SABINE:

A new recruit. Is Nigel done with his meeting?

The security guard looks down at the desk and back at Sabine.

SECURITY GUARD:

Well, I received nothing from Nigel about any new recruit so…

SABINE:

It was last minute, I already called in, Nigel is expecting us.

Sabine turns her head around her, to look at Clifford and back at the guard. The guard sighs.

SECURITY GUARD:

Well, if Nigel gave the ok with this, please. Proceed.

SABINE:

Thanks! Come on, Clifford!

Sabine and Clifford pass the security checkpoint. The guard and Clifford exchange looks. Clifford is worried.

SABINE:

Through here.

Sabine swipes a badge on a security terminal next to a wall. After a few seconds, an elevator dings and opens its doors, hidden in the light teal walls. Clifford gasps in surprise and follows Sabine inside the secret shaft. The doors close. Clifford speaks.

CLIFFORD:

Yeah, I don't think that guy really likes me.

SABINE:

It's because of the mud on your family's name. Do not worry, they will get used to it.

The elevator dings. Clifford and Sabine exit the elevator on a single glass bridge. Clifford spins and looks around. Shocked, he begins talking.

CLIFFORD:

Holy sh*t!

SABINE:

Clifford Reyes, welcome… to MOSIUS!

Sabine and Clifford enter a corridor after the glass bridge. Clifford follows Sabine through the underground corridors.

CLIFFORD:

MOSIUS? I’ve heard of you guys. But you were antagonized. You are allowed to enter here?

SABINE:

That’s because I work here, Clifford!

CLIFFORD:

What does MOSIUS even stand for?

SABINE:

That’s for Nigel to tell you. Here he is.

Sabine and Clifford advance to a fortified door. Sabine swipes her MOSIUS badge at the terminal on the wall, opening the doors, and revealing a room with a lot of computers on the walls, and a big holographic table in the middle, currently displaying the globe of Earth.

SABINE:

This is our control room. It’s where we monitor activities not just in Nurona but worldwide. It’s also a planning room.

NIGEL (32) enters the control room, wearing his armor, carrying his bow on his back and some documents in his hands, humming. Nigel enters the room, places the documents down on the table and looks at Sabine, Clifford standing behind her.

NIGEL:

Sabine! Did you bring the new recruit?

SABINE:

I did, sir. May I present our newest MOSIUS recruit!

Sabine moves out of the way, Nigel now making eye contact with Clifford. His brows frown.

NIGEL:

Is this the new recruit you’ve been telling me about?

SABINE:

Yes, this is Cli-

Nigel sounds and looks angry, at both Sabine and Clifford.

NIGEL:

Clifford Reyes! I heard of you! And your hell kind!

CLIFFORD:

Hell kind?

SABINE:

The Reyes Dynasty.

NIGEL:

Did your parents order you to come here to obtain information on us?

SABINE:

I can guarantee you Nigel-

NIGEL:

You better shut up! You are just as deep as him in this! What was the first rule?

Sabine looks at Clifford and sighs, then shifts her attention back at Nigel.

SABINE:

Do not bring any of the Reyes in the proximity of the base.

NIGEL:

And what have you done? You haven't even brought him in the proximity, you've just walked him in!

SABINE:

Nigel, if you'd just listen to what this kid has to say! You'd realize, he can help us!

CLIFFORD:

Can someone please tell me what the heck is going on?

Sabine and Nigel both turn towards Clifford, who has a confused look on his face. Sabine and Nigel turn back to each other.

SABINE:

Just give him a chance.

Nigel frowns.

NIGEL:

Fine! Hey kid, let's start this from the beginning!

CLIFFORD:

Alright.

NIGEL:

Do your parents know about us?

CLIFFORD:

I mean, everyone knows about MOSIUS. You and the Shadows' war is all over the TV. But you are depicted like the antagonists. But that cannot be right... No? Sabine, you just saved us. Those mercenaries wanted to kill us.

NIGEL:

I heard of the incident at Nurona High. And I also know about the enemy we are up against.

Nigel grabs a clipboard and circles a couple of times the holographic table.

NIGEL:

Your parents do not tolerate us. They think exactly what the media says! That we attack the city, while we protect it. Luckily, we do not have anyone saying that we are terrorists. But we got no supporters either.

CLIFFORD:

Okay, listen to me, Nigel! I am going to say this once. Me and my parents aren’t in the best relationship. Our conversations are usually just screaming at each other, how they want me to rule Nurona. Not even Callum escaped that fate, and he is not in agreement with this. Neither is Sarah. I always thought that MOSIUS was a terrorist group. My parents advised me and my siblings to not interfere with the war. But I just feel useless... you know.

NIGEL:

Yeah... I know exactly how you feel.

SABINE:

That isn’t all that happened. Clifford actually had a vision. Which, if he didn’t interfere, I would’ve been dead right now.

CLIFFORD:

Not just her. But the entirety of our class. I just had these headaches. Three of them, actually. The last one... I had a glimpse of an image. It was in that class, that day, a few moments later from the moment I had it. Like a minute or so. If we had stayed behind for longer than we did... we wouldn't be here right now...

NIGEL:

I believe you.

Nigel puts the clipboard down near his desk. Nigel approaches Clifford and extends his hand.

NIGEL:

We need help, Clifford. Against the people that attacked your school. But, you must promise that you will do whatever it takes to help us. Are you sure you’re willing to sacrifice everything?

CLIFFORD:

If it means defending Nurona, and the ones I love, I’ll do anything!

Clifford shakes Nigel's hand.

NIGEL:

Welcome to MOSIUS, Clifford Reyes!

Nigel lights up the control panel. A hologram of the MOSIUS’s logo appears alongside a map of Earth’s, also the logo of another organization, with the text underneath ‘The Shadows’.

NIGEL:

Okay! As you already know! We are MOSIUS, the Monitoring Organization of Surface Illegalities from the United States.

CLIFFORD:

That’s a hella long of a name.

NIGEL:

Which is why we stick with MOSIUS. It’s easier to pronounce and doesn’t bore anyone. I am the head of MOSIUS and this is Sabine, a highly valuable agent. Those who attacked the school today were the Shadows. They’ve appeared later than us, but have been creating havoc. We’ve been fighting and countering them for years. No sides have been defeated. Yet.

CLIFFORD:

And you think with my ability, you can stand a chance to break the balance.

NIGEL:

Exactly. Now Nurona was always a hotspot for trouble.

CLIFFORD:

Yeah I remember. The Clash for the West. When the Americans defeated the French army and conquered Nurona as their own.

SABINE:

And yet you're failing your history class.

Clifford turns his head around at Sabine.

CLIFFORD:

Cut me some slack will ya?

Clifford turns his head around at Nigel.

NIGEL:

Yeah, you are right Clifford. The Americans and French fought for this land. A lot of time. But ultimately, we've proclaimed it.
