WHIPE TO:

INT. THRONE ROOM – CORALIA

DALE runs over to KALA.

DALE:

You ARE a filthy coward! What are you doing to Flash?

KALA snarls, grabs DALE by the arm, and spins her around to the glass port hole.

KALA:

Look!

INT. WATER ROOM – CORALIA

FLASH is now treading water. The water rapidly rises. He sees the ceiling is getting closer.

INT. ANTE-ROOM – CORALIA

DALE bangs on the glass port hole.

DALE:

Flash! Flash!

KALA turns and pulls on a lever.

INT. WATER ROOM – CORALIA

FLASH cannot hear DALE. A circular grate in the floor slides opens and a ganglia of black tentacles writhe out.

FLASH is treading water unaware of the approaching octosak.

ANGLE – we see in the murky water FLASH’S kicking legs. A thick tentacle reaches up and grabs it.

-DALE screams.

FLASH is yanked underwater down to the hole. We see a great maw of jagged teeth from an open mouth. FLASH struggles to free himself as more tentacles wrap his twisting body.

INT. ANTE-ROOM – CORALIA

KALA grins, raising his hand, he snaps his fingers.

KALA:

Nori! See that she misses none of the entertainment while I prepare an escort for our prisoner back to Mingo City.

A SHARKWOMAN approaches and stands behind DALE. She holds the earthgirl tightly by the shoulders, forcing DALE to stand at the porthole.

INT. WATER ROOM – CORALIA

FLASH kicks and struggles as more tentacles surround him. His chest heaves as his oxygen is squeezed out by the constricting tentacles.

INT. ANTE-ROOM – CORALIA

DALE pounds on the thick glass of the window. Tears stream down her cheeks.

DALE:

No! Flash! No!

DALE slumps and faints in NORI’S grasp.

NORI:

(to KALA)

Your majesty?

KALA:

Such weak people. The conquest of their world will be a simple task for the emperor.

AURA:

(offscreen)

Halt, Kala! I command you!

AURA stands at an entrance under the stairs leading to the throne. She is holding a ray gun. THUN stands behind her, sword drawn. AURA approaches KALA. She glances at DALE and sneers. KALA bows at the hip.

KALA:

Your majesty.

AURA:

What have you done with the earthman, Flash Gordon? Answer me, sharkman!

KALA:

Your father has ordered that you be returned to him as prisoners.

Once they reach KALA, THUN glances through the glass window.

THUN:

Flash? An octosak!

INT. WATER ROOM – CORALIA

FLASH is nearly at the entrance to the hole in the floor. The tentacles slowly pull him downward. It is obvious he is losing strength.

INT. ANTE-ROOM – CORALIA

AURA points her ray gun at KALA’S face.

AURA:

Cease that fight! At once!

KALA:

(sneers)

How does one stop an octosak?

THUN emits a tremendous roar in frustration and pushes KALA to the ground out of his way to the control board. The lionman begins to throw levers.

INT. WATER ROOM – CORALIA

The STEEL GRATE DOORS to the floor trap quickly snaps shut, slicing the tentacles. The water becomes saturated in the crimson blood of the sea beast.

The amputated tentacles slide off as FLASH swims to the surface. His face breaks the foot wide space left between the water and the ceiling, gagging and coughing.

INT. ANTE-ROOM – CORALIA

AURA watches through the port and turns to KALA.

AURA:

Drain the water from that tank!

Sneering, KALA pulls one of the levers.

AURA:

Take me to that room! Do as I command, sharkman!

KALA:

You realize, with the snap of a finger, my sharkmen could swarm in this throne room and subdue you.

AURA:

You dare threaten a descendant of pure breed, mutant? I will have your city sacked and burned for such insolence!

KALA:

Pl-please, your highness...

AURA snatches a chrome microphone on the wall. She switches it on.

AURA:

(her voice reverbs)

Attention, citizens of Coralia. This is your Princess Aura, daughter of Emperor Ming the Merciless. I am in diplomatic talks with your King. No one, under pain of death, shall enter the throne room during my visit. (She switches off the microphone. Returns her attention to KALA. She points into the porthole) Take me there, now!

KALA:

Nori, escort her majesty to the entrance to the water room.

NORI:

Yes, your highness.

NORI lays DALE across a chaise near the wall. AURA hands the ray gun to THUN.

AURA:

Guard him closely, lionman.

The SHARKWOMAN leads AURA out of the ante-room.

INT. WATER ROOM – CORALIA

We see the water gushing out through vented pipes.

INT. ANTE-ROOM – CORALIA

THUN stands and points the gun at KALA. The SHARKMAN sneers at THUN.

KALA:

You realize abetting these savages have brought certain destruction upon your people, Prince Thun.

THUN:

Better to die a free man than live in servitude under the cruel fist of a tyrant.

INT. HALLWAY – CORALIA

NORI escorts AURA down a hallway of coral pillars and silk draperies. AURA grabs the sharkwoman by the wrist and spins her around.

AURA:

This is not the way to the tank room!

NORI:

How do you know?

AURA:

I am Princess Aura, daughter of your emperor! I command you to take me there now, sharkwoman!

NORI:

No. My king has other plans for the earthman.

AURA growls, spins, and slices the SHARKWOMAN in the throat. Blood splatters across the pearl-colored tile. AURA looks down at the corpse.

AURA:

No one denies my wishes, mutant!

She continues down the hall.

INT. ANTE-ROOM – CORALIA

DALE snaps out of it. She looks up and sees the imposing lionman holding a chrome ray gun at the king of the sharkmen.

DALE:

(to THUN)

Who are you? Where’s Flash?

THUN:

I am Prince Thun, an ally of your friend Flash Gordon. Do not worry, he is safe.

DALE:

(scowls at KALA)

This bloated a**hole threw him in a water tank with some kind of squid thing!

THUN nods to the window port.

THUN:

As I said, he is safe.

DALE turns and looks down through the porthole.

ANGLE ON:
FLASH is on his knees. The water has receded. Tentacles and gore lay about. His back is to DALE and he is facing the hatch door.

DALE pounds on the thick glass.

DALE:

Flash! Flash!

INT. WATER ROOM – CORALIA

FLASH gasps, pulling air back into his lungs. We see DALE up in the circular window beating on it. He cannot hear her.

SUDDENLY! The hatch clanks open, and AURA steps in. She runs up and embraces FLASH. When she reaches FLASH, she quickly glances up to the porthole, then holds FLASH’S face in her palm so that he’ll look only at her.

AURA:

Flash Gordon!

FLASH:

Aura? What happened? Was it you who drained the tank?

AURA:

Yes.

FLASH:

Thank you. Where’s Dale?

During her line, AURA helps FLASH to his feet and, with an arm around his waist, leads him out through the hatch.

AURA:

Prince Thun has taken her in a hydro-cycle to a place of safety on the surface. We are to meet them there. Come, we must go.

As they leave, the camera pans up to DALE beating on the window.
