DETECTIVE RODGERS

So you say. I check the crime

scene yesterday and one of the

detective trainees gave me 3

people to investigate hopefully at

least one of these 3 can help.

FRANK:

Ok good. Meet me at the department

around 4 or so. Before you hang up

send me the pic of those suspects

DETECTIVE RODGERS

Ok sure thing, see you later

Frank. It’s really nice to have

you back.

Frank hangs up the phone walks to his counter and prays silently.

EXT. DETECTIVE RODGERS APARTMENT - DAY

Detective Rodgers walks around his apartment, a somewhat organized

place not to dirty not clean. He opens his fridge to grab a MILLER

LITE.

Rodgers sit down in one of his chairs at his dinner table and looks at

pictures of the suspects.

INT. DEADTIDE POLICE DEPARTMENT-EVENING

Frank pulls up in the parking lot in an older model f150 truck.

The police station is flooded with people who are standing outside.

Franks gets out of his truck and waves. Behind him, Detective Rodgers

approaches and guides Frank through the yelling crowd of yelling.

Once in the building, they move straight for lieutenant Smith

LIEUTENANT SMITH

Sit down gentlemen. As you know

there’s a particular serial killer

on the loose, and the only thing

we have is 3 witnesses. Is that

right, Detective?

12.

DETECTIVE RODGERS

Yes sir and I’m gonna start on

that after this meeting with you.

FRANK:

I know you all are excited that I

am here to do one last job, but I

have you know if this is the same

case I worked, all them years

back, then this town is going to

hell. No matter my experience.

LIEUTENANT SMITH

Well, let’s not think like that.

This department got a lot of young

ambitious guys to give you and

detective Rodgers help, if y’all

want it.

FRANK:

Thanks, but if it’s a copycat, I

believe that these murders will

get worst. Most copycats thrives

on making sure that there work of

art is better than the original.

So it would be hard to catch him

right away. The only way we could

even get close is if he wants us

to. Other than that, we will stay

at this dead end.

LIEUTENANT SMITH

Hand Frank a badge and a handgun.

Frank, what your first clue was to

catching HU?

FRANK:

Well it started out like this one

actually, a couple of witnesses

but other than that a cold case.

Weeks went by no murders no

nothing. For a while it seemed

like one gruesome accident, ya

know.

(takes a sip of his coffee)

One day I get a phone call from

HU.

13.

LIEUTENANT SMITH

Wait, Hugo Sanchez called you?

FRANK:

Yea, that’s right. I don’t know

how he got my number, but he

called me, he knew my name what

witnesses we had at the time. He

basically knew the whole

investigation like he had people

working from the inside. And

that’s why I’m telling you it’s

only going to get worse.

LIEUTENANT SMITH

It’s too late to go back on your

word now Frank. You will be a part

of this family until you catch

this son of a b*tch, got it?

FRANK:

Yea I got it. I’ll look tonight

and go around asking questions

about that stripper that got

killed. Rodgers can take the night

off.

DETECTIVE RODGERS

You sure?

FRANK:

Yea I’m pretty sure. I know the

person or a place he would strike

next.

EXT. DEADTIDE CEMETERY - NIGHT

Frank gets out of his truck and walks the trail of Deadtide cemetery.

Frank talks out loud.

FRANK:

Why the hell would you come back

Hu? Me and you both know we took

something from each other that we

can’t get back.

Frank walks up to Hu’s grave site, the tombstone has just his name.

Frank pulls out his gun and empties his clip on HU tombstone.

INT.TITS AND BEERS PARKING LOT ALLEY- MOMENTS LATER

FRANK walks the strip club alley where he checks the trash can the

stripper was found in. He opens the trash can, he turns towards a sound

in the back of the alleyway.

14.

FRANK:

Whose there?

The alley is silent.

FRANK:

Deadtide Pd if someone there

please show yourself or I will

shoot

He pulls out his gun.

Frank steps slowly, but closer to the end of the corner of the alley

and suddenly is pushed down by a local junkie. Frank drops his gun and

the junkie grabs it and points the gun Franks’ head.

JUNKIE:

Damn Frank, I didn’t know that was

you.

He drops the gun.

FRANK:

You didn’t hear me when I said I

was gonna shoot if you didn’t show

yourself.

JUNKIE:

Nah Frank I just heard a noise, so

I just hid, hoping I can jack

someone for a quick fix. Ya know

it’s easier nowadays to mug

someone.

FRANK:

Yea I bet

Frank gets up from the ground.

JUNKIE:

So your back on the unit?

-FRANK

Yeah, I guess you can say that

JUNKIE:

I’m guessing you’re looking for

them people that killed that man

and that stripper huh?

15.

FRANK:

Yeah, the squad thinks-

JUNKIE:

It can’t be

The junkie starts to step backwards, away from Frank.

A beat.

FRANK:

I know, I know. It could just be a

copycat.

JUNKIE:

C’mon Frank. Me and you both know

who it is, so don’t come up with

excuses for that monster.

FRANK:

I’m not. All I’m saying, is that

after all these years, why would

he just come back? Now me and you

both now he’s smarter than that.

FRANK:

How long you’ve been like this?

JUNKIE:

Ever since that night...

FRANK:

I’m sorry

JUNKIE:

No don’t be. I knew what I was

getting myself into when I helped

you with that case. Don’t worry.

FRANK:

(rubbing his head)

Since that case is back open would

you think about being my CI again?

JUNKIE:

I mean you did change my life back

then... I’ve been trying to get

clean for a while now but every

time I try to make that step

(Pause) something just keep

pulling me like the dope is

telling me that I don’t need to

eat or sleep... like I have to get

high before I do those things.
