Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony Page #4

Synopsis: In 2010, producer Lauren Faust reworked the notoriously sexist My Little Pony franchise to attempt a quality TV series for both girls and their parents to enjoy, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. As it turns out, Faust succeeded beyond anyone's expectations with an acclaimed hit that also created an adult and teen male fandom no one saw coming, the Bronies. This film explores this following with a look at the franchise, the lives of particular fans around the world and the creative passions their seemingly unusual interest inspires. Although sometimes troubled by the prejudice of others, these kindred spirits enjoy a community experience both in spirit and at conventions that has a special magic all its own.

Dialogue:
0,0:15:35.32,0:15:39.70,Default,,0,0,0,,It's basically not being able to understand maybe people's emotions, at a time,

Dialogue:

0,0:15:44.94,0:15:47.76,Default,,0,0,0,,Are they sad? Are they happy? Are they angry?

Dialogue:
0,0:15:48.34,0:15:51.38,Default,,0,0,0,,Something like that is very difficult for someone with Asperger's, usually.

0,0:15:51.74,0:15:55.94,Default,,0,0,0,,Daniel first told me about six months ago.

Dialogue:
0,0:15:56.36,0:16:00.08,Default,,0,0,0,,I was thinking, Oh, I like this show, I want pony stuff.

Dialogue:
0,0:16:00.08,0:16:04.70,Default,,0,0,0,,How am I going to go about getting them without telling them anything about it.

Dialogue:
0,0:16:04.70,0:16:09.66,Default,,0,0,0,,So I sort of just sat my mom down and said, Okay, I'm gonna tell you something a bit weird.

0,0:16:09.66,0:16:11.94,Default,,0,0,0,,And I thought, Oh my God, what is it?

Dialogue:
0,0:16:12.62,0:16:16.12,Default,,0,0,0,,Um, and he says, I really like this program, I want you to watch it,

Dialogue:
0,0:16:16.12,0:16:17.70,Default,,0,0,0,,don't say anything, just watch it.

Dialogue:
0,0:16:18.72,0:16:20.34,Default,,0,0,0,,[television] No distractions.

Dialogue:
0,0:16:21.98,0:16:24.86,Default,,0,0,0,,I was thinking, Oh my God, why does he like this?

Dialogue:
0,0:16:25.52,0:16:30.18,Default,,0,0,0,,And after it had finished, I thought, Well [sigh] Yeah, I can see why he likes it.

Dialogue:
0,0:16:30.48,0:16:32.40,Default,,0,0,0,,And I thought, He's gonna get obsessed with this

Dialogue:
0,0:16:32.40,0:16:35.64,Default,,0,0,0,,Soon as I saw it, I knew that he was- he would be obsessed with it.

Dialogue:
0,0:16:35.90,0:16:39.04,Default,,0,0,0,,The ponies I would most relate to would probably be Twilight,

Dialogue:
0,0:16:39.06,0:16:42.28,Default,,0,0,0,,because she gets very freaked out when elements don't go her way.

Dialogue:
0,0:16:42.28,0:16:45.62,Default,,0,0,0,,I mean, I can see a lot of him in some of the characters.

Dialogue:
0,0:16:45.92,0:16:49.68,Default,,0,0,0,,And so I, I thought, I bet he can see himself in a lot of the characters.

Dialogue:
0,0:16:49.94,0:16:53.98,Default,,0,0,0,,If something she's trying to achieve goes out of her control, or that she fails at,

Dialogue:
0,0:16:53.72,0:16:57.72,Default,,0,0,0,,she gets very anxious, or agitated, or very stressed out.

Dialogue:
0,0:16:58.30,0:17:01.28,Default,,0,0,0,,Or she has a mental, psychological breakdown, goes crazy.

Dialogue:
0,0:17:01.44,0:17:04.60,Default,,0,0,0,,It looks like some pony's getting themselves all worked up over nothing.

Dialogue:
0,0:17:05.02,0:17:07.90,Default,,0,0,0,,[kick] This is not nothing. This is everything!
