96 Minutes Page #8

Synopsis: Inspired by true events, 96 minutes is the story of four young lives slammed together in one shocking moment. The events of the night in inner city Atlanta, Georgia, unfold in real time as we inter-cut between a carjacking and the beginning of that day, following four separate kids - who they are, where they come from, and the seemingly innocuous decisions that lead them towards a life changing conclusion. With no adults to guide them, they're left on their own to try to survive not only this night, but the complex reality of the world they live in.

00:
39:19,335 -- 00:39:21,014

- gives you respect, J.J.?

- Yeah.

763

00:
39:21,079 -- 00:39:22,871

This piece gives me power,

764

00:
39:22,935 -- 00:39:24,566

and power gets me respect.

765

00:
39:24,631 -- 00:39:26,854

Fear and respect are two

different things, brother.

766

00:
39:28,039 -- 00:39:29,512

Let me learn you

something, n*gger.

767

00:
39:29,576 -- 00:39:32,726

You may think you something

special, but you ain't sh*t.

768

00:
39:32,790 -- 00:39:33,942

In the eyes of the world,

769

00:
39:34,006 -- 00:39:35,685

there ain't no difference

between you and me.

770

00:
39:35,751 -- 00:39:37,750

So no matter what you do,

771

00:
39:37,815 -- 00:39:38,918

they ain't gonna

see you as nothin'

772

00:
39:38,983 -- 00:39:41,767

but a gangbanger,

homeboy. Believe that.

773

00:
39:41,831 -- 00:39:44,084

Hey, y'all got

some beers around here?

774

00:
39:44,149 -- 00:39:46,373

Somebody get this p*ssy-ass

schoolboy a beer.

775

00:
39:52,438 -- 00:39:54,037

Hey, where Kevin off to?

776

00:
39:56,566 -- 00:39:58,468

Where you got him going, J.J.?

777

00:
39:58,693 -- 00:40:00,980

Told him to go steal

his daddy's ride.

778

00:
40:01,045 -- 00:40:03,381

You know that's not

his daddy. Come on, man.

779

00:
40:03,383 -- 00:40:04,452

Whatever.

780

00:
40:04,517 -- 00:40:06,229

So, what? Y'all

letting him in now?

781

00:
40:06,294 -- 00:40:07,524

He's gotta do

his initiation, bro.

782

00:
40:07,589 -- 00:40:09,301

J.J., I thought

we talked about this.

783

00:
40:09,365 -- 00:40:10,452

He's too young.

784

00:
40:10,518 -- 00:40:11,285

Man, he's 16.

785

00:
40:11,349 -- 00:40:13,700

Yeah, but he's not like us.

786

00:
40:13,765 -- 00:40:15,716

Oh, now you and me

alike in some way.

787

00:
40:15,780 -- 00:40:18,004

- I just thought we had a deal man.

- F*** your deal, man.

788

00:
40:18,069 -- 00:40:21,412

His big cousin wasn't

here to protect him.

789

00:
40:21,477 -- 00:40:23,188

He was off at nursery school,

790

00:
40:23,252 -- 00:40:24,772

and here we were.

791

00:
40:27,332 -- 00:40:28,804

Hey, let me tear up

that black, n*gger.

792

00:
40:28,869 -- 00:40:31,044

Hey, didn't you

smoke a cigarette?

793

00:
40:31,108 -- 00:40:32,068

Walking cancer-ass n*gger.

794

00:
40:32,133 -- 00:40:33,987

F*** you.

795

00:
40:34,053 -- 00:40:35,715

Now will you get me a beer?

796

00:
40:35,781 -- 00:40:37,300

No, man.

797

00:
40:46,165 -- 00:40:48,898

You know, Dre,

I'm getting hungry.

798

00:
40:49,045 -- 00:40:49,938

What?

799

00:
40:50,004 -- 00:40:51,122

I'm hungry.

800

00:
40:51,188 -- 00:40:53,650

How the f*** are you thinking

about food right now?

801

00:
40:53,878 -- 00:40:55,667

I don't know. I'm just hungry.

802

00:
40:55,732 -- 00:40:59,201

Okay, man, I'm looking for a way for

us to get the f*** out of here.

803

00:
40:59,267 -- 00:41:02,211

I told you

to go left back there.

804

00:
41:02,275 -- 00:41:03,699

You know, Dre, seriously,

let's find a place.

805

00:
41:03,764 -- 00:41:05,395

What the f***

are you talking about?

806

00:
41:05,460 -- 00:41:07,602

I'll get directions.

807

00:
41:07,668 -- 00:41:09,074

I'll be in and out real quick.

808

00:
41:09,139 -- 00:41:11,122

I'll just get me a

Slushee or something.

809

00:
41:11,187 -- 00:41:11,954

A Slushee?

810

00:
41:12,018 -- 00:41:14,322

Are you out of

your f***ing mind?

811

00:
41:14,387 -- 00:41:15,282

That's so nasty.

812

00:
41:15,347 -- 00:41:18,545

All right, maybe a corn dog.

813

00:
41:18,610 -- 00:41:20,691

Craving a corn dog

I could actually understand.

814

00:
41:20,756 -- 00:41:23,282

At least it's got some

food value or something.

815

00:
41:23,347 -- 00:41:25,170

What we gotta find's

a place we know.

816

00:
41:25,202 -- 00:41:26,193

Yo, pull in up there.

817

00:
41:26,258 -- 00:41:27,361

We're not stopping, Kevin.

818

00:
41:27,426 -- 00:41:30,273

You don't know where

the f*** we are.

819

00:
41:30,339 -- 00:41:31,712

I'll get directions.

820

00:
41:31,777 -- 00:41:33,729

Okay, man, if I pull in there,

821

00:
41:33,794 -- 00:41:36,032

you gotta be in and out.

That's it,

822

00:
41:36,097 -- 00:41:37,154

and just get directions.

823

00:
41:37,218 -- 00:41:38,144

All right.

824

00:
41:38,209 -- 00:41:39,872

I'm f***ing serious, Kevin.

825

00:
41:39,937 -- 00:41:41,537

I heard you.

826

00:
41:41,601 -- 00:41:42,721

All right.

827

00:
41:47,570 -- 00:41:50,928

Hey, yo, pull up closer so I

don't have to walk so far.

828

00:
41:50,993 -- 00:41:52,640

Go get directions,

okay, and hurry up.

829

00:
41:54,801 -- 00:41:56,368

Hey, you want something?

830

00:
41:56,433 -- 00:41:58,128

Just go. Go.

831

00:
42:28,209 -- 00:42:29,551

You okay?

832

00:
42:35,103 -- 00:42:37,150

You don't have to do this.

833

00:
42:38,527 -- 00:42:41,182

You can make this stop.

834

00:
42:41,247 -- 00:42:42,205

Nah, I can't.

835

00:
42:42,270 -- 00:42:45,119

Yes, you can.

836

00:
42:45,183 -- 00:42:47,774

You can. You can just...

837

00:
42:47,839 -- 00:42:50,397

just let me take her

to a hospital.

838

00:
42:50,462 -- 00:42:51,678

Please.

839

00:
42:54,015 -- 00:42:55,807

Look, it's a situation,

840

00:
42:55,871 -- 00:42:58,638

but I'm gonna handle it.

841

00:
43:01,231 -- 00:43:03,804

You guys are gonna

be okay. Just...

842

00:
43:03,870 -- 00:43:05,118

Take care of her, okay?

843

00:
43:05,182 -- 00:43:07,917

I can handle it. It'll be fine.

844

00:
43:07,982 -- 00:43:10,813

He looks up to you.

845

00:
43:13,614 -- 00:43:15,660

I swear to God

if you just let us go,

846

00:
43:15,725 -- 00:43:18,526

I won't say anything. You

won't get caught. I promise.

847

00:
43:20,846 -- 00:43:22,909

Yeah, why would you do that?

848

00:
43:23,070 -- 00:43:25,085

Because...

849

00:
43:25,198 -- 00:43:27,757

I think you got

caught in something

850

00:
43:27,821 -- 00:43:30,029

that you don't know

how to get out of,

851

00:
43:30,094 -- 00:43:33,547

and I think you're just

trying to save your friend.

852

00:
43:34,797 -- 00:43:37,147

And I'm just trying

to save mine.

853

00:
43:38,814 -- 00:43:40,605

Please don't let her die.

854

00:
43:40,670 -- 00:43:42,733

Please don't let her die.

855

00:
43:48,108 -- 00:43:50,028

You have some I.D., son?

856

00:
43:54,493 -- 00:43:58,188

Well, you're gonna need some I.D.

To buy alcohol.

857

00:
43:58,253 -- 00:43:59,660

I'm 21.

858

00:
43:59,724 -- 00:44:00,843

Yeah, well,

859

00:
44:00,908 -- 00:44:03,083

I'm still gonna need

to see some I.D.

860

00:
44:03,148 -- 00:44:04,539

What are you laughing at?

861

00:
44:05,339 -- 00:44:08,075

Do you want the rest

of the items?

862

00:
44:08,139 -- 00:44:09,324

Son...

863

00:
44:09,549 -- 00:44:11,036

I'm not your son.

864

00:
44:12,316 -- 00:44:14,395

Just shut up.

Shut the... get out, son.

865

00:
44:14,460 -- 00:44:17,145

Son, I can't sell you

beer without proper I.D.

866

00:
44:17,275 -- 00:44:19,547
