Billy takes a moment to mull this over.

BREFFNI (CONT'D)
We'll be gettin' take outs. It'll
be 'great craic'.
Billy nods his head and moves to the door.
65 DELETED (NOW PART OF SCENE 64). 65
Billy drives, with Eoghan and Breffni squeezed in beside him.
They pass Ernie on the main street as he reaches a SHOP with
a LARGE SIGN that reads 'Ernie's World of Furniture'.
BREFFNI:
Poor ol' houre.
The van drives past as Ernie shakes hands with a CUSTOMER and
beckons them into the shop.
Breda and Eilish sit on their JACKETS, drinking from one of
the BOTTLES which is nearly empty and GIGGLING like young
ones. The CAR is parked behind them.
EILISH:
Jeez Breda... the 'Golden Flute'...
Tony... Well if ye really want to
know the golden flute was a fair
sight when it got goin' but it took
a fierce amount of work to get it
there and a lotta encouragement to
keep it there!
Breda ROARS with LAUGHTER.
A BOG TRAIN goes by in front of them.
They watch it until it reaches a POWER STATION a little bit
further on.
EILISH (CONT'D)
Remember the fella who I used go
with who worked over there... What
was his name?
BREDA:
Kenny.

EILISH:
Kenny... I used't come out here and
meet him after work every Friday
and...
Eilish stands up and points to a SHED in front of the power
station.
EILISH (CONT'D)
Do ye see the shed there... Did I
never tell ye this?
Breda shakes her head.
EILISH (CONT'D)
Well we used't sneak in there and
smoke joints and ye know...
Eilish picks up her JACKET.
EILISH (CONT'D)
Come on!
BREDA:
Where are we goin'?
Breda and Eilish reach the door of the shed.
EILISH:
This is it, me and Kenny's love
nest.
Eilish does a quick check around, produces Yvonne's STONE
WEIGHT AWARD and SMASHES a PANE OF GLASS in the shed's
window.
BREDA:
Jaysus, Eilish!
Eilish puts her arm through the broken pane and manages to
release the CATCH on the door.
EILISH:
Come on... Quick.
E ilish pushes open the door and goes inside.
Breda follows her in.

There is VARIOUS BITS from OLD BOG MACHINERY around as well
as TWO PLASTIC CHAIRS and a BURCO WATER BOILER.
EILISH:
Not the height of luxury but sure
me and Kenny would be that stoned.
Eilish replaces the CATCH and closes the door.
Eilish hands her the BOTTLE.
EILISH (CONT'D)
Get workin' on that.
Breda sits tentatively and takes a large slug of wine.
70 EXT. CROGHAN HILL - EVENING 70
Billy, Breffni and Eoghan make their way up the steep hill.
They pass by a SMALL GRAVEYARD. Each man glances over at the
OLD GRAVE STONES but nobody says anything.
The THREE MEN stand on the hill top, around an UPRIGHT STONE.
BREFFNI:
Saint Bridget was veiled up here,
boys. You are now walking on sacred
ground.
Billy hands Billy and Eoghan a CAN each. They CRACK them
open.
EOGHAN:
Fair play to ye Bridgie.
BREFFNI:
(mock serious)
Bit of respect you, some of us
still have faith in...
EOGHAN:
Oh right, I'm sorry if IBREFFNI
- No, it's all a load of bollocks.
Eoghan LAUGHS, relieved that Breffni wasn't serious.
Billy frowns as he see's Breffni taking out a JOINT and
lighting it.

Billy SURVEYS the surrounding landscape.
BREFFNI (O.S.) (CONT'D)
I've dabbled in them all, even
joined the Krishnas, although that
was only 'cause I wanted to ride
this young one...
Billy turns back to see Breffni taking a large hit of the
j oint and passing it to Eoghan.
BREFFNI (CONT'D)
No... life is for livin', what will
be will be.
(to Billy)
That right, Bill?
Billy nods, takes a large gulp of his CAN and turns back to
the view.
BREFFNI (CONT'D)
Sure this man doesn't need
religion. He has kids and a wife.
You might a seen f*** all of the
world, Bill, but in the long run
you have a woman that ye love...
That right?
Billy remains still and drinks his CAN.
BREFFNI (CONT'D)
And a course I was the one who
egged him on... Youth club disco in
sixth year... 'Go for it boy' and
he did.... Walked Breda up to the
schoolyard, into the shed and then
bingo!
Billy smiles but feels embarrassed.
BREFFNI (CONT'D)
Ye see Eoghan, look at us... A pair
a lonely ol' houres with no one to
go home to. But you, Bill ... when
those two kids look up at ye, the
feelin' ye must get.
Billy looks very uncomfortable and takes a last swig to
finish his CAN. He then makes a very definite move to leave.
BILLY:
I'll be in Grady's when you're ...
finished.
Billy walks on.

BREFFNI:
See ye down there.
Billy continues on down the hill.
Breda is slouched over in the chair GIGGLING with Eilish, and
takes a slug from the BOTTLE OF WINE.
EILISH:
Go on Breda, tell me... What
happens?
Breda shakes her head and goes silent.
EILISH (CONT'D)
Go on, tell us.
BREDA:
No, I can't. I'd feel stupid.
EILISH:
We've all... ye know. Go on.
BREDA:
Well I'm... I'm standin' on the
canal bank with about twenty other
women and this boat pulls in and
these two fellas get off and shine
a torch down along us. And I always
think that they're not going to
pick me but then I feel the light
of the torch back on me and they
signal me to get on the boat. I
have been chosen and...
Breda has now shed her embarrassment.
BREDA (CONT'D)
...I step onto the boat and I'm led
into this cabin which is like a big
bedroom with a four poster bed and
there's this gorgeous fella there.
I'm wearin' this purple dress and I
take it off rale slow and he pulls
back the sheets and I get in and we
slowly start to... Doin' everything
that ye can ever imagine and it's
f***in'... Amazin'....
