THE PARTY.

HOW NICE OF HECTOR.

MM-HMM.

HEY, YOU KNOW WHAT?

I'M STARVED.

WHY DON'T WE GET SOMETHING TO

EAT?

SURE. YEAH.

UH, SHOULD WE WAIT FOR THEM?

WHY DON'T WE GIVE THEM SOME

SPACE?

YEAH.

Both:
COME ON.

WHAT DID THE POLICE SAY?

THEY JUST WANTED ME TO GE THE PEOPLE OFF THE BEACH -- RED

TIDE OR SOMETHING.

IT'S NOTHING, I'M SURE.

THEY'RE JUST OVERREACTING AGAIN.

I DON'T KNOW.

JODY AND CAROL GOT PRETTY

SPOOKED TODAY, ESPECIALLY THE

WAY THE COPS WERE ACTING.

THIS IS A SMALL TOWN.

PEOPLE GOT NOTHING BETTER TO DO

THAN MAKE UP STORIES -- UFOs,

COMMUNIST INVASION, MAD GORILLAS

ON THE LOOSE.

[ Southern accent ] I'LL PROTEC YOU, MA'AM.

OH, WHY DON'T YOU JUST WALK

ME BACK TO THE MOTEL ROOM AND I

CAN GET CLEANED UP?

HECTOR!

WHERE'S JOHN?

[ BREATHING HEAVILY ]

[ Normal voice ] UH, HE JUS LEFT WITH THE GIRLS.

THEY WENT TO DINNER, I THINK.

WHAT'S WRONG?

NOTHING.

I'VE JUST -- I'VE JUST GOT TO

GO, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE WE'RE ALL

RIGHT FOR THE TONIGHT.

TILLIS, WAIT.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

YOU HAVE TO TELL ME WHAT'S GOING

ON HERE.

[ SIGHS ] OKAY.

BUT YOU'RE NEVER GONNA BELIEVE

ME.

SO, THAT'S IT.

WE GOT MARRIED YOUNG.

FIVE YEARS LATER, WE WERE

COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PEOPLE.

SO, WE DECIDED TO GET A DIVORCE.

WE DON'T TALK MUCH, BUT I THINK

WE'RE STILL FRIENDS.

NO KNOCK-DOWN, DRAG-OU FIGHTS?

NOPE. ACTUALLY, IT WAS

DOWNRIGHT FRIENDLY.

WHAT ABOUT NOW?

GOT YOUR EYE ON ANYBODY?

UH...WELL, I DON'T KNOW.

I GUESS.

MAYBE.

SHE WOULDN'T HAPPEN TO BE IN

A ROCK BAND, WOULD SHE?

WHAT MAKES YOU SAY THAT?

BECAUSE THIS HAPPENS

EVERYWHERE WE GO.

YEAH.

EVERY TIME WE PLAY, EVERY BOY

IN THE CROWD FALLS FOR HER.

WELL, SHE'S CERTAINLY GO SOMETHING WHEN SHE'S ON STAGE.

THAT MUST BE ANNOYING FOR THE

TWO OF YOU.

[ Laughing ] YEAH.

YOU GET USED TO IT.

AND SHE'S PRETTY OBLIVIOUS

TO IT.

SHE WOULDN'T LET ANYONE GE TOO CLOSE, ANYWAY.

HECTOR CERTAINLY SEEMS TO

HAVE BROKEN THROUGH.

OH, DON'T BE SO SURE.

THAT'S NOT GOING ANYWHERE.

IT'S JUST THEODORA.

EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, A BOY

WILL CATCH HER ATTENTION, BU AFTER A WHILE, SHE'LL JUST PUSH

THEM AWAY.

WHY IS THAT?

SHE HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE A

COUPLE OF YEARS AGO.

YEAH. SWEET SUMMER ROMANCE

LEFT HER WITH A BAD CASE OF S--

BROKEN HEART.

YOU KNOW, FIRST LOVE AND ALL.

[ CHUCKLES ]

SHE MENTIONED THAT, BUT SHE

WOULDN'T TELL ME ANYTHING ABOU IT.

SO, WHAT'S THE STORY?

COME ON. SPIT IT OUT.

WHEN MY FATHER DIED, I DIDN' EVEN WANT THE GARAGE.

EVERY TIME I'D GO INSIDE THA PLACE, IT WAS JUST...

THE MECHANICS KEPT IT RUNNING.

I JUST STAYED AT HOME.

HOW LONG AGO WAS THAT?

FIVE SUMMERS AGO.

MY MOTHER WAS EVEN WORSE.

SHE COULDN'T EVEN GET OUT OF BED

AFTER THE FUNERAL.

I KNEW I HAD TO TAKE CARE OF

HER, SO THAT'S WHY I WENT BACK

TO WORK.

HOW IS SHE NOW?

SHE'S GREAT.

SHE'S DATING.

SHE GETS MORE DATES THAN ME.

[ CHUCKLES ]

[ SIGHS ]

LOOK, THIS IS GONNA SOUND LIKE

REALLY BAD ADVICE COMING FROM

ME, BUT YOU SEEM LIKE

SOMETHING'S HOLDING YOU BACK,

SOMETHING YOU CAN'T LET GO OF.

I DON'T KNOW. MAYBE I'M WRONG.

NO [CHUCKLES] YOU'RE RIGHT.

I KNOW WHAT I HAVE TO DO.

JUST ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING

ABOUT IT IS THE PROBLEM.

WELL, CAN YOU TELL ME ABOU IT?

I CAN TELL YOU THAT I HAVEN' HELD HANDS WITH A BOY IN FIVE

YEARS.

WELL, CLEARLY, YOU'RE WELL ON

YOUR WAY TO RECOVERY.

[ WAVES CRASHING ]

I-I CAN'T.

I'M SORRY. I --

WAIT. IT WAS JUST A KISS.

I-I KNOW WHAT IT WAS.

I-I-I JUST -- I CAN'T, NOT NOW.

YES, YOU CAN.

NO --

THEODORA, LOOK -- NOTHING

THAT HAPPENED IN THE PAS MATTERS NOW.

YOU DON'T SEEM TO UNDERSTAND.

IT'S ABOUT YOU AND ME HERE,

RIGHT NOW.

IT'S NOT THAT EASY.

LET ME HELP YOU, THEODORA.

PLEASE JUST LEAVE ME ALONE.

THEODORA, WAIT.

JUST -- NO, JUST STOP IT!

THEODORA, WAIT.

JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!

THEODORA!

[ INSECTS CHIRPING ]

BRAG, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU

DOING?

I AM GONNA END THIS THING

RIGHT HERE AND RIGHT NOW.

[ SIGHS ]

[ CRYING ]

HECTOR! HECTOR!

HEY, JOHN, CAN YOU TELL US

WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON HERE?

I DON'T THINK YOU'D BELIEVE

ME IF I TOLD YOU.

WE ALREADY DON'T BELIEVE THE

STORY THE COPS TOLD US ABOU THAT WOMAN.

YEAH, YEAH.

WE KNOW SHE DIDN'T DROWN.

HOW MUCH DID YOU SEE?

ENOUGH.

SHE WAS TORN APART, LIKE --

LIKE -- LIKE SHE WAS MANGLED BY

SOME ANIMAL.

ARE WE IN DANGER HERE, JOHN?

ALL RIGHT.

NOW, WE DON'T KNOW ANYTHING FOR

SURE, BUT WE THINK -- I THINK --

THAT THERE'S AN ANTEDILUVIAN

SIMIAN CREATURE ON THE LOOSE,

KILLING PEOPLE ON THE BEACHES.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

YOU MEAN LIKE SOME KIND OF

APE?

WELL, I THINK IT'S THE

SKUNK APE, A LINK BETWEEN MAN

AND APE THAT HAS EXISTED IN THE

EVERGLADES FOR MILLENNIA WITHOU BEING DISCOVERED.

LIKE BIGFOOT?

YES.

EVERGLADES? WAIT.

HOW WOULD SOMETHING LIKE THA GET UP HERE?

THAT HURRICANE THAT HI FLORIDA -- IT SWEPT A CHUNK OF

MANGROVE SWAMP INTO THE GULF

STREAM, AND IT DROPPED IT HERE

IN MERRIVILLE ISLAND, AND ALONG

WITH IT CAME THE SKUNK APE.

IT KILLED THAT WOMAN YOU SAW,

ALONG WITH A DEPUTY TWO NIGHTS

AGO.

TWO OTHER PEOPLE ARE MISSING, AS

WELL.

OH, MY GOD.

WHAT'S THAT IN THE ROAD?!

[ SIGHS ]

IT WAS HECTOR.

OH.

I'M SORRY.

IT JUST KIND OF SCARED ME THERE.

BUT HE'S NOT WITH THEODORA.

OH, SHE'S PROBABLY JUST A THE MOTEL, GETTING READY FOR THE

PARTY.

[ MID-TEMPO ROCK-'N'-ROLL MUSIC

PLAYS ]

I TOLD MYSELF THAT I WOULD

NEVER GO WITH ANOTHER GUY

'CAUSE AFTER THE LAST TIME,

ALL GIRLS AT SCHOOL WOULD MAKE

ME CRY:

AND WHEN I FINALLY CLEANED UP

MY BAD REPUTATION

HAD TO GO MEET BOBBY ON MY

SUMMER VACATION:

HE PULLED UP AT THE DRIVE-IN

IN A BRIGHT RED CHEVELLE

HE WOULDN'T LOOK RIGHT AT ME,

BUT HE LIKED ME, I COULD TELL

I TOLD MYSELF I WASN'T GONNA

GO VERY FAR:

NOW I WISH I'D NEVER EVEN

GOTTEN IN THE CAR

HE GAVE ME:

SYPH, SYPH, SYPH

SYPHILIS:

WHOA-OH-OH

SYPH, SYPH, SYPH

SYPHILIS:

WHOA-OH-OH, SYPHILIS

WHOA-OH-OH-OH-OHH

NOW BOBBY HASN'T EVEN CALLED

ME IN DAYS:

I WENT TO THE DOCTOR, BUT HE

DIDN'T MAKE ME PAY

WHEN I GOT THE PRESCRIPTION,

MY EYES FILLED UP WITH TEARS

'CAUSE I KNEW I'D BE TAKING

PENICILLIN FOR YEARS

HE GAVE ME:

SYPH, SYPH, SYPH

SYPHILIS:

WHOA-OH-OH

SYPH, SYPH, SYPH

SYPHILIS:

WHOA-OH-OH, SYPHILIS

WHOA-OH-OH-OH-OHH

[ SONG ENDS ]

THANKS FOR THE RIDE.

YEAH.

WE'D BETTER GET READY FOR THE

PARTY.

OH, YEAH.

I'LL TAKE YOU BACK TO THE

GARAGE WHEN YOU'RE READY.

I'M IN ROOM 27.

OKAY.

JOHN!

THEODORA'S NOT HERE.

SHE --

WHAT DO YOU MEAN?

SHE'S NOT HERE.

AND SHE'S NOT WITH HECTOR.

[ GASPS ] THE BEACH.

SHE'S WALKING ON THE BEACH!

GO INSIDE AND CALL THE

POLICE -- AND LOCK THAT DOOR.

GO.

UH...

THEODORA!

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?

WHAT?

COME ON. LET'S GO.

WE NEED TO GET OFF THE BEACH

RIGHT NOW.

I DON'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING.

I'M JUST TRYING TO HELP.

WHY CAN'T ANYONE GET I STRAIGHT?

I DON'T NEED ANYONE'S HELP.

I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU GE HURT, AND YOU JUST NEED TO GE OFF THE BEACH RIGHT NOW.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?

THERE IS A MONSTER ON THE

LOOSE, A FLORIDA SKUNK APE, AN

ANTEDILUVIAN SIMIAN CREATURE --
