...I've got 97 cents.

- No.

401

00:
32:31,398 -- 00:32:33,992

- It's raining like mad out there.

- No.

402

00:
32:34,478 -- 00:32:37,356

Would you just give me a break?

I really just wanna go home.

403

00:
32:37,518 -- 00:32:39,907

I'm sorry, I can't do that.

I could lose my job.

404

00:
32:42,158 -- 00:32:44,353

Who would know, exactly?

405

00:
32:44,518 -- 00:32:48,830

I could go to a party, get drunk,

talk to someone. Who knows?

406

00:
32:48,998 -- 00:32:50,556

Would you give me

a goddamn token?!

407

00:
32:50,718 -- 00:32:53,755

No, goddamn it! I can't give you a token.

Those tokens are $ 1.50.

408

00:
32:53,918 -- 00:32:56,512

I can't sell them for 97 cents.

We'd lose money that way.

409

00:
32:56,678 -- 00:32:59,909

All right, there's the train. Come on,

give me a token! Come on!

410

00:
33:07,358 -- 00:33:10,236

- Can I help you?

- Yeah, I wanted to take the Express.

411

00:
33:10,398 -- 00:33:12,036

I mean, it was the other way around.

412

00:
33:12,198 -- 00:33:15,474

- I'm talking to you.

- I know. I'm sorry.

413

00:
33:15,638 -- 00:33:18,232

I've never done that.

I don't know what came over me.

414

00:
33:18,398 -- 00:33:20,195

The fares went up and I have 97 cents.

415

00:
33:20,358 -- 00:33:23,873

I won't even take the train.

I won't even take it. I'm sorry.

416

00:
33:24,238 -- 00:33:25,591

That's my train.

417

00:
33:25,758 -- 00:33:27,874

That's the one I wanted. Thanks a lot.

418

00:
33:30,238 -- 00:33:32,069

COP:

Must be a full moon out there.

419

00:
33:50,598 -- 00:33:52,907

[MUSIC PLAYS]

420

00:
34:39,078 -- 00:34:40,716

Can I get you something?

421

00:
34:41,278 -- 00:34:43,075

I have 97 cents.

422

00:
34:45,158 -- 00:34:46,671

That's not very much, is it?

423

00:
34:46,838 -- 00:34:49,557

No. No, it's not.

424

00:
34:51,038 -- 00:34:54,713

Do I have to order something?

I mean, can I just sit here for a minute?

425

00:
34:57,238 -- 00:34:59,433

- Yes. Sure.

- Thanks.

426

00:
34:59,598 -- 00:35:01,270

Any time.

427

00:
35:51,118 -- 00:35:54,076

[PEEING]

428

00:
36:35,158 -- 00:36:36,591

What'll it be?

429

00:
36:39,318 -- 00:36:41,957

I don't want anything.

I just wanna sit here.

430

00:
36:42,118 -- 00:36:43,631

Is that okay?

431

00:
36:43,798 -- 00:36:45,390

- Sure.

- Thanks.

432

00:
36:45,838 -- 00:36:49,194

But if you're looking to make friends,

don't get your hopes up.

433

00:
36:49,398 -- 00:36:51,468

Looks like a pretty slow night.

434

00:
36:53,478 -- 00:36:56,072

Yeah. Well...

435

00:
36:56,238 -- 00:36:58,877

- It is late.

- Not for this place.

436

00:
36:59,078 -- 00:37:00,989

Things are usually hopping

around now.

437

00:
37:01,158 -- 00:37:04,468

That's all right, really.

I just wanted to get in out of the rain.

438

00:
37:04,958 -- 00:37:07,916

I just hope it lets up soon.

439

00:
37:09,398 -- 00:37:12,629

- I really just wanna go home.

- Aren't the subways running?

440

00:
37:14,718 -- 00:37:16,709

But I happen to be broke

at the moment, see.

441

00:
37:17,958 -- 00:37:21,394

Christ. I'll give you the money. Poor guy.

442

00:
37:21,558 -- 00:37:23,947

Really? I can't tell you how much

that would mean to me.

443

00:
37:24,118 -- 00:37:25,153

[KNOCKING]

444

00:
37:25,958 -- 00:37:29,268

- Oh, Christ. Not another one.

- What? Another what?

445

00:
37:30,478 -- 00:37:34,027

Guy lives in the same building as me.

He's been here three times tonight...

446

00:
37:34,198 -- 00:37:37,474

...to tell me about three burglaries

in this neighborhood, all tonight.

447

00:
37:38,038 -- 00:37:39,710

- Sh*t.

- What?

448

00:
37:40,158 -- 00:37:41,432

What?

449

00:
37:41,598 -- 00:37:45,113

I'm just trying to remember if I turned

my burglar alarm on at home tonight.

450

00:
37:45,278 -- 00:37:46,916

Sometimes I forget.

451

00:
37:47,318 -- 00:37:49,388

Oh, well, anyway.

452

00:
37:59,238 -- 00:38:01,308

[REGISTER DINGING]

453

00:
38:04,758 -- 00:38:06,828

That's all right. It's all right.

454

00:
38:08,478 -- 00:38:11,038

That's all right. Forget it.

Doesn't matter.

455

00:
38:11,198 -- 00:38:13,758

I'd like to open the register.

What if I got a rush now?

456

00:
38:13,918 -- 00:38:15,556

Yeah, I see your point.

457

00:
38:16,198 -- 00:38:17,870

What about a key?

Do you have a key?

458

00:
38:18,038 -- 00:38:21,997

- Yeah, but I keep it up in my apartment.

- Damn. That's too bad.

459

00:
38:23,678 -- 00:38:26,875

Listen, I can't go anywhere,

but how'd you like to do me a favor?

460

00:
38:27,038 -- 00:38:28,596

- For subway fare?

- Lf you don't mind.

461

00:
38:28,758 -- 00:38:31,591

- You got it.

- I'm at 158 Spring Street, top floor.

462

00:
38:31,798 -- 00:38:34,551

Wait a minute.

What am I doing?

463

00:
38:35,718 -- 00:38:37,037

Right.

464

00:
38:37,798 -- 00:38:39,948

You don't know me,

I don't know you.

465

00:
38:40,118 -- 00:38:43,110

I might rip you off, right?

Is that what you're thinking?

466

00:
38:44,798 -- 00:38:47,312

I'm not gonna rip you off. I'm not.

467

00:
38:47,478 -- 00:38:49,230

With what I've been through tonight...

468

00:
38:49,398 -- 00:38:52,310

...the last thing I wanna do

is steal from somebody.

469

00:
38:52,478 -- 00:38:54,594

I really just wanna get home.

470

00:
38:55,118 -- 00:38:56,392

Look, here.

471

00:
38:56,558 -- 00:38:58,947

Here are my keys.

This is my deposit, okay?

472

00:
38:59,198 -- 00:39:02,713

If I don't come back, these are yours.

Everything I own is yours.

473

00:
39:02,878 -- 00:39:06,188

I just wanna get home. Keep them.

474

00:
39:08,158 -- 00:39:11,070

Okay, all right. Good. Here.

475

00:
39:12,398 -- 00:39:15,435

The keys for the register

are over the light switch, on a hook.

476

00:
39:15,598 -- 00:39:17,793

The alarm is underneath

the light switch.

477

00:
39:17,958 -- 00:39:19,789

Make sure you see a beeping red light.

478

00:
39:19,998 -- 00:39:22,558

- Beeping red light. 158 Spring.

- Top floor.

479

00:
39:22,718 -- 00:39:24,356

I'll be right back.

480

00:
39:25,398 -- 00:39:27,707

[THUNDERING]

481

00:
39:38,358 -- 00:39:41,316

[SIRENS WAILING]

482

00:
39:57,918 -- 00:39:59,715

[BEEPING]

483

00:
40:19,158 -- 00:40:20,989

PAUL:

Oh, no.

484

00:
40:21,758 -- 00:40:23,430

Oh, God.

485

00:
40:24,278 -- 00:40:26,234

Oh, Jesus! God.

486

00:
40:27,278 -- 00:40:29,838

MAN 1:
What's come from Phil?

MAN 2:
I don't wanna read it.

487

00:
40:29,998 -- 00:40:31,989

I'm jealous.

He even sounded tan on the phone.

488

00:
40:32,158 -- 00:40:34,513

NEIGHBOR 1:
I wonder if this is

our local friendly burglar.

489

00:
40:34,678 -- 00:40:37,750

NEIGHBOR 2:
Did you get what

you wanted or did we spoil your fun?

490

00:
40:37,918 -- 00:40:41,308

- Who are you? You don't live here.

- I'm a friend of Tom's.

491

00:
40:41,478 -- 00:40:43,787

Tom who?

There are three Toms living here.

492

00:
40:43,958 -- 00:40:46,518

Look, guys, I'm not a burglar.

So get your hands off me.

493

Joseph Minion

Joseph Minion (born 1957 in Teaneck, New Jersey) is an American film director and screenwriter, best known for Martin Scorsese's After Hours (1985). Born in New Jersey in 1957, Minion briefly attended NYU Film School before finishing his studies at Columbia University, then renowned for its screenwriting program. In 1984, Minion's script for After Hours was optioned by Griffin Dunne and Amy Robinson, the latter a former actress who'd appeared as Harvey Keitel's damaged girlfriend in Scorsese's Mean Streets (1973). Robinson sent Minion's screenplay to Scorsese, whose Last Temptation of Christ had recently fallen through; production on After Hours started shortly afterward. Later, it surfaced that Minion had plagiarized portions of After Hours from radio host Joe Frank, who sued and settled for an undisclosed sum.Minion continued his screenwriting career with 1987's Julia and Julia starring Kathleen Turner; 1989's Vampire's Kiss, starring Nicolas Cage; Motorama (1991); and On the Run (1999). He also worked again with Martin Scorsese in 1986 for an episode of Amazing Stories, "Mirror, Mirror".As a director, Minion made his debut for producer Roger Corman with 1987's Daddy's Boys, said to have been thrown together at the last minute to make use of standing sets for Big Bad Mama II. His last outing as director was for another low-budget feature, Trafficking (1999). more…
