of average height, but of ramrod straight posture, clean shaven and a full head of black hair, stands to greet him. Lorimer smiles a perfect professional smile as he shakes Tom's hand. Tom looks at the Rubik's cube on the corner of the desk.

Tom picks

JAMESON:

(looking curious)

No. Of course not.

up the cube and starts solving it.

TOM:

I realize that I am an unusual

interview, coming here without the requisite school credentials But I appreciate this opportunity.

TOM FORD (CONT'D) Are you a cuber?

JAMESON:

Why, yes. I play to relieve the

many tensions

It also keeps

TOM That is does.

found at this job. the mind sharp.

Do you mind?

Tom continues to solve the cube as he speaks.

TOM (CONT'D) However, I believe that SBT

Worldwide could benefit by employing my skills.

Tom Ford quietly places the solved cube on the desk. He solves it in under 20 seconds.

JAMESON:

(now astounded)

Please sit down Mr. Ford.

INT. TOM'S CUBICLE AT SBT - DAY.

Tom Ford's supervisor, MARTIN PAXTON,a Japanese-American man, 30 years old, average height, fit condition walks up to Tom Ford's desk.

26.

MARTIN PAXTON:

Tom, I just wrote your six months

evaluation. (Martin hands it to Tom) Don't worry, I gave you an A plus but there is something that disturbs me.

TOM FORD:

(looking concerned)

What's that, Martin?

MARTIN:

We are supposed to look pale,

overworked, and exhausted, not like Tarzan on steroids. It is our charade we assume for our clients. It assures them they are getting their money's worth.

TOM:

Well, I do workout fairly

regularly.

MARTIN:

No sh*t, and here I assumed you

had a rare disease. Tom laughs.

MARTIN (CONT'D)

Do you want to join me for my

weekly run? I run the six-mile Central Park Loop. I run for time, always trying to keep it under thirty-six minutes.

TOM:

That would be great. When do we

start?

MARTIN Tomorrow after work.

LATER.

Tom at his desk. The phone rings and Tom picks it up.

TOM:

Tom Ford, SBT International.

27.

JACKIE:

(Voice heard from the

telephone)

Mr. Ford, this is your old Ranger buddy, Jackie Brandt. How are you?

TOM:

Couldn't be better...and you?

JACKIE:

Still with DIA, but I am

Lieutenant Colonel Brandt today.

TOM:

Congratulations!

JACKIE:

Thank you. Can you meet for drinks

after work?

TOM:

Yes, I should be finished here by

six.

JACKIE:

Good! Let's meet at the Landmark

Tavern at 11th Avenue and 44th at 6:30.

TOM:

I know it. See you there at 6:30.

EXT. THE LANDMARK TAVERN. ESTABLISHING. EARLY EVENING. INT. THE LANDMARK TAVERN - EARLY EVENING

Tom walks in the tavern looks around and sees Jackie sitting in a corner table. He walks over, Jackie rises, they shake hands and then sit down.

TOM:

Let me guess. You still want to

recruit me into your cell?

JACKIE:

Yes.

TOM:

Why not recruit a military sniper.

Someone retired?

28.

JACKIE:

We already have a few on our team,

but you are ideal. Ex-military snipers are the first suspects after an assassination. You are a respectable businessman. Who would think of looking at you? Besides, you are a better marksman than most snipers.

TOM:

Well I spoke to my parents about

your offer and they are wholeheartedly behind it. They realize the dangers involved but believe I can save lives.

Jackie reaches into his briefcase and hands Tom a file.

JACKIE:

Your first target. Zayan Hussein.

TOM Who is he?

JACKIE:

Zayan Hussein is the top recruiter for the Islamic State. He recruited many lone wolves, most of whom, operate in our country. He is responsible for the assassinations of more than a dozen officials, including two American civilians working for us. However, British prosecutors in their brilliant evaluation of Hussein merely regarded him a bored youth. They asked for and he received only a six-month term. The truth is Hussein is a talented but dangerous jihadist. Our intelligence determined he would smuggled to Syria after he is released from prison next month to expand his efforts of recruitment and hacking. Zayan Hussein's freedom will result in many more deaths. We must stop him. Here are the details of the hit.

Jackie pulls out another file and hands it to Tom Ford.
