ANNIE(Skeptically) So, you peed on him?

BADER(Embarrassed) Yes! I mean, no!

SLIM Z(Smiling) Yes.

Bader starts to clean up the mess, and the camera zooms out on the chaotic scene.

FADE OUT:

INT. SCHOOL HALLWAY - DAY

Bader, Everleigh, and Caleb walk down the hallway and see school activity tryouts.

CALEB JOHNSTON:
“Wow, there are lots to sign up for. You could be class favorites in a bunch of things. Jazz dancing, we could do that one together.”

BADER:
“I can’t believe all these activities. They are all so much work. Staying after school, meeting before school, weekends. What kind of extraordinary activities are there?”

Tashi, the girl who bullies Bader, comes over.

TASHI:
“Get out of my way, and who let you into the school in the first place Bader Zamalano?.”

BADER:
“I was thinking the same thing about you, Tashi Anderson.”

TASHI:
“You listen to me, Bader Zamalano. I’m running for school Council president, and I am warning you. If you get in my way, I will beat you up just like in kindergarten and first grade.”

Tashi walks away,

CALEB:
“First grade? That one was ugly.”

BADER:
“What’s her problem? What did I do to her?”

A flashback scene takes place in kindergarten where young Bader said in a sing-song tone,

YOUNG BADER:
“Tashi, Tashi is a fatty, has a face just like a Ratty.”

Tashi starts crying, and Bader and his friends start laughing.

Cut back to the present where Bader said:

BADER:
“Come on, that is pretty funny. She needs to learn to get a sense of humor.”

Bader signed up for wrestling classes at school, hoping to channel his frustrations into something productive. But fate had other plans. He was matched up with Tashi, a girl who had been bullying him every day.

Coach James:
ok bulldog Zamalano meet your new opponent

Bader sees tashi

Bader:
but this is boys wrestling

Tashi:
ever heard of title 9?

Coach James:
her parents threatened to sue so you need to show her what it’s like to wrestle a real live boy

Tashi:
Come on, don’t be such a wuss, Zamalano. Make your move!

[Bader hesitates, not sure what to do.]

Bader:
[hesitant] Uh,she’s a girl where do I grab her?

[Tashi starts screaming and tackles him to the ground, causing Bader to get even more upset.]

Tashi:
Stay down!

[Bader tries to get back up, but Tashi holds him down.]

School Photographer: Tashi, over here!

[Bader realizes that they are taking his picture and gets even more upset.]

Bader:
[upset] get off of me!

[Tashi finally gets up.]

Tashi:
Can I wrestle somebody good now?

[Bader storms off as Tashi laughs, and the scene cuts to the school newspaper, where the photo is now on the front page.]

School Newspaper Editor: Look who’s in the paper!

[Bader gets upset and walks away, while Caleb gets excited.]

Caleb:
[excited] Bader, you’re famous! Right on the front page!

[The scene ends with Bader throwing down his diary in frustration.]

Bader walked away in anger, frustrated with his current situation. He felt like nobody understood him or cared about his problems. As he walked down the hallway, he overheard Caleb talking to Everleigh.

Caleb:
“Hey, did you hear about the Mother and Son Sweetheart dance? I’m going with my mom.”

Everleigh:
“That sounds like so much fun! Did you get an invitation, Bader?”

Bader scoffed. “Yeah, I got one. Like I would ever go to a stupid dance.”

At home, Bader threw the invitation in the trash, not realizing that his older brother Slim Z had seen him. Slim Z retrieved the invitation and taunted Bader with it, holding it above his head.

Slim Z:
“Look what I found in the trash! Guess who threw it away by accident?”

Bader:
“Give it back, Slim!”

Slim Z:
“No way, little bro. If you want it, come and get it.”

Slim Z began using his height advantage to hold the invitation out of Bader’s reach, teasing him by making him jump and flap his arms in circles.

Annie Baltic, witnessed the exchange and tried to calm them down. “Boys, boys. Okay, that’s enough.”

Slim Z:
“It’s for you, Bader. I knew you didn’t want to miss that dance.”

Caleb Reynolds:
[approaching them] Hey guys, what’s going on?

Slim Z:
Just trying to convince this wimp to come to the Mother and Son Sweetheart dance.

Annie:
[teasing] We figured he wouldn’t want to miss the chance to dance with me Even though I’m not his mom.

Caleb Reynolds:
[laughing] I think you should go, Bader. It’ll be a lot of fun

Bader seethed with anger. He didn’t care about the dance or the invitation; he was just tired of Slim Z always teasing him.

Bader (in a voiceover): “Fun? That’s the exact opposite of fun. This entire year has been terrible, and nobody even cares. My family, my school. Well, I am sick of it, and somebody needs to pay.”

As they walked in, Bader immediately spotted the star of the school wrestling team, David, with his mother. David was surrounded by his friends, all of whom were laughing and having a good time.

Annie nudged him, trying to get him to go talk to David, but Bader was too intimidated. He knew that David had seen the picture of him getting tackled by Tashi in the school newspaper, and he didn’t want to be humiliated again.

Bader Witnesses Caleb Johnston Dancing with his mom Having a good time and his friends we’re dancing with him having a good time

Bader:
(voiceover) You have got to be kidding me

The next day at school, Bader walked into the hallway and was immediately surrounded by his classmates.

Bader:
“Dude, I saw you dancing with your mom at the Mother and Son Sweetheart dance! That was so Epic!”

Tashi walked up to him and started to say something, but then changed her mind and walked away without a word.

Bader realized that he was no longer afraid of Tashi. Dancing with his sister had given him a sense of confidence and self-assurance that he had never felt before.

He walked down the hallway with a new bounce in his step, feeling like he could face anything that came his way.

As he walked past one of his teachers, Ms. Patterson, she stopped him and handed him a sheet of paper.

“Congratulations, Bader,” she said with a smile. “You’ve been nominated for the Student of the Month award for your leadership and perseverance in the wrestling program.”

Bader felt a surge of pride. Maybe he wasn’t such a failure after all.

He walked away, tucking the award nomination in his pocket, feeling like a new person.

INT. HOMEROOM - DAY

Bader sits attentively in his homeroom class until Bader’s attention is caught by a TV announcement from one of the teachers.

TEACHER:
(on TV) There are some positions that have been opened up for the Safety Patrol. If anyone is interested, see Mr. Winsky at homeroom.

Bader is surprised but happy at the news. He leans over and whispers to his best friends Everleigh LaBrant and Caleb Johnston.

BADER:
Did you guys hear that? Safety patrol positions are open!

Bader imagines himself and his friends Ready for Action.

BADER:
(voiceover) Now that's what I'm talking about, Safety Patrol. The cops of elementary school, you boss people around, report the jerks, and miss class three times a week.
