73 EXT. CROGHAN HILL - EVENING 73

Billy pauses near the bottom of the hill to LOOK out on the

field in front of him.

A LONE TREE stands at the back of the field in the fading

evening sun.

Billy feels a growing sense of frustration and looks close to

tears.

74 INT. SHED - EVENING 74

Breda necks more of the wine.

BREDA:

Next Saturday we're ten years and

he hasn't even mentioned it.

EILISH:

Well leave the f***er then!

BREDA:

No. That's not... I believe in the

two of us. We made a promise. It's

important. We made a promise and

we'll keep it cos'... We just have

to... Okay.

Eilish nods and feels she must accept Breda's vow.

75 EXT. CROGHAN HILL - EVENING 75

Billy comes out of his thoughts and continues on down the

hill.

76 INT. GRADY'S BAR - EVENING 76

Billy sits at a table surveying the bar.

A YOUNG PRETTY-LOOKING GIRL passes by, making her way towards

the ladies toilets.

Every male eye in the place SHOOTS towards the Girl, watching

her.

A PUDGY MIDDLE-AGED WOMAN comes out of the ladies toilets

just as the Girl disappears inside.

T he MEN don't give this Woman a second glance.

Billy takes all of this in, drinking a PINT and a SHORT.

As the Woman passes him Billy smiles at her politely. The

Woman smiles back and walks on to her seat.

Billy still looks distressed, as if something is eating away

at him.

77 INT. SHED - NIGHT 77

Breda turns the BOTTLE upside down to let the last drop of

wine into her mouth. Eilish LAUGHS at the concentration on

Breda's face.

Suddenly, they SEE car headlights flashing up through the

window and HEAR a CAR ENGINE pulling up outside. The lights

vanish and they HEAR the SLAM of a car door.

Breda can't help GIGGLING. Eilish SHUSHES her.

Breda suddenly SEES a torch shining at them through the

window.

They both freeze at the SOUND of the DOOR UNLOCKING.

Breda STARES ahead as the door opens and the FIGURE OF A MAN

fills the frame.

He shines the torch in their faces so they can't see him

properly.

He then lowers the torch from their eyes and LOOKS at them.

Breda can now MAKE OUT the MAN, in some kind of UNIFORM.

He TAKES THEM IN slowly.

Breda eyes are FIXED on the Man.

She gets out of the slowly and goes towards him.

Breda is now face to face with the Man and for a moment it

looks like she could lean in and kiss him.

BREDA:

My name's Breda.

The Man takes a step back.

MAN:

Listen to me, ye're trespassing.

The Man takes another step back.

Eilish makes a burst for the door way.

She grabs Breda's arm and they both tear out past the night

watch man who willingly lets the crazy women go.

78 EXT. BOG ROAD - NIGHT. 78

Breda and Eilish arrive back onto the road, out of breath and

PANTING.

EILISH:

What the f*** were ye doin'...

BREDA:

Dunno, I swear I just seemed to ...

For a moment I thought... Oh

Jaysus, Eilish...

EILISH:

What?

BREDA:

Last Sunday... he put his arm

around me and I really thought we

were goin' to... But he was soft

and... It's been so long since

we...

79 INT. GRADY'S BAR - TOILET - NIGHT 79

Billy leans on the WASH BASIN with his head down.

He closes his eyes as if not able to face himself any longer.

80 EXT. BOG ROAD - NIGHT 80

Eilish puts her arm around Breda.

EILISH:

Look it... Forget about.... Just

make f***in' sure he knows about

Saturday, ye's are goin' out,

that's it... right... Simple...

Breda can't help LAUGHING.

BREDA:

Yeah... Simple... yeah.

The two friends huddle together against the breeze and

continue on towards the CAR.

81 INT. GRADY'S BAR - NIGHT 81

Billy walks slowly from the toilet and HEARS LOUD VOICES

coming from the bar. He pauses and WATCHES what's going on.

Breffni and Eoghan are sitting with the Pretty Girl that

Billy had seen earlier going into the toilet, and her FRIEND.

But there is also a large young man, DESSIE (25), standing

over Breffni and waving his fist at him.

DESSIE:

(shouting)

Think ye can chat up my mot, do ye,

ye f***in' bollocks, I'll bury

ye!!!

Breffni starts to LAUGH. Suddenly, Dessie grabs Breffni up

and holds him by his collar.

All eyes and ears in the bar ZONE IN on the incident.

Billy realises that the situation is close to boiling point.

He makes a move but hesitates. He then goes for it, and walks

quickly over to the scene.

BILLY:

There's no harm done. Look it she's

a grand lookin' girl. Ye can't help

fellas wantin' to talk to her....

It's a compliment to you like.

Dessie takes this in and considers his next move.

The BARMAN has joined the scene.

BARMAN:

Calm it down Dessie and I'll ask

them to leave.

Dessie relents and lets go of Breffni.

DESSIE:

You're one lucky fella.

Breffni retains a sneery veneer but makes sure to back off,

following Billy and Eoghan to the door. But just as he is

about to step outside Breffni turns back.

BREFFNI:

Listen, no hard feelings Dessie, I

mean I'm all in favour of people

ridin' their own cousins!

Breffni disappears out the door.

Dessie's face looks like it might explode.

DESSIE:

You f***in' little bollocks!!!

82 EXT. GRADY'S BAR - NIGHT 82

Billy and Eoghan scramble towards the VAN.

Dessie BURSTS out the door after Breffni.

DESSIE:

I'm gonna f***in' kill ye!!!!

Dessie LAUNCHES himself at Breffni and rugby tackles him to

the ground.

DESSIE (CONT'D)

AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

Billy with impressive speed opens up the VAN and KICK-STARTS

the ENGINE.

Eoghan dives into the passenger seat.

83 INT. VAN - NIGHT 83

Eoghan turns to Billy as the engine REVS up to FULL THROTTLE.

EOGHAN:

What the f*** are we gonna do?!!!

Billy glances into the REARVIEW MIRROR and sees Breffni

getting a SMACK in the face.

BILLY:

F*** it!

84 EXT. GRADY'S BAR - NIGHT 84

The VAN hurtles backwards towards Breffni and Dessie.

Dessie is forced to spring off Breffni to avoid the oncoming
