I didn't even know this girl.

598

00:
49:03,158 -- 00:49:04,910

Oh, God.

599

00:
49:05,078 -- 00:49:07,387

[SOBBING]

600

00:
49:07,558 -- 00:49:09,196

I didn't even know her.

601

00:
49:09,358 -- 00:49:10,996

Hang on.

602

00:
49:12,718 -- 00:49:14,515

[JONI MITCHELL'S

"CHELSEA MORNING" PLAYS]

603

00:
49:14,678 -- 00:49:16,157

Is that better?

604

00:
49:17,478 -- 00:49:19,389

"Chelsea Morning."

605

00:
49:21,718 -- 00:49:23,913

Go on. What is it? Talk to me.

606

00:
49:24,958 -- 00:49:29,349

I'm fine, really. I'm gonna be

out of your way in just a sec.

607

00:
49:29,758 -- 00:49:32,750

I'm just waiting for them

to open up downstairs.

608

00:
49:32,958 -- 00:49:36,075

I'll just get my keys and go home.

609

00:
49:37,038 -- 00:49:39,836

Boy, oh, boy. Oh, boy.

610

00:
49:42,518 -- 00:49:44,748

Just let it go, honey.

Tell me your problems.

611

00:
49:47,158 -- 00:49:48,557

I don't think so.

612

00:
49:48,718 -- 00:49:51,596

Paul, lighten up. What is this?

613

00:
49:51,798 -- 00:49:56,110

This doom and gloom and...

Be loosey-goosey. Come on.

614

00:
49:57,558 -- 00:50:00,948

- What are you talking about?

- Come on, tell me your problems.

615

00:
50:01,518 -- 00:50:02,837

PAUL:

Where the hell is he?

616

00:
50:03,038 -- 00:50:05,552

- What the hell time is it?

- It's very late.

617

00:
50:10,038 -- 00:50:11,437

Jesus.

618

00:
50:15,158 -- 00:50:17,672

So you really hate that job, huh?

619

00:
50:17,918 -- 00:50:20,716

Yeah. I hate both my jobs, you know?

620

00:
50:20,878 -- 00:50:23,187

PAUL:

Oh, yeah? What else do you do?

621

00:
50:23,558 -- 00:50:26,277

Well, I work in

the Xerox shop downstairs.

622

00:
50:27,478 -- 00:50:28,797

Downstairs?

623

00:
50:28,958 -- 00:50:31,392

Yeah. We're right on top of it.

624

00:
50:31,558 -- 00:50:32,991

I've got the keys. Wanna see it?

625

00:
50:33,158 -- 00:50:37,754

No, thanks. I've had about

enough excitement for one night.

626

00:
50:37,958 -- 00:50:39,550

It's a lousy job...

627

00:
50:39,998 -- 00:50:42,512

...but I can get free copies

whenever I want to.

628

00:
50:42,678 -- 00:50:44,475

Gee whiz.

629

00:
50:44,638 -- 00:50:47,152

What is that? "Gee whiz"?

630

00:
50:47,318 -- 00:50:49,115

I mean, you humoring me?

631

00:
50:50,438 -- 00:50:53,236

I don't have to take that sh*t.

What is it with people today?

632

00:
50:53,398 -- 00:50:55,832

You can't say anything

without getting a smart answer.

633

00:
50:55,998 -- 00:50:58,751

You have to be so goddamn careful

about everything you say.

634

00:
50:58,918 -- 00:51:01,148

You think I don't notice?

I know what's going on.

635

00:
51:01,318 -- 00:51:04,549

I overhear the customers

at the Xerox shop making fun of me.

636

00:
51:04,718 -- 00:51:06,151

I didn't mean anything by that.

637

00:
51:06,318 -- 00:51:10,106

I mean, it was raining outside

and I invited you to come into my home.

638

00:
51:10,278 -- 00:51:12,189

I didn't have to do that, now, did I?

639

00:
51:12,358 -- 00:51:13,871

First of all, you're not stupid.

640

00:
51:14,038 -- 00:51:17,269

Look, I have trouble figuring out

the tax on checks. So what?

641

00:
51:17,478 -- 00:51:19,469

I mean, 8 percent is a b*tch!

642

00:
51:19,678 -- 00:51:23,512

So I make a few mistakes.

Sue me! Call your lawyers!

643

00:
51:23,718 -- 00:51:26,551

PAUL:
Okay, come on. I'm sorry.

I didn't mean it.

644

00:
51:32,558 -- 00:51:35,197

- Wanna sit down? Come on.

- Okay.

645

00:
51:37,918 -- 00:51:41,547

Oh, I'm sorry I was rude before.

I really am.

646

00:
51:42,398 -- 00:51:44,468

Okay, no more crying. Please.

647

00:
51:46,398 -- 00:51:48,150

What a night.

648

00:
51:49,478 -- 00:51:51,116

Hey, Paul?

649

00:
51:53,478 -- 00:51:55,469

Do you like my hairdo?

650

00:
52:02,678 -- 00:52:05,636

Yes. Yes, I do.

651

00:
52:06,198 -- 00:52:07,916

Then why don't you touch it?

652

00:
52:11,878 -- 00:52:14,995

- I don't wanna mess it up.

- You won't.

653

00:
52:16,638 -- 00:52:19,630

- You want me to?

- Yeah.

654

00:
52:21,598 -- 00:52:23,077

Okay.

655

00:
52:29,518 -- 00:52:30,633

- I hear him.

- Ow.

656

00:
52:30,798 -- 00:52:33,266

That's him. I hear him.

I hear him. No, it's okay.

657

00:
52:33,478 -- 00:52:35,548

Thank God he's there. I can go home.

658

00:
52:35,878 -- 00:52:38,153

- Ow! Oh!

- Excuse me. What's the matter?

659

00:
52:38,318 -- 00:52:41,913

Oh. Well, nothing, I just...

660

00:
52:44,158 -- 00:52:46,718

You know, I really got the feeling...

661

00:
52:47,638 -- 00:52:49,913

...that you kind of liked me, no?

662

00:
52:51,558 -- 00:52:55,790

You're not gonna leave now, not after

I brought you in out of the rain, are you?

663

00:
52:57,478 -- 00:53:00,231

All right. All right. I'm going to...

664

00:
53:01,398 -- 00:53:03,434

Here's what I'll do. I'II...

665

00:
53:04,078 -- 00:53:08,117

I'm gonna go to the bar,

give your boss back his keys.

666

00:
53:08,278 -- 00:53:11,668

Then I'm gonna get my keys,

then I'll be back, okay?

667

00:
53:11,838 -- 00:53:14,147

- Should take all of two minutes.

- Yeah, sure.

668

00:
53:14,318 -- 00:53:18,027

Julie, two minutes. Okay?

669

00:
53:18,358 -- 00:53:20,314

[MUSIC PLAYS]

670

00:
53:24,798 -- 00:53:26,754

TOM:

Well, well, what happened to you?

671

00:
53:27,198 -- 00:53:29,029

Long, difficult story.

672

00:
53:29,198 -- 00:53:33,237

Honestly, when you didn't show up for

so long, I figured you did rob me blind.

673

00:
53:33,398 -- 00:53:37,391

I had to close up here to check it out.

A neighbor told me he did see you leave.

674

00:
53:37,558 -- 00:53:39,992

But he wasn't too sure

about you either.

675

00:
53:40,358 -- 00:53:42,394

But here you are.

676

00:
53:43,198 -- 00:53:44,790

I tell you, you had me worried.

677

00:
53:46,838 -- 00:53:49,955

How about a drink?

Sure look like you could use one.

678

00:
53:52,038 -- 00:53:55,667

You don't happen to have any powerful

aphrodisiacs back there, do you?

679

00:
53:56,438 -- 00:53:58,030

She won't put out?

680

00:
53:58,198 -- 00:54:00,393

No, it's not for her. It's for me.

681

00:
54:01,118 -- 00:54:03,916

I seem to have gotten myself

involved with...

682

00:
54:04,558 -- 00:54:06,310

...one of your cocktail waitresses.

683

00:
54:06,478 -- 00:54:09,629

- Miss Beehive, 1965.

- Yes.

684

00:
54:11,638 -- 00:54:13,549

Don't even ask me how.

685

00:
54:13,758 -- 00:54:15,953

So take off.

What's she gonna do, kill herself?

686

00:
54:16,118 -- 00:54:18,313

[PHONE RINGS]

687

00:
54:19,198 -- 00:54:20,677

Terminal.

688

00:
54:22,438 -- 00:54:23,996

What's up, Rich?

689

00:
54:38,798 -- 00:54:40,470

PAUL:

You know.

690

00:
54:41,278 -- 00:54:45,032

You know, you're right. Just give me

my keys. I'm gonna go home.

691

00:
54:57,838 -- 00:54:59,510

What's the matter?

692

00:
55:02,598 -- 00:55:04,270

My...

693

00:
55:05,678 -- 00:55:07,589

My girlfriend...

694

00:
55:09,278 -- 00:55:12,350

...just killed herself a little while ago.

Joseph Minion

Joseph Minion (born 1957 in Teaneck, New Jersey) is an American film director and screenwriter, best known for Martin Scorsese's After Hours (1985). Born in New Jersey in 1957, Minion briefly attended NYU Film School before finishing his studies at Columbia University, then renowned for its screenwriting program. In 1984, Minion's script for After Hours was optioned by Griffin Dunne and Amy Robinson, the latter a former actress who'd appeared as Harvey Keitel's damaged girlfriend in Scorsese's Mean Streets (1973). Robinson sent Minion's screenplay to Scorsese, whose Last Temptation of Christ had recently fallen through; production on After Hours started shortly afterward. Later, it surfaced that Minion had plagiarized portions of After Hours from radio host Joe Frank, who sued and settled for an undisclosed sum.Minion continued his screenwriting career with 1987's Julia and Julia starring Kathleen Turner; 1989's Vampire's Kiss, starring Nicolas Cage; Motorama (1991); and On the Run (1999). He also worked again with Martin Scorsese in 1986 for an episode of Amazing Stories, "Mirror, Mirror".As a director, Minion made his debut for producer Roger Corman with 1987's Daddy's Boys, said to have been thrown together at the last minute to make use of standing sets for Big Bad Mama II. His last outing as director was for another low-budget feature, Trafficking (1999). more…
