The fare went up. Did you know that?

983

01:
15:02,506 -- 01:15:03,780

- Yes.

- You knew that?

984

01:
15:03,946 -- 01:15:05,698

I didn't know anything about that.

985

01:
15:05,866 -- 01:15:08,903

I haven't got enough money to get home

until I meet a bartender...

986

01:
15:09,066 -- 01:15:10,977

...a nice guy who wanted

to lend me money.

987

01:
15:11,146 -- 01:15:13,899

I mean, he really wanted

to give me the money...

988

01:
15:14,066 -- 01:15:17,138

I mean, they'd actually purchased

this piece of work here.

989

01:
15:17,306 -- 01:15:19,262

I didn't know anything about that.

990

01:
15:19,426 -- 01:15:22,338

She's also pissed off at me,

and for this I don't blame her...

991

01:
15:22,506 -- 01:15:24,736

...for the way I treated her friend.

Inexcusable.

992

01:
15:24,906 -- 01:15:27,978

So I march in there to apologize,

but she'd already killed herself.

993

01:
15:28,146 -- 01:15:29,465

I was too late.

994

01:
15:29,626 -- 01:15:34,063

And he was about to give me the money

when all of a sudden his phone rang.

995

01:
15:34,226 -- 01:15:35,978

His girlfriend killed herself tonight.

996

01:
15:36,146 -- 01:15:39,218

Is that a coincidence?

No, because the same girl...

997

01:
15:39,386 -- 01:15:41,456

...who I came downtown to see

was dead too.

998

01:
15:41,626 -- 01:15:44,743

That's because they're the same person.

They're both dead.

999

01:
15:44,906 -- 01:15:46,225

I couldn't believe that.

1000

01:
15:46,386 -- 01:15:49,458

He didn't know that I came down to,

you know... his girlfriend...

1001

01:
15:49,626 -- 01:15:53,255

...because he would have taken my face

and he would have smashed it.

1002

01:
15:53,426 -- 01:15:57,465

Luckily, there was this girl, who saw

everything, who let me use her phone.

1003

01:
15:57,626 -- 01:16:00,345

Really nice about it too.

Let me use the phone. That was it.

1004

01:
16:00,506 -- 01:16:02,895

Just use it. Pick it up and put it down.

Up and down.

1005

01:
16:03,066 -- 01:16:06,263

Now she's the one in the ice cream truck

who's trying to kill me!

1006

01:
16:06,706 -- 01:16:10,096

They're all trying to kill me.

I just wanted to leave my apartment...

1007

01:
16:10,266 -- 01:16:14,657

...maybe meet a nice girl.

And now I've gotta die for it!

1008

01:
16:15,106 -- 01:16:18,735

That's the girl. That is Julie.

That's her. Look.

1009

01:
16:18,946 -- 01:16:21,460

Julie! Julie, it's me!

1010

01:
16:21,626 -- 01:16:23,662

What are you doing? Come here.

1011

01:
16:23,826 -- 01:16:27,739

Oh, God. That's the one.

That's the one. Unbelievable.

1012

01:
16:33,946 -- 01:16:34,935

Oh.

1013

01:
16:36,346 -- 01:16:38,177

Oh.

1014

01:
16:38,626 -- 01:16:39,900

No.

1015

01:
16:44,986 -- 01:16:47,136

Oh...

1016

01:
16:47,306 -- 01:16:49,297

[ICE CREAMS TRUCK JINGLE PLAYS]

1017

01:
16:52,666 -- 01:16:53,781

MAN:

Hey!

1018

01:
17:13,546 -- 01:17:15,264

What's the matter with you?

1019

01:
17:18,506 -- 01:17:20,622

You've gotta help me.

You've gotta help me.

1020

01:
17:20,786 -- 01:17:22,299

Get ahold of yourself, okay?

1021

01:
17:22,506 -- 01:17:24,861

- Can he get a glass of water?

- You gotta tell them.

1022

01:
17:25,026 -- 01:17:28,382

Tell them it's not my fault.

I didn't do it. I didn't do it.

1023

01:
17:28,546 -- 01:17:30,377

You've gotta make things

clearer to me.

1024

01:
17:30,546 -- 01:17:33,299

I just got back from the morgue.

I'm not thinking too straight.

1025

01:
17:33,466 -- 01:17:36,026

Listen. There's an angry mob

that wants to kill me...

1026

01:
17:36,186 -- 01:17:38,222

...because they think

I'm robbing apartments.

1027

01:
17:38,386 -- 01:17:40,502

I had keys to your apartment,

I didn't rob you.

1028

01:
17:40,666 -- 01:17:43,385

I could've robbed you blind,

but I didn't. I'm not a thief.

1029

01:
17:43,546 -- 01:17:46,140

I'm not a thief. Right?

1030

01:
17:46,306 -- 01:17:47,819

I'm not a thief.

1031

01:
17:48,586 -- 01:17:51,146

All right. All right. Stay here.

1032

01:
17:51,306 -- 01:17:52,739

Wait! Where are you going?

1033

01:
17:52,906 -- 01:17:54,703

- To get your keys.

- Okay.

1034

01:
17:55,106 -- 01:17:58,781

Thank you. Thank you.

Go ahead. I'll be right here.

1035

01:
17:58,946 -- 01:18:01,301

- Just relax.

- I will, I will.

1036

01:
18:06,186 -- 01:18:07,619

Thanks.

1037

01:
18:45,466 -- 01:18:48,026

[ICE CREAM TRUCK JINGLE PLAYS]

1038

01:
18:48,186 -- 01:18:49,938

[NEIGHBORS CHATTERING]

1039

01:
18:58,466 -- 01:19:00,263

GAIL:

He's in here!

1040

01:
19:30,826 -- 01:19:32,544

What can I do for you?

1041

01:
19:35,706 -- 01:19:38,982

- Why so empty?

- Invitation only.

1042

01:
19:42,746 -- 01:19:44,623

Then where is everybody?

1043

01:
19:44,786 -- 01:19:48,062

Beats me. Must have stayed home.

1044

01:
19:52,186 -- 01:19:53,585

Who's she?

1045

01:
19:55,346 -- 01:19:59,385

Oh, that's June. She's always here.

Usually nobody notices her.

1046

01:
20:01,906 -- 01:20:06,138

If you're interested, you better hurry.

I'm closing up in a few minutes.

1047

01:
20:24,106 -- 01:20:27,621

[PEGG Y LEE'S

"IS THAT ALL THERE IS?" PLAYS]

1048

01:
21:10,826 -- 01:21:13,386

PAUL:

Excuse me, miss. I...

1049

01:
21:13,666 -- 01:21:17,022

I couldn't help noticing you

and I wondered...

1050

01:
21:18,626 -- 01:21:20,025

...would you...

1051

01:
21:20,666 -- 01:21:22,145

...care to...

1052

01:
21:23,386 -- 01:21:26,139

...join me for a drink?

1053

01:
21:28,866 -- 01:21:30,618

Just talking?

1054

01:
21:31,386 -- 01:21:33,342

I'm having a really...

1055

01:
21:34,706 -- 01:21:36,662

...really bad night...

1056

01:
21:37,786 -- 01:21:40,903

...and I can't seem to find anyone...

1057

01:
21:43,386 -- 01:21:47,379

...who just will sit with me for just...

1058

01:
21:48,506 -- 01:21:52,545

Without yelling at me

or something, you know?

1059

01:
21:54,866 -- 01:21:57,539

I obviously wouldn't approach you

in this state...

1060

01:
21:59,146 -- 01:22:00,784

...were I not so...

1061

01:
22:01,306 -- 01:22:03,217

...unusually...

1062

01:
22:06,746 -- 01:22:08,304

...intrigued.

1063

01:
22:10,986 -- 01:22:12,624

Well.

1064

01:
22:14,466 -- 01:22:15,819

There.

1065

01:
22:21,746 -- 01:22:23,498

I bared my soul to you.

1066

01:
22:28,666 -- 01:22:30,065

May I?

1067

01:
22:52,506 -- 01:22:54,542

[KNOCKING]

1068

01:
23:09,826 -- 01:23:12,135

JUNE:
Why are you doing this?

PAUL:
What?

1069

01:
23:14,466 -- 01:23:16,218

You flirt with me...

1070

01:
23:16,906 -- 01:23:19,295

...you share your cigarette with me...

1071

01:
23:19,906 -- 01:23:21,862

...you dance with me.

1072

01:
23:22,746 -- 01:23:24,737

You're nice to me.

1073

01:
23:26,266 -- 01:23:28,018

Why are you doing this?

1074

01:
23:33,386 -- 01:23:34,899

I want...

1075

01:
23:38,026 -- 01:23:40,620

...to live.

- Okay, sorry, folks. Closing up.

1076

01:
23:41,306 -- 01:23:43,456

- I just...

- Time to go home.

1077

Joseph Minion

Joseph Minion (born 1957 in Teaneck, New Jersey) is an American film director and screenwriter, best known for Martin Scorsese's After Hours (1985). Born in New Jersey in 1957, Minion briefly attended NYU Film School before finishing his studies at Columbia University, then renowned for its screenwriting program. In 1984, Minion's script for After Hours was optioned by Griffin Dunne and Amy Robinson, the latter a former actress who'd appeared as Harvey Keitel's damaged girlfriend in Scorsese's Mean Streets (1973). Robinson sent Minion's screenplay to Scorsese, whose Last Temptation of Christ had recently fallen through; production on After Hours started shortly afterward. Later, it surfaced that Minion had plagiarized portions of After Hours from radio host Joe Frank, who sued and settled for an undisclosed sum.Minion continued his screenwriting career with 1987's Julia and Julia starring Kathleen Turner; 1989's Vampire's Kiss, starring Nicolas Cage; Motorama (1991); and On the Run (1999). He also worked again with Martin Scorsese in 1986 for an episode of Amazing Stories, "Mirror, Mirror".As a director, Minion made his debut for producer Roger Corman with 1987's Daddy's Boys, said to have been thrown together at the last minute to make use of standing sets for Big Bad Mama II. His last outing as director was for another low-budget feature, Trafficking (1999). more…
