SCENE 12

Alisha invited terry over for dinner at her parents. Whiles Alisha and the mother were almost done with the setting up of the table; there was a knock on their door.

Alisha:
(Open the door) Hey babe and hugging Terry, You are welcome to my house.

Terry:
Thank you (Smile)

Alisha:
Come inside

Alisha’s mum:
Hey love birds come and have a seat, dinner is served and please excuse me let me get my darling (referring to Alisha’s dad)

SCENE 13

She went inside to get her husband

Alisha’s mum:
Honey, Your son in law is here to have dinner with us

Alisha’s dad:
you mean Terry? Wow I have never seen or had a word with him before

Alisha’s Mum:
So that is the reason why you should come to the dining table.

They both joined Alisha and Terry who were already seated for dinner.

Terry:
(Stand up and to greet Alisha’s dad in a respectful manner) Good evening sir

Alisha’s dad:
Good evening Terry, how are you doing? And how is work too?

Terry:
Everything is fine sir

Alisha’s dad:
Let’s sit and please can someone share the grace before we start eating because I am starving already.

Alisha:
Mum please pray for us

Alisha’s mum:
(Prayer before meals –)

Everyone ate and afterwards as Alisha was clearing the table her parents were now having a conversation with Terry.

Alisha’s dad:
So Terry we are done eating can you please let us know you more?

Terry:
Okay, My full name is Terry Bayor …… (Self introduction)

Alisha’s Dad:
I see that’s great, I hope you love and enjoy what you do?

Terry:
Obviously sir

Alisha’s dad:
And how is our daughter treating you? Seeing your appearance alone tells me you are treating her well because you are the definition for a perfect gentleman.

Terry:
Thank you sir for the compliment but for the relationship between Alisha and I it can only grow and nothing else because we were made for each other and this. (Smile)

Alisha coming from the kitchen

Alisha:
Dad that’s okay I would like to have some alone time with Terry, Please come lets go to my room.

SCENE 14

Alisha took Terry by the hand and they walked into her room

Terry:
I think your parents are the coolest people I have ever met

Alisha:
You have no idea, especially my mum she is always curious

Terry:
About what?

Alisha:
Wanting to know what’s going on in people’s lives

Terry:
aaarrhh but wait, what’s wrong with that?

Alisha:
Everything is wrong with that, because of her curiosity and pressure, I nearly got married to someone I never loved but God saved me.

Terry:
come here(pulling Alisha closer to yourself) I’m so sorry about but you know she is your mum and she will always want the best for you, so take it easy on her.

SCENE 15

3 months later

At Terry’s residence

Narrator:
Terry and Alisha were having a conversation on the bed

Terry:
Alisha, will you (incomplete)

Alisha:
Yes (thinking it was a proposal)

Terry:
I want you to meet my mum

Alisha:
Oh okay you mean your mum (Looking numb)

Terry:
Why? What were you thinking?

Alisha:
Oh is fine, I will be happy to meet her and how about your dad?

Terry:
My dad left us at age 12

Alisha:
Sorry about that (putting your head on his chest)

Terry:
I will be asking for a week break at the work place so that we can go and spend some little time with mum

Alisha:
I will do same; let’s hope my boss signs my casual leave letter.

Terry:
Would you like me to speak to him?

Alisha:
No don’t, he will suspect there is something going on between us

Terry:
And what’s wrong with that?

Alisha:
Nothing but..

Terry:
Is fine. I understand.

SCENE 16

DAY 1 @ THE VILLAGE

Narrator:
Terry and Alisha were in a car going to the village. They got to the village after a long drive. Terry’s mother came out upon hearing them speak.

Terry’s mum:
Hey Son you’re welcome home (Hugging him)

Terry:
Thanks mother

Terry’s mum:
Son you look good

Terry:
Say thank you to Alisha my fiancée, she has been treating me so well

Terry’s mum:
I see, young woman how are you?

Alisha:
I am fine mama (Getting closer to terry’s mum, try to hug her)

Terry’s mum:
(dodge the hug) Anna

Anna:
Yes mama, Terry when did you come? You are welcome (hug Terry)

Terry:
Thank you Anna, how have you been?

Anna:
Great as you can see (turn around) and how about you?

Terry:
Doing well by his grace and with the care of my love here (pulling Alisha closer to yourself)

Terry’s Mum:
Anna is the lady Terry should have married if he was to be a man enough

Alisha:
(share a fake smile) okay

Terry’s mum:
And I’m hoping one day he will be a man. Son and Anna (Hold their hands side by side) let’s go inside, your wife to be needs to prepare us something to eat

Terry:
but mum we had a long journey at least let her rest for today

Terry’s mum:
My daughter is a very strong woman and she can handle that or you can’t do it so that Anna will just help us out

Alisha:
Mama let me do it (smiling)

Terry:
(give Alisha eye contact) come and put your bag inside the room (lead Alisha to your room)

Narrator:
Quickly Alisha changed her clothes and entered the kitchen but she does not know how to cook well so she had to call the mother over the for assistance

SCENE 17

Inside the kitchen filled with lots of smoke

Alisha:
Mum I want to cook but I really don’t know where to start from

Alisha’s mum:
Oh okay, what ingredients are there?

Alisha:
Fresh and can tomatoes, mackerel, chicken, okro

Alisha’s mum:
you see if you were entering the kitchen more often all this wouldn’t have happened but listen here and taken note (Give her directions)

Alisha:
Thank you mum (drop the call)

Narrator:
As Alisha was busy putting some few things together, Terry came in

Terry:
Babe you could have just told mum you can’t cook to save yourself, now just look at the way you are struggling

Alisha:
You want me to tell her the truth and she will hate me the more or better still she will tell me to go back? Please let me try

Terry:
Then let me help you out okay

Narrator:
Terry’s mum comes inside the kitchen too

Terry’s mum:
Son can I have a word with you?

Terry:
Okay mother but can we do that after eating because I want to help Alisha

Terry’s mum:
Leave her alone to cook and besides is urgent

Terry:
Babe I will be back soon

Narrator:
They left her in the kitchen and within some few minutes later Anna came inside

Anna:
Alisha, will you need my help? Mama said I should check on you

Alisha:
Don’t worry. I have got this. Thank you

Anna:
Okay (Leave)

Narrator:
Anna came in again after sometime

Anna:
Alisha can you please hurry up, everyone is waiting. Uncle Ben is here too.

Alisha:
What? Who is that?

Anna:
That is Terry’s Uncle and he was called to come and have dinner with us

Alisha:
Okay, Terry never mentioned him to me. But you seem to know a lot about this family

Anna:
That’s because they are my next door neighbors and I grew up with Terry, we use to do virtually everything together (smiling) until he left and now you came into the picture too.

Alisha:
Sorry about that but I’m not stealing him away; he can still be your friend

Anna:
You don’t seem to get it, do you? I mean I loved him and even now (turn your back on Alisha)

Alisha:
And was he aware? Did you tell him?

Anna:
I was about to tell him when he had the appointment and left

Alisha:
Aww okay

Terry’s mum:
(Call Anna from the hall) Anna

Anna:
Yes Mum

Terry’s mum:
come here Anna (bring Anna close and whisper into her ear)

Anna goes back to the kitchen

Anna:
Before I forget, uncle ben likes spicy foods, so make sure the spices are plenty especially pepper.

Alisha:
Oh Okay, I will do just that

Anna:
make sure you do (then leave)

Narrator:
The food was done and served on the dining table and Alisha served everyone on their individual plates

Terry:
Wow the food looks delicious can’t wait to taste it

Alisha:
Relax let’s share the grace before

Terry’s mum:
(look surprise) you can do that for us dear (refer to Alisha)

Alisha:
(say a prayer) We can eat now

Terry:
Babe trust me the food is nice

Uncle Ben:
Yes it is, tomorrow is my birthday hope you will come and cook for us?

Alisha:
Sure Uncle

Terry:
Sorry Uncle I didn’t introduce you to Alisha my love, we intended doing that tomorrow morning but since you are here is fine. After eating I will do that. For now let’s concentrate.

Narrator:
They were all eating and suddenly

Uncle Ben:
(cough hard and wheeze as well)

Alisha:
Uncle, take some water (handing him a cup of water)

Terry’s Mum:
Bro Ben what is it? (talk to Alisha) I hope you didn’t poison my brother? Just pray that nothing happens if not hunh

Uncle Ben:
(Stretch your hand to get the water from Alisha) Oh no my chest (put your heard on the table)

Terry:
Let’s take him to the hospital

Terry’s mum:
You put him on the floor, sprinkle some water on him and press his chest.

Terry:
Why? Do you think that will work? (Putting uncle ben on the floor)

Terry’s mum:
Yes you try that. The spices in the food is too much and that’s why he had the chest pains

Terry:
He is allergic? When did it start?

Terry’s mum:
Like 3 months ago, sorry we didn’t tell you

Terry:
wow I feel like a stranger right now (still pressing uncle ben’s chest)

Terry’s mum:
But why would say that?

Terry:
A lot has changed and I have no idea about those changes

Uncle ben:
(cough slowly)

Alisha:
Thank God

Terry’s mum:
Let’s take him to the room to relax

Narrator:
They came together and helped Uncle Ben to the room, Terry was still angry so he went to the hall to take some rest, his mum and Anna joined him.
