phone is f***ed... Ah Jaysus Billy,

thanks.

Billy takes over the task. He works feverishly, with total

concentration. He wipes sweat from his brow with his now

dirty hands.

The NEW TYRE is now on and Billy looks up to see a tear

running down Imelda's cheek. He moves around to the side of

the car.

BILLY:

Are ye all right?

IMELDA:

Don't mind me. It's just I seem to

be fightin' with everyone today.

Naomi's thick cause her ex tried to

chat me up and me parents are

drivin' me.... bananas... Me phone

dies, me car dies... I feel like

jumpin' in the Jaysus canal.

BILLY:

Well, I'd be the man to pull ye out

so.

IMELDA:

What?... Oh yeah.

Billy sees a smile appear on Imelda's face. He leans in,

placing his hand on the CAR DOOR.

BILLY:

Look it... Don't mind any of

them... You're a... You have so

much goin' for ye... rise above

it... And ye have your party

tonight.

Imelda puts her hand on Billy's arm and pats it. She looks up

into his face.

IMELDA:

Thanks Bill... You're a real good

man.

Billy is embarrassed but absolutely FOCUSSED on Imelda as she

wipes her eyes with a HANKY.

IMELDA (CONT'D)

You're comin' tonight, aren't ye?

BILLY:

Oh yeah.

Imelda smiles again. To Billy the smile lasts so much longer

than the few seconds it actually does.

Imelda REVS UP HER ENGINE and drives away.

Billy looks up into the sky as if to give thanks to God.

105 INT. VAN/SCHOOL - DAY 105

Billy pulls up fast and brakes hard.

He sees James standing on his own, still in his football

gear, cutting a lonely and very disconsolate figure.

Billy jumps from the VAN.

BILLY:

Sorry son, got called away... A

work thing... And Jaysus I saw most

of it, ye were brilliant.

JAMES:

Ye promised to take me straight

home.

BILLY:

(annoyed at himself)

Ah listen, couldn't be helped. Jump

in, come on.

James gets into the VAN but looks inconsolable.

106 INT. FARRELL HOUSE/KITCHEN - DAY 106

Breda sits at the table as she writes something carefully on

a CARD. She pauses for a second and then resumes and seems

happy with what she's put down. She puts the card in an

ENVELOPE and hides it in one of the presses.

106A I NT. BEDROOM - DAY 106A

Breda carefully unfolds the PURPLE DRESS and holds it out in

front of her. She lays it out on the bed and undresses to her

NEW SEXY LINGERIE. She slowly and painstakingly puts the

purple dress on.

The moment of truth has arrived as she slowly does up the ZIP

at the back.

The dress fits her perfectly.

She is thrilled and stands LOOKING AT herself in the MIRROR

of the wardrobe.

She RETURNS HER GAZE to the mirror and wraps her arms around

herself feeling the material of the dress.

She closes her eyes.

She HEARS the van PULLING UP OUTSIDE and then the FRONT DOOR

O PENING.

Breda opens her eyes, LOOKS AROUND and SEES Billy in the door

way looking at her.

Breda slowly turns fully around to show herself and the dress

off.

It takes a second for Billy to fully TAKE IN how well Breda

looks.

BILLY:

Ye look... Rale... Jeeez Breda...

Breda smiles and notices the stains on Billy's hands and

shirt.

BREDA:

What happened to ye?

She steps into him and touches a stain on his shirt sleeve.

Billy visibly becomes very still.

BILLY:

Ah, the ol' van was actin' up.

Breda gently takes hold of Billy's hand.

BREDA:

So ye like the dress?

Billy looks at her and nods.

Breda slowly lays her head on Billy's shoulder. Her hand goes

around his waist.

Billy responds and puts his arms around her. But he remains

extremely tense. Breda starts to slowly sway and they begin

to move as if in a slow dance. Billy closes his eyes and

seems to give into it. He relaxes into Breda. She holds him

tighter.

After a moment, Billy opens his eyes and awkwardly pulls away

from her. He raises his stained hands.

BILLY:

I better... Me hands, don't want to

get the dress dirty.

He heads into the en suite bathroom.

Breda stands, flushed and extremely pleased.

106B INT. FARRELL HOUSE/SITTING ROOM - EVENING 106B

Breda, with the purple dress on and now tastefully made up,

places dishes of ice cream in front of her children who sit

on the sofa watching television.

James looks as if he has been crying.

Breda looks to him.

BREDA:

What's wrong, son?

James says nothing.

Breda then glances up to see Billy standing in front of them

with his NEW SHIRT and JACKET on.

Breda takes him in for a moment.

BREDA (CONT'D)

That's lovely.

Billy gives a little embarrassed smile as Breda steps into

him and takes a hold of his arm to feel the material.

BILLY:

For the night that's in it.

Billy takes his arm back and steps towards the door.

BILLY (CONT'D)

Be good for Amanda now.

JAMES:

I don't want ye to go out tonight.

I hate Amanda.

EDEL:

Stay quiet will ye!

BILLY:

(to James)

Look it, I said I was sorry.

James shoots his father a look of disdain.

BREDA:

Anyway we won't go on about it...

Ah come on son, ye's will be

allowed to stay up real late.

James makes a face but can't help digging into his ice cream.

BILLY:

Right so.

H e goes to Edel and kisses her on the head.

EDEL:

The two of ye's look great and I

hope you and Mammy have a brilliant

copper anniversary.

BILLY:

Wha? Right.

He ruffles James's hair.

BILLY (CONT'D)

Be good son.

James completely ignores him.

Billy turns to go.

Edel whips out her CAMERA PHONE.

EDEL:

I want a photo of the two of ye's.

Billy looks to Breda and they both LAUGH in embarrassment.

EDEL (CONT'D)

Come on!

Billy and Breda stand in together. Edel motions with her

hand.

EDEL (CONT'D)

Closer together... Arms around each

other... Big smiles.

They do as they're told and Edel TAKES the shot.

BREDA:

Jaysus, she's bossier than the

fecker who did our wedding snaps.

Billy shakes his head and grins broadly in recognition.

Breda beams back at him.
