INT. MAYOR'S OFFICE - CONTINUOUS
O'Grady, THE MAYOR and a few AIDES watch the Ted O'Hara show on a TV.
THE MAYOR:
You aren't serious about
prosecuting that girl? Are you,
John?
JOHN:
Mr. Mayor, if we let this woman
walk without even an apology, it will send a signal that shooting...
THE MAYOR:
(Perturbed)
John, for God's sake, listen to me. I see an articulate, and attractive woman, who clearly and succinctly explained how she protected her life by shooting a murderer. We must salvage a little goodwill from this debacle. She has the people on her side. You and I will look like fools if you prosecute her.
JOHN:
I will look like a fool if I don't
prosecute.
THE MAYOR:
We have an election in a few
months. A hack you were and a hack you will again become if I don't support your election...and I won't if you don't drop this prosecution.
JOHN But Mr. Mayor...
THE MAYOR:
(raising his voice)
Don't Mr. Mayor me. You know the dirt I have on you. I will use it if you f*** me up with this prosecution.
JOHN:
(Resigned)

JOHN (CONT'D) Yes, Mr. Mayor. I will not
prosecute her and grant her complete exoneration.
INT. KAT'S HOTEL ROOM - MORNING
Kat is on
the phone with Tom.
KAT:
(Excited)
Tom, I just received a call from the District Attorney's office -- they are not going to prosecute me.
They gave me a complete exoneration.
TOM:
I know. It's all over the news
already.
KAT:
It is? They really want to wash
their hands of this case. Don't they?
TOM:
Your campaign worked. Great job.
TOM:
You have had a rough week. How
would you like to join me for a
weekend at my home in New
Hampshire?
KAT:
Tom, that would be perfect.
TOM:
I will pick you up tomorrow
morning at nine. See you then.
EXT. FRONT OF THE PLAZA HOTEL - MORNING
Tom parks his British Racing Green 1974 Jaguar XKE III in front of the Pulitzer Fountain. He walks up to the DOORMAN and hands him twenty dollars.

TOM:
Can you keep an eye on my car for
the next ten minutes?
The doorman stuffs the bill in his uniform.
DOORMAN:
Yes Sir!
INT. THE PLAZA HOTEL - CONTINUOUS
Tom walks into the Plaza eventually finding his way to Kat's room. He knocks on the door. Kat opens the door. She is wearing a pair of white linen slacks and a deep blue silk blouse. The outfit tailored to perfectly fit her figure.
KAT:
Wipe that look off your face,
Opie, and help me with the luggage.
Tom carries her two larger bags; Kat totes her small carry- on. She spoke as they walked to the elevator.
KAT (CONT'D)
Tom, O'Hara offered me a job as
assistant producer with a chance to do some on-air presentations.

INT. TOM'S HOME - DAY
Tom and Kat take her luggage to the guest room.
TOM:
Let me give you a warning, my
parents regard cocktail hour quite seriously. They dress for the occasion – not quite black tie, but what I call country urbane. I'll be wearing the uniform.
KAT:
The uniform?
TOM:
Blue Blazer, khaki pants, blue
button down shirt and tie.
KAT ST. JOHN
I know exactly what to wear.
INT. TOM'S LIVING ROOM - EARLY EVENING
Tom is dressed for dinner reading a magazine when Kat gracefully steps down the stairway. She is wearing a sexy little black dress, a string of pearls and medium-healed pumps that bring her closer to Tom's height. Tom stands. Kat completes her entrance by walking up to Tom, pirouettes then gives him a light kiss on his cheek and steps back.
KAT:
Do you like it?
TOM:
Unbelievable! I will need to
protect you from my father. He will fall madly in love with you.
KAT:
Well, I hope he does!
EXT. A PATH THROUGH GARDENS - EVENING
TOM AND KAT walk arm in arm through the gardens. They approach the door to Tom's parents house. Tom knocks on the door and Dr. Ford answers.

John.

DR. FORD (CONT'D) You have become a heroine here
after we saw you on television and heard Tom's personal accounts.
KAT:
Thank you, Dr. Ford, that's kind
of you to say but please call me Kat.
DR. FORD
O.K., Kat. I must say that you are
even prettier in person than you were on the O'Hara show.
TOM:
(interjecting)
See Kat, I told you he would fall
in love with you
DR. FORD
I confess. Can you blame me? Our
other guests will be here in a half hour but we would like have you to ourselves for a while. Please come in and meet Mrs. Ford. What are you drinking?
EXT. PATH
Tom and Kat walk arm and arm back after dinner.
KAT:
Thank you Tom, I really enjoyed
evening. I love your parents.
TOM:
You certainly were a hit with
them.
A moment of silence ensue between the two after which Tom looks at Kat. They both appear uneasy.
TOM:
Kat, let's call it an evening and
have a good night's sleep. I'm up by seven and there's always work for me to do -- we'll have breakfast, then plan the day.
Kat smiled, walked over to Tom to kiss him on the cheek.
TO TOM'S HOUSE - NIGHT
51.
KAT:
See you in the morning, Tom.
INT. TOM'S BEDROOM - MORNING
Tom wakes up and looks at the clock. It reads 9:10 A.M. He changes into a pair of Levis, a medium weight L.L. Bean flannel shirt, and a pair of lightweight Timberland hiking boots.
KITCHEN:
Kat is busy at the stove cooking breakfast. Tom walks in.
KAT:
(pretending anger)
At seven I walked out to the deck and heard no power tools. No Tom Ford working. At eight never would I have imagined that you were still asleep. I watched the birds for a while and tried a few birdcalls, but no Tom. Mr. Up at Seven should change his name to Mr. Up at Nine.
TOM:
(laughing)
You won't believe me, but this is the latest I've slept in years.
KAT:
I don't believe it. You suffered a
severe credibility crisis this morning. It would take days of pravda before I can trust you again. Well, maybe those scotches you had with your father and the guests had some effect.
(a beat)
How do you like your eggs?
TOM Over easy, please.
Tom and Kat are having breakfast when the phone rings. Tom picks up the phone.
DR. FORD
Let's meet at the 100-yard range
at noon.
