inviting exploration and discovery amidst nature's bounty.
KOFI:
(out of breath) we can rest here. Can’t we? I need a little time. Time out you know. To assess things a bit.
Kofi tosses his bag beneath the shade of a nearby tree, finding a comfortable spot to rest amidst the tranquil
beauty of the mango and papaya orchard.
FOZ:
This farm looks nice.
(mischievous tone)
Oo and these mangoes are ripe and ready to be eaten!
With a precise reach, Foz plucks a ripe mango from one of the laden branches.
KOFI:
Ahem. That’s stealing.
FOZ:
Oh, come on! Stop being a goody two-shoes. You’re not hungry?
With a mischievous grin, Foz skilfully peels the ripe mango. She then playfully waves it in Kofi's face, tempting him.
KOFI:
Oh, oh I see what you’re doing. Temptation, with a little peer pressure.
(he chuckles)
FOZ Mm hmm!
Go on then.
With a grin, Kofi reaches up and plucks a ripe mango
from the nearby branches, mirroring Foz's actions.
KOFI:
See, I can steal too.
(tosses the mango in the air and catches it) But... I guess it’s not stealing when the mango is this ripe. (he looks at the mango) We’re... rescuing it.
KOFI (CONT'D)
(nervous laughter) From rotting away.
FOZ:
(sarcastically) Sure. Why not.
Sitting side by side under the shade of the tree, Kofi and
Foz enjoy the succulent mangoes.
KOFI:
Did you know that mangoes are called the king of fruit?
KOFI (CONT'D)
And this is proof.
(holds up the mango) That it deserves that title.
Mmm, it’s so good.
FOZ:
Yeah? I’m more of a watermelon person.
KOFI:
(he boos) Really?
FOZ:
Oh, come on, you’re the odd one. Watermelon practically runs in our DNA.
(laughs)
These mangoes are good though.
KOFI:
Shall we get going? You know.
Before we’re caught.
FOZ:
You're scared you'll get caught with a stolen mango?
KOFI:
Hey, you said it wasn't stealing. (worried) Please let's go.
FOZ Yes, in a minute.
From a distance, the urgent shout of a man pierces through
the peaceful atmosphere. They exchange concerned glances.
FARMER:
(yells)
Thieves! Thieves, get off my farm!
KOFI:
Get up, let’s go. Oh my God, we’re criminals!
As the voice draws nearer, the outline of a farmer gradually emerges from the horizon, his figure becoming clearer with each step.
FOZ:
I can see him. Ooh he’s got a spear! Let’s just go the opposite direction.
With quick thinking, they dart across the farm, seeking cover as the farmer approaches. They watch anxiously as the farmer surveys the area, his gaze lingering on the spot where they had been sitting moments before.
FARMER:
(he mutters to himself) Naughty Watoto!
EXT. - SMALL VILLAGE - MORNING
The mysterious large, muscular man and his rooster stealthily creep through the shadows, hiding behind trees as they secretly trail Foz and Kofi.
EXT. - LONG SANDED ROAD - MORNING
Along the dusty red road, children frolic joyfully with skipping ropes, their laughter echoing as they sing old
rhymes passed down through generations.
CHILDREN:
Little robin bird, with feathers bright,
Fell from his perch, a joyful sight.
I inquired of him, with curious plea,
"Oh, colourful friend, what did you see?"
"I journeyed far, to lands so wide, Not a banana leaf did I provide." Into the lake, they danced away,
Banana leaves, in watery play. Zuri's granny indulged, in ripe, sweet bites,
Beans joined the feast, through tranquil nights.
But as she slumbered, a tale so dear,
Her dreams disturbed, by sounds unclear.
For amidst the night, in melodic arts,
Her sleep disrupted, by playful (blows raspberry).
Children start laughing.
A little girl follows them, her small feet kicking up clouds of red sand as she races after them.
LITTLE GIRL Hi, where are you going?
And can I come?
FOZ:
No little girl. Stay here.
The little girl gazes up at Foz and Kofi with wide, curious eyes, her innocence shining through. Sensing her curiosity, Kofi crouches down to her level, offering a warm smile.
KOFI:
Sorry, we’re on a quest you see. To somewhere far, and maybe dangerous.
LITTLE GIRL Why is it dangerous?
KOFI:
Well…
With a subtle gesture, Foz signals to Kofi to remain silent.
FOZ:
It’s not dangerous, it’s just somewhere far. So, you can’t come, okay.
KOFI:
Yeah, go play with your friends.
LITTLE GIRL Okay.
EXT. - COLOURFUL GRASSLANDS - DAY
As Foz and Kofi venture onward, they reach a vantage point overlooking vast grasslands adorned with rolling hills tinged with hues of purple. A multitude of trees, each adorned with vibrant foliage of various colours.
FOZ:
Wow! This place looks magical. This must be it.
This is where we’ll find the tree.
KOFI You sure?
FOZ:
There are like a hundred trees here, it must be one of these.
(hesitates) But yes, I’m sure.
KOFI:
Alright, let’s start looking.
Navigating through the wooded area, they forage ahead, carefully treading through thorned bushes and dry plants that encroach upon their path.
A sharp screeching noise pierces the air, followed by a haunting moan, sending shivers down Foz and Kofi's spines. Startled, they glance back to see the thorns of the
surrounding plants elongating before their very eyes.
KOFI (CONT'D)
Is this bush moving towards us?
As they watch in alarm, the thorns of the surrounding plants continue to elongate, reaching out like menacing claws, their sharp points gleaming in the light.
KOFI (CONT'D)
(in shock) Oh my God it is.
With a sense of urgency fuelling their movements, they sprint away from the invading thorns, their hearts pounding with adrenaline as they strive to escape the menacing grasp of the rapidly growing foliage.
FOZ:
(screams)
It’s caught on my dress.
As the bushes press closer, the moans grow louder, a sudden breeze carries with it a whisper that echoes:
"What brings you here?"
Panic grips them as Kofi swiftly removes the thorns embedded in Foz's dress, their hearts racing with a mixture of fear and uncertainty.
KOFI Run!
Foz and Kofi run with all their might, their feet pounding against the earth as they flee from the ominous whispers and the encroaching thorns. Above them, a crow caws loudly.
FOZ:
What was that? Was it the crow? Because I sure as hell didn’t ask for that. The bush spoke to us, I think it was a warning.
